so i was doing a little research on bonnaroo in the news and i read an article saying that the entire manchester police and 90+ state troopers will be working the gates and security at bonnaroo................ if any of you veteran rooer's could tell me.....who works security at the gates? are there dogs sniffing cars? or volunters searching vehicles? i have heard and read its random, to who gets the super search. idont plan to bring anything i wouldnt want them to find but i am HEAVILY tattooed and dont want a small time cop having his fun tearing apart a vehicle i took so long to properly and strategically pack just because i fit into a profile as someone who has something to hide any feed back would be appreciated. also I heard if coming in a caravan atleast one of the vehicles will be randomly picked is this true?
I think they strip search every person as they come in. Just kidding. Last year they asked us at the gate if we had illegal drugs or anything glass. Thats all

I think its mostly just volunteers who search the vehicles, so its just as likely you get the super search as anyone else. I wouldn't worry about it, I'd be more worried about the drive there.
last year we were "randomly" set aside and searched by the nice man in the DEA jacket and his doggie. i think it was profiling though because the dude i rolled down with was black.
It is hit or miss, I've gone years where I did'nt get serched but then some years they ripped apart my car. But it is just volunteers the cops do traffic, just worry about getting down there.

I wouldnt worry about dogs at the gates at all.... no one would stand for that man, they did that study saying the city got how much money from the people of 'roo in 2005?? Going there be a bit more careful and watch that video....
edit; Although that DEA stuff is scary, did you tell him you did not consent to a search? although a dog walking around is not technically a search...

l"ast year we were "randomly" set aside and searched by the nice man in the DEA jacket and his doggie. i"
Samething happened to me and all of the other RV's in my surrounding area. I don't think they profiled me I have a fairly new SUV, clean cut looking and had only female passengers wit me....I think it's totally random......Good luck
We got a pretty thorough search on the way in last year, but they were pretty much just looking for glass (which we had plenty of). There was a local cop there but he was way cooler than the powertripping Bonnaroo staff guy. They said they don't care about small personal stashes, and I can say for sure that at least that particular cop didn't care.

Last year was the first time (in 3 years) that we were searched. I was blatantly honest with my Roo volunteers. I told them that I had absolutely nothing on me but, I would be "shopping" as soon as my tent was set up. They were very cool and gave us the least thorough search imaginable. Just be cool and honest with them and they will be cool with them. They are just volunteers!
I must add- Hilari and I are pretty square-looking and we abstained from EVERTHING while in line. They don't want to bust you! Don't make them! It's that simple!
Me and 8 of my buddy's went down with 3 cars last year, our car held EVERYTHING and our car got randomly selected for the HEADY SEARCH (DEA)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But thank god we are really good packers. ;D
I've NEVER been worried about the search before. I"ve been twice and wasn't searched at all. Granted I've never brought anything I shouldn't have before. This year I was planning to bring something that the DEA wouldn't appreciate in my RV and, frankly, this thread has me all freaked out.
Can those of you who got the "heady" search (DEA) of your RV answer me a question?
Was it obvious that you were in the "search line" or did they just randomly go between lines searching different vehicles? Because it seems like if you have any advance warning then you could easily just flush the offending materials (if you are in an RV).
we won't be rolling witih more than personal amounts for ziggy marley, but now i'm really worried.
I had an RV last year and we came off the main exit, down the little frontage road, and into the site. They sent all RVs off to the right lane at the main gate and we got searched by multiple sheriffs. I think we were randomly searched.
I posted this elsewhere, but last year I went to roo in an RV and before we were sent to the lane where the RV's were we were pulled over by the volunteers and cops for a search. myself and my 6 male companions were made to step out of the vehicle while they tore our RV apart. we didn't have anything on us last year so it was chill regardless, but the cop was on a power trip. I had just woken up when we got there and when I stepped out into the morning air I was chilly and shivering. after they made us empty our pockets the cop was looking at me and said I looked nervous. a real dou.che. but since we didn't have anything I don't know what the consequenes would've been had we. no dogs, or anything that rough.

What about normal vehicles that they search? Did they make you get out and check through out the entire car? Or do they just play with the luggage to check stuff out
RV's go to their own line. They do get serched harder but people don't need too freak out, they are looking for people with weight not your average kid. the last 5 years the worst thing that happened to me was some beers were taken away(they were in glass). So it's not that bad.

Here's some karma for saying Crapburger, it made me smile. ;D

does anyone have a suggestion for the best place to stash a few bottles of glass? My boyfriend's favorite beer only comes in glass, and we plan on being very respectful and properly dispose of the waste, so I was thinking of hiding the few bottles int the bag with the tent and all it's supplies, bc I figured they wouldn't take out our tent and eveyrthing. Any opinions would be great!

keep them in the bottom of your cooler pour ice on top of them then put your water and soda on top, roo security told me I should have done that when they took mind away.

dude, these threads always have me freaked out, but as far as i can tell as long as your not bringing lbs or tanks to supply large amounts of people with, no one will give a damn... just be smart.... these threads are sort of pointless given the fact that its completely random... ive read things like "dont paint your car it gives the wrong impression" or "speeding will surely get you caught" or "dogs will search you" well our friends went last year in a completely painted car, speeding the whole way, with stuff on them and got no more than a "do you have anything" question at the gate.... i still dont recommend speeding, i wont be, but mostly no ones going to bust your balls if your straight with them and nice.... there just trying to "weed" out the total losers who will ruin the experience for everyone else anyway...
As your attorney I advise you to drive at top speed and it'll be a Goddamn miracle if we get there before you turn into some kind of wild animal. Are you ready for that? Checking into a Las Vegas hotel under a phony name with the intent to commit capital fraud with a head full of acid? I certainly hope so...
we went on 2005 and the cute bonnaroo hippie kids asked us if we had any weapons or glass... we said no and they painted a smiley face on our car and let us through.... while this car in the lane next to us was getting ripped apart by these black security guards... i guess we just picked the right line... i dunno
