Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Jen, the Chacos sandals (Unaweep) I have are amazingly supportive and comfortable. Ugly as hell, though. I'm seriously considering the flip flops with the waffle-y looking bottom. Wish I could talk to someone who's worn them for prolonged periods. With my back surgery last year, I need to be very mindful of what's on my feet this year (not to mention I had hideous swollen ankles and feet after a poor but fashionable footwear choice at Jazz Fest this year).
So how many of you ladies are going to the brunch? I know there is a thread for it, but I was curious who of you I may see there...
And I'm so considering socks with crocs.. I know it is like socks with sandals, but they have those little tiny no show socks that would help if I end up blistered... I've always been surprised how much socks help blisters.. I used to get bad blisters with zoomers... Those tiny blue flipperish things people use swimming laps.. And socks would make it to where I could complete my swim. So my question is would you find it terribly strange if you saw someone's socks peak out just barely if at all with lady crocs? Normally I wouldn't even consider the combo, but I want my feet comfy.
I'm going to brunch! I was actually thinking we should post pics of ourselves so we might recognize each other at brunch. I know some of us are in our avi's, but they're small.
I'm bringing no show socks for my sanuks. Even my awesome sanuks give me a blister on the top of my little toe, and moleskin won't stay on if my feet sweat. I know I'll look like a fool, but my feet will thank me!
About the self tanners.. if I try one out this week, and I hate it, would it fade evenly or look splotchy?? That's what I'm worried about.
Post by belltwala1 on May 30, 2011 12:56:30 GMT -5
this is kinda gross but we are all sisters here. if the legs to the rompers are really wide you can still do them. use your imagination..... i dont do rompers but they are really in...could work
To have the best luck with self tanners or Airbrushing I would stick with a lighter shade.. All of them can get splotchy, but if it is just a nice healthy glow it should do okay. Just be sure to exfoliate. And one spot that I never thought about fading funny was on my neck sort of up under my chin. For a while I would use the gradual tanners for months, and if I didn't exfoliate there it would get a little splotchy. But yeah.. This far out, just don't use anything bride wars orange and you should be fine even if you don't like the results.
I just read that you can rent lockers this year. And that there is a new air-conditioned lounge with a place to charge cell phones. This is an improvement over last year... Thought you ladies might be interested. I always get stuck carrying everything because I have a purse or backpack.. This year I don't have to if we rent a locker... Yay! And the AC is great for drying off to reapply sunscreen.
Hmmm. Wonder how pricey the lockers are. I think we are in Access so I can run back to camp pretty easily. I still like to have stuff in centeroo. We have our backpack chairs that have shade canopies and I usually can't carry more than that.
Pics are good but y'all can pm me for my real name and add me on fb too. I will most likely be bringing sticky name tags to brunch and some sharpies so we can have our screen names displayed.
I already posted this in the shoe thread but I got some Tevas today. Also a really cute shirt and some shorts. I have been playing with my kariza but can't wrap it to my liking.

