I am curious to see how the cell phone service is at bonnaroo with the various providers?
last year I had verizon, and the signal was pretty strong everywhere I went. I just recently switched to AT&T, anyone know if I'm going to have any issues/dead areas?

There was a thread about this last year and it was pretty much unanimous that everyone who had Verizon did fine and I think Sprint, but most of the other carriers were not so reliable.
In general I have better coverage with Verizon than anyone I know with other carriers, so I won't be changing it anytime soon.

I had Cingular/AT&T, and service was horrible. Although I always had full bars, I could never dial out except for once on Saturday afternoon. I'd dial the number, and then a few seconds later hear the disconnect tone, without any ringing in between. Text messages were frequently hours late.
And to think AT&T is one of the most high-profile sponsors at 'Roo!
This year, I'm picking up a pay-as-you-go Verizon phone and having my cell phone forward all calls... back in Jersey.
had at&t/cingular last year and i could've sent better fart signals. no texting or anything till late night (1-2 am) or burly early. my lady friend had verizon and had no problems at all. verizon must own the tower closest to roo.

i have nextel.. and while i wasnt REAAALLLY calling anyone.. except for like fathers day on sunday.. i had no problem when i did make a call.. and no problem with texts.
which is a miracle for nextel.. because i cant get that satisfaction these days.. farm field in tennessee.. yES.... everywhere else... nada.
thats correct. There is actually a tower on the roo property all the way over on the west side of the farm near I-24. But yes, Verizon does own that tower.

i thought that might be the case. c'mooooon at&t! get with the program you roo sponsors!
It is not a coverage issue for AT&T. They all have coverage, which indicates that the tower may not be owned by Verizon. Most towers are not owned by any provider. They are leased and most towers handle the equipment and calls for multiple providers. That is not always the case though. But back to the point. The reason we all have problems getting AT&T calls to go through stems mainly from the fact that most people on the farm have AT&T service. Far more than the other providers. This causes an overload to the system. And therefore we can never get calls to go through. I solved that problem real easy last year. I put my phone away for the weekend.

That makes sense... but can't they set up temporary towers to handle the overflow? I seem to remember AT&T in particular announcing something just like that last year, so they could set up 'hot zones' for big events, then break'em back down and restore normal service when the event was over.
Just sayin'.... if they're gonna brag about how great they are all festival, they should really make it a point not to fall on their faces so easily...
This is true. They are called COWs (Cell On Wheels). They certainly should increase capacity for the weekend and I thought they would last year but they didn't for whatever reason. A bad decision considering the self promotion they are trying at the festival. Maybe they will get the message for this year. I might even contact the person who is over that area but I make no promises.

I have T-Mobile and last year, I was the only one in my group of 8 that had service. I think T-mobile has a deal to use other towers, probably picked up Verizon's.
Is the AT&T problem reoccurring every year? If it is, I might get a Verizon pay as you go phone just for the festival. I almost lost a few interviews last year because I couldn't get a hold of the bands. Thankfully I was able to use a land line to make the calls.
No reception is a big pain in the ass. With AT&T being one of the sponsors, they should really get a hold of this situation, or face the wrath! I know there are a ton of people on the site that use their service, but there's gotta be some sort of remedy!
