Well, you ARE in the thread containing what I'm sure is the greatest concentration of overpackers. So first of all, there is nothing wrong with overpacking! Do whatever it takes to make Roo comfortable. For a lot of us, we're more comfortable if we overpack and don't have to worry about "but what if I NEED my _____?!" But on the other hand, don't let us change your mind about anything! Most of us tend to wear dresses all the time because the, er, ventilation is pretty nice, and because some shorts can chafe. But shorts and tanks is fine if you feel like you'll be more comfortable that way. I guess in this case I would definitely advise overpacking - if you're not sure, bring both.
Ladies - just wanted to say - this is the LONGEST I've waited to get my poop together for Roo. I am doing the clothing layout THIS WEEK. like, Wednesday or Thursday night. I have all these outfits in my mind, but have yet to actually acquire all the crap for them. i.e. my Friday RooTu outfit is complete and AWESOME in my mind, but I have.... the tank, and the bikini bottoms. thats all in a like 6 piece outfit. SHOOT.
Anyhow - all that to say, I think this week would be a good time to start our annual packing lists posts! So much fun to see the GFT clothing going into bags If anyone gets there, and is actually putting things in bags, post it up!!!

I've procrastinated getting my Roo stuff together this year too! I JUST started my Roo pile today and that is NOT NORMAL for me! I'm usually so prepared and on top of things when it comes to Roo!

You ladies aren't the only ones! I still have a dress to alter and I don't even know if I have enough clothes and pj's that will fit me. Now I have to plan a RooTu outfit too.

It looks like we've all been procrastinating. Yesterday was my first trip to a store to get anything for Roo and I haven't even done inventory to see what stuff I already have versus what I need. And actually, a lot of my stuff is at my parent's house because I didn't feel like trekking it all with me when I moved! So most of my Roo clothes and supplies are 2+ hours away.
I feel a little sick about it all now, actually. Here comes the panic attack!
Also, speaking of RooTu outfits, what are y'all planning on wearing? I was just gonna wear bike shorts and the 'Tu on bottom in place of the denim shorts I'll wear for the rest of the day, and otherwise rock the outfit I'd be wearing for the rest of the day anyway.
If you are looking for a good hydration pack, I bought this one, it's Coleman brand from Target. www.target.com/p/Coleman-Orange-Gray-Hydration-Pack-8-Liter/-/A-13814367#?lnk=sc_qi_detaillink This will be the third Roo I've had to for, and I've brought it to probably 8 festivals total. The one I have had an 8 liter bladder, but it's still only 18.5 inches by about 10 inches. It has a few pockets besides the bladder, which gave me enough room to carry a lot of water, a long sleeve shirt, my schedule, phone, money, camera etc. Carried everything I needed and the weight/size of the pack was just right.
My faux-Camelbak is also from Target! Unfortunately it's out of stock, but could be good for reference:
The size is perfect & I like having my main pocket be lower down - it's easy to grab things with the pack still on one shoulder. Here's some pictures of all that I'm able to fit into my pack without it feeling overstuffed: debbieroo.blogspot.com/2011/06/centeroo-supplies.html
I did replace the bladder with a fancy one from Osprey because the Target one broke. But then two or three of those tall, thin water bottles fits nicely in the bladder compartment
i finally finished all of my sewing and craft projects today for bonnaroo! i think i will end up only wearing my rootu on friday night....im afriad during the day i will just get to irritable with the tulle..... im just wearing it with a tank top and some pj shorts under.....along with some fun accessories for night time

Me to, and I am usually fully packed a month ahead!! Today I finally put my stack of dresses together along with other stuff that was in attic.

Me too, Brie. I don't want to wear it all day, so I was leaning towards Friday night... but I also want to wear it at Brunch.. so I am a little lost!
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
i was thinking of wearing bike shorts under my rootu. i wear them under my dresses at roo a lot anyway. if you have tu, you must wear it to brunch for the groop picture never too many tus.