Check out YouTube for a complete video of how to tie the kariza if you don't already have instructions.
Going back to my thought about curling feathers.. I know feathers are naturally straight lol, I just think it would look silly in my curly hair. I think I'll just hold out for now.
I wore my hair curly today. I don't think they look bad. I didn't curl them, I just scrunched my hair like normal.
Has anyone tried newsprint nails? I did mine today, and they turned out okay. I wish I could get the print a bit darker. I have tried to take a picture, but it is just not working out for me. Anyway, if any of you have tried this, I would love tips!
I am a chronic over planner...REALLY...I should be medicated for it. But anyway, I was making my ultimate list of items to carry on my person in Centeroo, and I thought that I would share. (I am going with a group, so this makes the list much less daunting to know that we can all be responsible for something different.) There is so much good information on this board, but I thought that I would make a list of the things that I wish someone had shared with me for my first Bonnaroo. After all, it is hard to look glam when you find yourself seriously unprepared for the elements.
The #1 MOST IMPORTANT thing on this list is WATER. - CamelBak, Water Bottle, etc *How you get water is up to you, but DRINK WATER. *If you bring a water bottle or CamelBak, the security guys always have the option to ask you to empty the contents and refill inside. Hopefully this won't happen. The water in Centeroo doesn't taste the best, so you may choose to bring Gatorade or other powdered drink mix to add to the water.
What to Carry Everything In: -Backpack, purse, stylish "fanny pack", etc *This is totally your personal preference, and there are benefits and drawbacks to each. Keep in mind that there will be rentable lockers this year, so if you are alone or just don¡¦t feel like carrying everything, you can stash your stuff in a locker and forget about it until you need it. One thing to keep in mind is that if you carry a backpack in and leave it in a locker, you will probably wear off any sunscreen that you applied, so now would be a good time to hit up an air conditioned place to dry off and reapply sunscreen. *A small extra bag stashed inside your main bag can come in handy if you buy more goodies from the vendors than you can carry.
Valuables: -Money -Phone (& charger?) -Camera -Map and Schedule -ID and any important Medical Tags
*Keep these items safe. If you are carrying a backpack do not put them in your back pocket where they are easily accessible to wookies. If you are wondering what wookies are, look this up on Urban Dictionary now. *I'm not sure how the cell phone charging works, but the Bonnaroo website states that there will be a place to charge your phones. I do not know if this means that there will just be a power source or if this means they will provide chargers as well. This is a new and welcome addition to Centeroo.
Snacks: -Carrying a snack bar or two can help out in a pinch.
Sun Protection: -Travel size sunscreen to re-aply (leave the big bottle at camp) -Hat -Sunglasses -Long Sleeves or Lightweight Scarf -Small Umbrella (???- no official consensus on weather they are allowed, but I know large ones will be tossed to the side as always along with the too tall chairs. If you bring one, please please please be courteous to your neighbors during shows. -SPF containing lip balm
Staying Cool: -Pocket fans &/or Misters can be AWESOME on a hot day -Bring extra hair ties and bobby pins to keep your hair off your neck -Bandanas have many uses
Seating: -Blanket, Sheet, Towel, Sarong, etc to sit or sprawl out on -Layer of plastic to sit on and throw away if it rains *ex. Garbage bag, table cloth, mattress cover, poncho, shower curtain liner, etc (all are from the dollar store and can be cut to size to get the most for your money) -Optional camp chair *must be short...I suggest the Ozark Stadium Seats from Walmart. After reading mixed reviews on these chairs, I learned that the company improved the durability of the product. If possible, look for the ones with the gray metal, not the black metal frames. These seats weigh about a pound and can clip to your backpack with carabiners. It may seem like a lot to carry, but I can remember just praying to find somewhere to rest my back against anything.
On Your Feet: -Comfortable Shoes *One guy said that he used a pedometer and walked 40 miles before the weekend was over¡K so if you are wondering if your shoes will be comfortable, consider walking 40 miles in them the test. *Bring multiple pairs of shoes. I you get a blister, it is nice to have shoes that rub in a completely different spot, and you might want a different pair in rain than on a sunny day. -Blister protection *Bandaid Blister Covers (stay and heal better than mole skin) *Mole Skin *Extra Socks
Porta-Potty Success: -P-Style if it's your thing -Toilet Paper -Wipes and Coleman Brand toilet seat covers (Walmart camping section) can fix most porta-potty nightmares -Hand Sanitizer -Glow Sticks (HIDE GLOW STICKS FROM SECURITY entering centeroo) or LED light to see in porta-potty at night Rain Gear: -$1 ponchos or better to toss in your bag (leave the bulky jackets at camp unless you know it is going to rain) -Dry bag, zip locs, or at least some level of protection for valuables during the rain
Mini-First Aid Kit: -Leave the big kit at camp, but bring the necessities *Prescription Medications, Pain Killers, Bug bite/sting stick, bandaids and blister protection, Imodium and other stomach medications like pepcid in case the vendor food hits you wrong. *If there is anything major there are medical tents, but you really don't want to be without these basics.
Chafing Protection: -Any of the following work wonders for chafing *Bike Shorts under skirts *Monistat Ant-Chafe *Body Glide *Deodorant and Gold Bond
Hopefully this list has helped you be better prepared. Keep in mind that if you go with a buddy that you don't have to plan or pack every item on this list by yourself.
And one other word of caution, and this is incredibly important for us ladies: If you haven't tried it before Bonnaroo or you don't know where it came from, this might not be the best time to try it or test your luck. Please be safe in everything you do, and have fun. It helps to have a buddy, and even if you are brave enough to go alone, please show up to the Inforoo Brunch and make some friends to help look out for each other. I've even seen on other threads where some people are joining GroupMe. I don't know much about this app for phones, and I would use the app with caution if you don't know people, but it is also a good way to stay in touch, be safe and have someone to watch the shows with.
Everyone take care and I hope to meet you all there!!

