unless i get a pimp parking spot, i'm thinking about going tent only for '08. how was '07? did you have plenty of room or was it much more crowded than '06. is that where camp inforoo was? gimmie, gimmie details please!

it was WAYYY more crowded in 07 than in 06 cuz they made tent only (and correct me someone if im wrong) half the size than the year before.. others will be able to help you with more info ;D
Tent only was jam packed than other years, but I wouldn't regret camping there just because it is a skip and a hop from Ceteroo.Hopefully they will restore the original size of the camping area or even better yet makie it larger.
Well, the earlier the better. If you get in on Wednesday you can snag a spot, but rhey let it a very small amont in. Best shot is early Thursday morning. Just beware though that people will start being pushy if they see you holding spots for a long amount of time if the camp is filling up quickly.

I can't comment on how crowded it was compared to previous years cuz i always took an rv b4. But, i was in tent only last year and it wasn't crowded in my area. I think I was at the corner of 1st and 1st. There was even a huge area that didn't fill up until late friday night. Even then there was still spots all weekend. I had room for two tents, a screen room, and a poop/shower tent.
Last year I rode the greyhound in from Nashville airport, walked from the greyhound station to the bushy branch entrance, and they let us in around 6pm Wednesday. We were being directed to BFE but as we passed Tent Only which was fenced off, a mountie stopped us(a group of about 20-25 who obviously didn't come in cars) and said we could just go ahead into TO. I got myself all set up and left to hit the bathroom and when I got back they had closed the gate and were no longer letting people in, as some of the folks from BFE who drove in were trying to walk back to TO to set up. The gate guy said they only let the folks in who had obviously walked into roo, and weren't letting anyone else set up camps until thursday morning. so, its a gamble trying to get in wednesday night, I got lucky.
Edit to add: After setting up I went to a location which will not be named, and upon my return I went to visit Meg and Boz in BFE.. I left a while later to return to my tent, and the guards wouldnt let me out of BFE to go back to TO.. slept on my camelbak until 7:30am or so and by the time I got to tent only there were people everywhere setting up... Get there early if you want a good spot is my advice!

I think VIP will be bigger this year so camp only will be way back, it was fun years before but I didn't want to drag all my stuff over last year but it looked packed.
looking at my 07 site map, it doesn't look TOO small. i remember walking passed it (2wice a day) and some areas looked full and some not so much. in camp biff tannen toward 1st ave, it didn't look too bad. is my assumption correct?

I can't talk about years past, but last year they had people packed in, but it wasn't over crowded by any means. I don't believe we had problems fitting everyone in camp inforoo, although some people couldn't find it.
I think it was about a week after this past Roo, a thread came up on here about campsite theft, and it seemed like the majority of it happened to people in TO. Did any of you have any problems with this?

I had zero problems. Then again, I didn't bring a whole lot with me.

I had no problems with tent theft, and we were right off the road.
I love tent only. In '06, we were going to do tent only, but some crazy stuff happened. This year, it was so nice to be 2 minutes from centeroo. Being able to walk back to camp to get food instead of buying it was nice. We got there Wednesday night, and on Thursday morning at about 6:30 we got in line to wait for them to open the tent only section. Our wagon broke, and we didn't have that big of one. Some people on the way saw us struggling with moving everything, and offered their hands in help. It was great.
Y'know, this year I didn't use a car at all. Not to keep stuff in, change in, sleep in, use ac, nothing. So I'm thinking of doing it... there would be times during Bonnarroo (and I'm sure others here know what I mean) when you don't really wanna walk around in the blistering heat for 30 minutes to go stand in it and watch some shows, only to walk back for another 30 minutes, rest and clean up for the night and walk back. It's a bit much... So I'm seriously considering it.
One question I had, though, that could very highly influence my decision: Can you set up canopies in tent only? That was a great reason why roo last year was so much more comfortable for me... and that may not be worth giving up!

yes, you can pretty much set up whatever you want in tent only.

On that note. Mid day around Thursday we saw this group of people putting together a wooden frame for like a hang out space. They made it huge, and when I went in to check it out on Friday they had a couple of camping stoves and a nice eating/ chill out place. Other people did compounds where they would put their tents in a circle, throw a tarp over their tents, then have like an easy-up for their cooking/ hang out area.

I car camped too because I wanted some of my creature comforts. The jeep has a rack which flips over to form a canopy which I use for a shower. I also planned on saving money ant eating every meal at the camp. I found that it was so far to walk back to the camp tha tI ended up eating in Centeroo more often than I had planned. I spent far less time at camp that I planned so this year I plan on trying tent only and seeing how it goes. After all the Inforoo brunch was pretty cool so the rest of the time should be pretty good too.
You should be able to find space in tent only, if you have a large group who wants to camp together (e.g. Camp Inforoo) that's when you might have probs. I've camped in TO for the past 4 yrs, EVERY year it has been smaller than the year before, so who knows this year. Last year was the first year I've personally met people who had stuff filched from TO, generally small/easily carried stuff, phones, wallets, backpacks, etc. Seemed to be mostly on Sun night. So, leave important stuff in your car/carry it with you.

Last year was my first 'roo and we lugged our stuff into TO and were uber-grateful. We found Camp Inforoo easily, but they didn't have enough room for us. But we easily found space a few yards away. Thankfully, we met some fantastic people and pulled our resources and had a vitural tent palace. If we go this year (I hope!), then we'll defintely do the same. Next time, though, we gotta get there earlier and MUST bring a trolley or cart of some kind. Man, those trips to and from the car were brutal!
There are a few places where we're hoping to end up this year, and BFE is DEF not one of them. I'd lug 100 lbs on my back just to get to TO if it meant that we weren't walking 45 min to Centeroo each day!

yes I have already been planning my pack this year for Tent Only and have eliminated about 20 lbs of stuff I really do not need, so this should help with the trip from the car.

i always camp tent only and yes last year some people were looted but just carry the stuff you really care about in your backpack with you 24 hours and you'll be fine. i don't bring anything with me that can't be replaced.