I thought about wearing bike shorts and a green tank with my rootu, but I may end up just wearing it over my dress. That way I can take it on and off and not worry about running back to camp to change.
Oh my gosh, I can't believe that in one week I will be doing my final packing and getting ready to leave! I lost so much time in the past two weeks to emergency family stuff. I need to finish my companions' Rootus and get all my clothes back together—I had everything neatly stacked in my Roo pile and then I liked it all so much I've been wearing it often!
i have that problem too! i end up wearing the dresses that i bought for roo and then have to do a mad dash to get them all together, washed and packed.
You ladies got me all freaked out. I leave for Waka in 2 days and still don't have all my outfits picked out. To my defense, the weather forecast has been really fluctuating, so I've been waiting on that. Plus, I did ALOT of sewing this weekend.

Helloooo fellow females. My roommate and I are longtime want-to-goers, first-time-actual-goers. ... with absolutely no idea what to pack.
I live in Florida, and I work a very active job at Walt Disney World walking/dancing/running around all day, so I don't mind the heat. Hopefully this means I don't have to worry about this awful chafing I keep reading about!
First choice would be to run around naked and lose 20 pounds, but since that's not likely in the next 7 days, we should probably start packing our bags.
I think my main question is, should I expect all the clothing I bring to get torn, muddy, grass-stained, or ruined? And since I AM from Florida, I might actually get cold if the temperature drops below 75 degrees!
I'm so new with no idea what I'm doing. Forgive me.

Ok, so the lovely ladies in this thread are all more experienced than I am (I only have one 'Roo under my belt, with another coming this year) and will have tons of excellent advice but I thought I'd help how I could.
First, chafing can ruin your time. It is better to be prepared for it (which is easy... if you don't think it'll happen, just tossing some Gold Bond powder in to take with you should be sufficient) than to not be and for it to happen with no way for you to relieve the pain. If you don't have a problem, awesome! But if it starts to feel like you might, just toss some Gold Bond on.
Second, as far as clothes, pack what you are going to be comfortable in. A lot of the ladies rock bikini tops instead of bras, I'll be wearing a mix of sports bras and my comfiest, most abused bras depending on how I feel. Bring 2 pair of undies per day, just because if you get caught in downpour or whatever, you want to be able to change. A lot of people just wear full bathing suits under their outfits... if that is something you think you might like to do, go for it!
I, personally, am taking shorts and breezy tank tops plus a few t-shirts in case my shoulders burn. Most of the girls pack and swear by dresses, so that is totally an option! Just make sure you've got a pair of leggings or two and a light hoodie to throw on at night in case it gets super cold.
Did any of my clothes last year get stained, torn, or otherwise ruined? No. They were all very dirty, obviously, but nothing got ruined. That being said, don't take anything that it would make you very very sad to ruin, because that is totally a possibility. You could stain it sitting on the grass, it'll definitely get dusty/dirty/sweaty, and if it rains, your clothes could get super muddy.

Welcome, welcome! That's so exciting that you guys are finally going to make it after wanting to for a long time! And no need to apologize for asking questions - we looove questions!
I haven't really had anything get ruined apart from cheap flip flops. Well, and a comb that just wasn't up to the task of my post-Roo hair. That said, I wouldn't bring anything you'd be devastated to lose. (Although that applies to everything, not just clothing. If you absolutely cannot live without it, it doesn't belong at Roo.)
There will be mud, so do be prepared from that. I would say you should be prepared for anything that will be within a foot or two of the ground to get muddy, but beyond that you can avoid it if you want. (Obviously if you decide romping around in a mud pit in front of the stage sounds fun, all bets are off!) The only way clothing apart from shoes/socks/etc will get muddy (apart from like...if you fall down in it) is if you wear flip flops. Flip flops WILL fling mud all the way up to the top of your head.
As for chafing - if you're used to doing a lot of moving around in heat and humidity, then you're probably right that if it was going to happen to you, you'd know it. I would probably still recommend having some Gold Bond with you in case, though.

Okay so...my rootu is complete and is so pretty and rainbow and fun! ....buuuut I am like whoa self conscious in it because I feel like it is huge! I flattened it down overnight and it is better, but I still think it is whoa fluffy. Any thoughts, beauties?? Did y'all feel this way with your first tu??