Hi everyone! I wandered into Gabriel Brothers today and *accidentally* walked out of there with more dresses than I could ever mange to wear over 4 days at Roo and a brand new pair of Birks If you have one near you, it is worth a shot for some cute dresses.
Going back to my thought about curling feathers.. I know feathers are naturally straight lol, I just think it would look silly in my curly hair. I think I'll just hold out for now.
I wore my hair curly today. I don't think they look bad. I didn't curl them, I just scrunched my hair like normal.
Looks great!!
Just to add to the cell phone charging.. They had charging at the Fuse barn. First you had to wait in line, I think my shortest wait time was about 30 minutes. They had signs for different charger sections.. Droid, iPhone, Motorola, etc. And they only had a certain amount of chargers, so even if you got to the front of the line and your charger wasn't available you had to wait until one opened up. You give them you're phone, they give you a little pick up tag. And you come back to pick up your phone.
Also, they only let phones charge for 30 minutes at a time. AND if you had your charger and they had an open outlet they would let you leave both... so that was nice.
I'm glad it's going to be inside and air conditioned.. that's freakin great.

Researched the newsprint nails a bit more.. Vodka was suggested as working better than plain alcohol.. Some people wet the newspaper on the nail, but some dip their finger in a cup of the alcohol and then press on the paper. I wonder if this would work with some of my old stands tunes?? And get music notes instead of words?? I will have to play.
Looks great!!

i didn't know that they had charging last year... i guess it's the addition of the ac that's new.
And I had never heard of the newsprint nails before, but I looked it up, and of all the photos I thought it looked best over a white polish. That's so cool. I was trying to figure out how to do my nails for the festival, and that is a good idea.
I'm bringing no show socks for my sanuks. Even my awesome sanuks give me a blister on the top of my little toe, and moleskin won't stay on if my feet sweat. I know I'll look like a fool, but my feet will thank me!
Waterproof tape works really well on blisters at Roo. I end up with one every freaking year and I just wrap the tape completely around my foot several times. Protects the blister and stays on through anything.
You and I can be "sisters in socks"! I'm not even going to try to hide mine. Walmart had a pack of 6 little shorties (just below the ankle bone) in really bright colors - I bought them and will wear them proudly with my crocs and sandles. It's all about comfort (within reason of course)
My husband and I are thinking about signing up for the brunch - is it too late? This is our first ever music festival and we want to have lots of fun

ah... no definitely not too late.. the brunch is pretty much a giant pot luck from what I gather. Just check out the thread... tell them you plan on coming and check the list to see what you should bring. I'm bringing little debbie zebra cakes since nothing I could cook would make it all the way there... we leave on our semi-cross country trip this coming Sunday, so it's fast approaching for us.
Your first music fest is always exciting! You're going to have a blast!

Just signed up - thanks for the brunch hint
I've been busy sewing dresses for Roo (might have gotten a little carried away). I'll have to post pics. I used the tank top/t-shirt with a fabric skirt that someone posted here and it worked really well.
CVS sells moleskin, which is invaluable when blisters happen!
Beltwalla...hey girl! LOL, I thought the same thing about the rompers. If the leg opening is wide enough...alas, I think I'll stick with dresses.
To add to Annabelle's list, I always put a large Ziploc and a small trashbag in whatever I carry. If it rains, my phone and other things go in the Ziploc, and I can put the whole bag in the trash bag. One more thing...Evian makes little aerosol bottles which are very refreshing on the face after being in the sun.

