Just curious i'm staying at the KOA this year and was wondering how the bag check is entering by the Which stage? Also can you walk or do you have to take a shuttle?

The bag check at the back entrance where the shuttles drop you off is pretty damn slack, of course i would suggest feeling out the first time in. Two kids that were scanning the wrist bands on the first day when the shuttle went on site had us laughing damn hard. They said they had to check everyones bags for any illegal substances or contraband, and then started laughing and said fuck that, we don't give a shit what you bring in, go in and party hard. They do a quick scan of everyones wristbands in the shuttle when you pull through the gate to the back parking lot. The shuttle only takes a few minutes and there are several going back and forth so you never have to wait for more than few minutes, but your can walk it in probably 15 mins. Don't quote me on that, I only walked once last year and i don't have the best memory of it if you get what I'm saying....

We’ve stayed in a Tent site at the KOA for the past three years and have our spot reserved for 2016!
Here are the details on the KOA pricing (including Tennessee’s 9.75% tax)
1 Tent Site, 2 People, 1 Car = $1,070.06
Each additional person = $296.33
Each additional car = $137.19
As stated earlier, there’s no line to get into Centeroo and the bag search is pretty cursory.
Bonnaroo has advised that KOA campers are “not allowed” to walk to Centeroo. This is strictly for our safety, because the road between the KOA and Centeroo is narrow and handles a lot of facilities traffic. Besides, an air-conditioned van beats a half-mile dusty/muddy walk every time!

My husband and I have stayed at KOA every year since 2011. In fact, we were the only tent in overflow that first year. We had no hookups but it was so nice (and still is!) to have real bathrooms, showers, shade and a pool. We've since gratuated first to a real site with hookups and then to a small camper. We have walked the distance to and from Centeroo many times but the traffic does get crazy at times. The bag check is very lax and usually slackens even more as the weekend progreses. Of course, my contrband is limited to a water bottle of wine and/or a few beers ha ha. I'm old(er), too, and I appreciate the small luxuries KOA camping provides. You will have a blast!
I'm a volunteer at Bonnaroo and this year I'm working all my hours pre-fest. I splurged and got a Kamper Kabin (hooked on phonix worked for me!) to stay in the days before the festival and it is reasonable--about $60 a night, with AC! But that's Sunday through Wednesday before I move over to the Farm, after that I'm sure it's a lot more expensive.
One LiveNation note: Barb & Jerry were informed on Wednesday morning that the shuttle service they had used for the past 5 years (and had planned to use this year) did not have a level of insurance adequate enough to be allowed onto the farm. They had to totally scramble at the last minute to find somebody, and pay through the nose for a company that lived up to the LiveNation standards. This is pure speculation, but I wouldn't be surprised if the service they ended up with came "recommended" by LiveNation.
How was the shuttle service from KOA this year? We've been staying in VIP RV but it's pretty lame. Wanto to stay with power water and sewer next year.
professional & reliable. The vast majority of the time there was one parked at both ends. When one got some passengers, they would switch . . . so the only time there was ever a wait would be the two or three minutes they were in transit.

How much do they clamp down on smoking (green) at KOA? I've never been hassled when camping inside Bonnaroo, but I know the crowd is a little older here.
The KOA shuttles run 24 hours. I had no problems at all getting back after the Superjam. (OK - that's not really "late night" for Bonnaroo time, but it seemed late to me!)

Personally, I would not light up at the KOA. It is not Centeroo by a longshot. You never know who's going to cruise past your tent. On Saturday, the fireworks were staged in the field next to the KOA, and there was quite a parade of Manchester's finest civil servants streaming past our tent site.
rumbleseat is correct on the shuttles. They start when Centeroo opens on Thursday and do not stop until Sunday night. If you want to go in to Centeroo at 7:30 am, a shuttle will be ready to take you. If you're just coming back from Centeroo at 7:30 am, a shuttle wiil be ready to take you.
rumbleseat is a little paranoid on the lighting up. I have never been shy about it, nor have any of my neighbors. It is true you never know when a golf cart will drive by with a yellow-shirted KOA dude or lady on it, but they are always on a mission. They have far more important things going on and won't give you a second look. I wasn't there when the fireworks were being launched, so I guess I missed out. In six years of staying there, I have never seen any law enforcement officers on KOA property.

I've had this debate of KOA for almost a decade. You guys make it sound so appealing, it is such a great alternative to VIP and perhaps the better move. If I could convince sparklefart to do a KOA GA year, I'd do it.

You would not regret it. You do give up access to the VIP restrooms & viewing areas in Centeroo, but you will still feel like you're getting more VIP treatment than you ever did in VIP. If nothing else, being able to enter & leave Centeroo via the back wall makes it worth every penny. No lines, no hassles. All you hear, over & over, is "KOA? You're good." It's fun to get that level of deference while wearing a GA band.
I'm looking at getting one of the tent sites that have the canopy already on them. Looks like it has a ceiling fan and lights too!
Don't mean to bring you down, but I'm pretty sure there is only one of those. Anyone can rent it the rest of the year, but during Bonnaroo it's where the shuttle drivers get to call home. (At least it used to be. They installed that a few years ago specifically for the shuttle drivers' comfort because that's the kind of folks they are . . . but it was for the crew they weren't allowed to use this year. There was someone camped there last weekend, but not sure if it was the new shuttle crew or not.)

Yes, the RV sites have sewer hookups. Some have 50 amp electric, some only 30 amp. Tent sites all have 15 amp electric and there are at least two tent sites that have water as well. The site pictured above is actually a tent site with water. While it's convenient to have full hookups, we don't really need sewer with our little Scamp camper (no bathroom, just a sink), and it saves us a little bit to get the tent site instead of an RV site. We just dump the grey water Monday morning before we leave.
It sells out quickly. Call now to get on the list for next year. They keep their books separate from year to year, so they won't take any 2017 Bonnaroo reservations in 2016 . . . but on New Year's Day (seriously) they will start calling everyone who stayed there this year to see if they want their spot again (once you've stayed there, you get first dibs on the same site the following year.) Then they'll start working through the list. If the answer is yes when they call, payment is in full, nonrefundable, right then & there. If the answer is no, they will call the next person on the list. Generally they are full by the time the lineup drops.
So really if you have any inkling you may want to do this, even a 1% chance that you might, then the sooner you call and get on the list, the better. You're not committing to anything, just getting in line. You can always step out of line in January with no hard feelings if you decide at that time that you don't want to do it.