I kinda wish mine was poofier! I am going to aim poofier with my new one, I think. That said, if you think you would like a little less poof, I would recommend that you find some old tights or pantyhose, cut a leg off (and cut the foot off the leg) and try to cram the tutu into it so that it'll hold all of the strips all condensed together. Store it like that for a while (maybe even just pack it like that for Roo since it'll be easier to pack that way anyway) and that'll mellow out the poof a little bit. Just make sure you don't get the strips all crumpled up when you cram it in there, or you'll end up with a crinkly curly tutu. Unless you want it like that, of course - mine is sort of that way and I kinda like the look, but that will only make it poofier, so...yeah.

On the Camelbak convo, if there's any fellow Canadians in this thread, Canadian Tire is having a sale on Camelbak-type-things this week. They have a regular $30 one on for $17.99 and a regular $45 one on for $25. I went for the slightly pricier one after a random guy told me it was much better quality. Though he probably thought I was going hiking or something. . .
As far as chafing, I have bigger thighs and found last summer that I can get a rash if it's bare legs + walking (like under a dress). So I picked up a pair of cheap leggings and I'm cutting them to just-above the knee for just these issues.
I have yet to search for my tutu... if I can find it I want to wear it for the brunch, though my Gibbous-style fairy skirt could work in its place perhaps.. if I can find that. I need to get packing. I'm leaving Friday! (Doing Memphis and Nashville first).
Welcome Carmen! I did the Disney College Program back in 02, you can be sure wearing the costumes in the Orlando heat are definitely going to help you in being physically prepared for roo.
The only thing I ever had to ruin was a brand new pair of crocs. I have no idea how but they just kinda ripped. My rootu is slightly fluffy. I am planning on just wearing swimsuit bottoms with it. My friend is going to wear capri length tights with hers.
I re-upped my amazon prime membership last night....... So far I have glow bracelets, 3 el wires, and a chillow pillow in my cart - and it keeps bringing up recommended items that I waaaant. Oy vey.
Welcome Carmen!!! I think Echo did very well in answering your questions (Echo, good job! You GFT gals grow up so fast! ) And Pepper said it - I wouldnt anticipate things being ruined, but if you can't live without it, it shouldnt come to Roo. So happy you and your friend are making it this year!!! You should try to come to the brunch - we'll all be there ;D
**edit** I stopped buying. I just placed my amazon order and that's IT! NO MORE! .....i mean unless i need a new book on the kindle... NO NO, Im going to stop! aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh amazon will be the death of my banking account.

Oh, Mayo. You don't stand a chance. I started off with Amazon prime because a .edu email gets you a free membership for a year, and I didn't even hesitate to re-up it when it came time. Worst/best decision I ever made. And the recommendations are similarly a best/worst decision. But sometimes it hurts so good to be bad, y'know? And then your impulse 2 a.m. purchase of a handcarved wood spoon, used copy of a beloved book from childhood, and misc. camping supplies get there two days later, and for free! Not that I would know, or anything...
(Also, hey, thanks! Only because I spent months last year reading the GFT wisdom in secret and had one of the smoothest first 'Roos ever, I think. )
^^^ girl, I KNOW. I had Prime for a couple years, but let it lapse bc my cc number changed. So when I got the Kindle, and I couldnt share any books bc I had no prime, I was PISSED. So...... last night I talked it out with a friend, and decided I needed to do it if I want my RooTu EL Wire to get here in time. Priorities, right?

^^^ Those are better priorities than mine. I claimed I needed it so I could order used textbooks and have them get here in time. Really I use it for cooking supplies, used books, and last-minute gift purchasing. Also to buy the most misc. stuff ever. And shoes. (It seems shoes always come into it somehow for me.)
I started off with Amazon prime because a .edu email gets you a free membership for a year
Gah! I work at a college and have an .edu email. I didn't know about this! I wonder if they will give me year two for free??
This is not Roo specific, but I have a festival this weekend and the weather will be no bueno. Low 60s with chance of showers on Saturday and Sunday. I own work clothes and sun dresses. Nothing in between. I don't even own a long sleeve shirt outside of sweatshirts either. I have a feeling my outfits will be a dress/leggings/sweatshirt all weekend. Not very fun. :/