I just wanted to post a tip for all you ladies who have curly/kinky/frizzy hair like me and normally wear it straight. I have HATED my curl pattern for years and haven't worn it natural in at least a decade. I was kind of stressing out about Roo hair (intermingled with telling myself to get over it already, haha) so I talked to my hairdresser this weekend.
She talked me into buying Morroccanoil intense curl cream which is SUPER expensive... I was skeptical but... HOLY WOW!! Lifechanging product. I have cute, sproingy, full, shiny curls. I look like Shirley Temple, I swear to god. I am very skeptical about products (I have fine, delicate, kinky hair and a ton of it; most things don't work on me for one reason or another) but this stuff did the job. Just wanted to pass it on. This and my Cream of Nature, Frizz-Ease and a wide tooth comb are going to be my hair routine at Roo.

I don't have curly hair, but I do have frizzy, semi wavy hair and I use the original Morroccanoil and I am completely obsessed with it! It smoothes my hair and it smells amazing. You can also use a tiny bit on your scalp if its super dry like mine gets in the winter. Also, it lasts forever... I bought a bottle of it April of last year and it isn't even half gone yet!

I'm obsessive over my nails...they have to be painted, but I can't stand chipped nails. I tend to repaint them every 4 or 5 days, and usually do some kind of fun design too, so I really spend a lot of time on my nails (right now they are silver and black crackle, and I'm doing tan and navy moon nails tonight). The newsprint nails mentioned above are really intriguing, I will definitely be trying that soon.
The best solution I've come up with for Bonnaroo is the Sally Hansen nail sticker things...they last like 2 weeks for me, and have all kinds of fun designs. I am debating between the gold w/ fishnets and the multi-color glitter ones. I will probably go with the glitter because they are super eye-catching, and with a coat of Seche Vite on top will sparkle like crazy.

Great to hear it lasts so long (that offsets the price a bit)... and you're right, it does smell incredibly good! I know its silly to get so excited about a hair product, but really, this stuff made my whole weekend
I'm thinking of skipping the long hippie dresses that I am accustomed to wearing at Roo. For some reason I feel like either wearing shorts or really short dresses this year. I really want one of those little shorts rompers. I have no fashion budget though so I might hit up the thrift stores and see what I can throw together.
Forever 21 has some cute, basic jumpsuits and rompers (and sundresses too!) for under $10. I ordered a bunch of stuff from there. I went with cheaper items, which are mostly solids, and plan to accessorize with some 'Roo shopping.
My Crocs came in today. They are slightly large, so I am totally going to bring some socks to pimp with them if needed. IDC HOW it looks!
And I've got super-fair skin. I have learned to embrace my fair skin, and have zero qualms about not having a tan. Hopefully everyone around me will be wearing sunglasses anyway
A few responses to previous messages in this monster thread (BTW it used to be even bigger but we broke the 1st GFT in 2007 or so from being so monster! ;D) Go us!
I wear my engagement ring, have every year. I figure it could get lost on a city street as well as lost at Roo, though it can't slide off even if I tried.
I bring a camp mirror, they're like $3 at WalMart and have a hook on the back so it's easy to hang in your tent from a random loop. They are like 4x6" in size; perfect for applying sunscreen, inserting contacts, etc.
I bring tinted lip balm & waterproof mascara and wear it and it has never melted on me. Same with stick deodorant. I carry the balm with me, the deodorant is just hanging out in my tent.
I have like 2 perfect Roo dresses and otherwise am struggling. Got some from ON that I thought would be great, but after washing I see they suck big dogs. Will keep searching...

Ooo, camp mirror... I'll have to look for one of those, thanks for the tip!
I, too am a whiter shade of paper. I decided not to worry about it. Even with SPF 50 I'm pretty sure my freckles will start busting out in waves as soon as that TN sun hits me.
For nails... I like that Sally Hansen nail design idea! I was also considering getting a gel manicure, though I've heard that can irritate some people's hands (not sure if that's true or not since its a relatively new craze).
Now if I could only find a HAT!! Decided too late for mail order that I don't like the one I have, after all. Hoping Walmart has some decent mens' straw hats this weekend (with a 7 5/8" noggin, I have zero hope of finding a ladies' hat that'll fit).

I got the gel manicure once and I decided to take it off myself. Warning: Don't take it off yourself- go back to where you had it done! It ruined my nails and they were paper thin for what felt like years! I have friends who love the gel manis though and have them taken off at the place where they had them done.
