the codetalkers is a great announcement. i hope to be able to check out brothers past also. but on the whole id say the announcements have been lacking this year. oysterhead is the only one i really thought was killer and it might as well have been an inital. i kept thinking that they were saving jambands for last to draw the attention of a new crowd with common, cypress hill, dcfc, and whatnot. but i really think we are just screwed. i guess jambands only get a couple representatives this year. there is enough great music to keep me happy but i think it is sad that it just wont be the roo i have grown to love. all full of jammy goodness
all i know is if the scheduling makes me as angry as the announcements have im going to be a sad little monkey

I just checked the last announcement from '05 and there wasn't any "this is the final announcement/completes the lineup" wording in it, so its not impossible that this would be the final. This also brings the artist total to 85 by my count (they have the Circus and Preservation Hall listed as single artists on the artist page). Since the initial lineup annoucement stated that there were 80+ acts, I would be surprised if they got to 90, so any round six would likely be pretty small. Basically I wouldn't be surprised either way (with or without a Round 6).
If you were hoping for bigger names, than this would certainly be a dissappointing announcement.
If you weren't necessarily expecting bigger names, it seems like this announcement has a little something for everybody. I mean, did everyone notice that there are like half a dozen bands listed in the Preservation Hall announcement. This certainly has to make this the biggest jazz lineup Bonnaroo has had and I've been hoping for more of that for a long time.

i just checked out be your own pet and all i can say is blahhh!!! definetly not for me.
i am amazed at the number of acts that i dont care for and wonder what the hell they are doing at roo that have coachella listed as a date when i check them out. why is superfly doing this? is it really that important for them to beat coachella and sacrafice their jam roots to do it.
i do believe this is the last year for roo. well actually to me last year was the last year for roo. they wouldnt forsake everyone that came before just to win the most mainstream festival award if they had intentions of carrying on.

ya me too. you just have to be careful. use protection. you dont want to end up at a couple of these shows or you could be harmed for life
Actually, I think you've got it wrong. I think Bonnaroo might be a pimp. The artists are it's whores. Some are high class hookers worth paying and arm/leg for, some are toothless wonders who wouldn't be bad for a quick blowjob, and some have more STDs than I can count on two hands.
That being said, I'll be doing so many whores at Bonnaroo that I'll catch something that I might be ashamed of.

Another more subtle announcement, not on any of the news pages but on the artist line up - Ivan Nevilles Dumpstaphunk Featuring: Member Bands Played With Nick Daniels - Neville Brothers Ray Weber - Trey Anastasio Band and Joe Sample Ian Neville - Funky Meters and Neville Brothers Tony Hall - Trey Band and Dave Mathews and Friends Ian Neville - Neville Bros and New Orleans Social Club Check out their site - www.dumpstaphunk.com - they have a pretty sick sound The announcements seem kind of lame but what bonnaroo is doing that no other festival is doing is the collaborations between members of different bands. Preservation Hall Jazz Band Bindlestiff Family Circus Umph/Bisco Oysterhead Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk

i'm betting round 6 is one big name and two small names and thats it... here's to hoping for pearl jam, abb, or sci..
as for this round... i think it's pretty sweet... of course we all had higher hopes but codetalkers, brothers past, and all that other cool shit (jazz tent and circus tent) makes this a pretty substantial addition

I think you all whine entirely too much......This is a badass lineup and you just always expect more and more....You bitch and moan about who got added and then if someone you like did get added you bitch about lineup conflicts. Get over it!!! Not every band you want to see will be there and you still won't see all the bands you want. Just go and enjoy and stop complaining. Attittudes like the ones i see on this board are why people who are die hard Bonnaroo fans are becoming annoyed with newbs!!
I am not too thrilled right now as I sit at my desk at work and read this. But, I go with an open mind and try to hear some new music and artists that I was never familiar with. This is by all accounts, a music festival, so if I broaden my tastes then it is fine. Like the last poster stated, there is so much music to see and hear, you would never be able to see all the shows. I think last year I seen 37 acts more then 1 hour at a time. So once I do some research, I am sure I will be glad to see some of the new additions. I am still excited, The bonnaroo adventure is so exciting.
It's always bands you never heard of that end up blowing you away!
This will be my first roo and this is what I am looking for and I have no doubts about roo delivering on this. Nothing like stumbling across new mind blowing music.
I downloaded a Codetalkers show, listening to it now and I can't wait to check them out.

I have to agree w/ phishphan99..I have gone to alot of music festivals and almost every time it is a band I have never heard of that ends up to be my new favorite band. I am excited about the new additions to the fest. I have seen Col. Bruce and the Code talkers playing w/ Vassar Clements at Suwanee and they were great. You just have to have an open mind and take a chance...if you don't like it just move to the next stage. I have been downloading songs from all the line-up and I am very excited to be going and checking out a bunch of new bands. You will have so many bands to see you are not going to have time to worry about who isn't playing. Just go and enjoy, be kind, and check out some new bands! ;D

You realize that you are complaining about people complaining, right? I think the fact that the majority of us paid around 200$ and will probably end up spending much more on this festival gives us the right to voice our disappointment over the artists additions.
Although I do have quite a bit of respect for those who manage to stay positive after waiting weeks for a shitty announcement. Which this certainly was. And the ones prior to it. Good luck selling more tickets, 'roo....
i know you guys want all of your favorite bands in one place. and the fact that Bonnaroo comes so close to that makes so many think that it will actually happen. its not feasible or realistic. but guess what? it wont matter! there are so many good bands playing already, any additions would just be bonuses. trust.
for all those who havnt been, let me put things in perspective for you: you can only really see about 5 full shows a day without being a superhero. theres just a limited amount of time and energy. youll see once you get there.
5 bands a day times 3 days = 15 full sets. if you cant find 15 bands that you are really pumped about AND youve already bought a ticket, then maybe you should complain, but i doubt thats the case for most of us.
even if you only have 5 or 10 bands you are really pumped about - focus on getting to those sets! it will be harder than you think. plus if this is the case for you, use your spare time to see the awesome comedy, Les Claypools movie, the art installations, circus, or just hang with some of the coolest people youll ever meet. or widen your horizons and dare to see a band youve never heard of or a genre your not typicall into (you will naturally have a more open mind just being at Bonnaroo. trust.) or you can rest cuz theres so much energy to burn. you can really get wrapped up in Bonnaroo. and i suggest that you do.
im just trying to throw in some perspective and lighten the mood after the general disappopontment. ya know?

i agree about the code talkers... to me that is a semi big announcement. but still the overall addition/lineup situation draws less excitement then years past. sure there are lots of bands i want to see but id trade all but 3 of them for someother things that i feel are more suited to roo but there will be plenty to see and do. i hope the schedule is well thought out

maybe Bonnaroo is still working on things. Like its been said, there are still two months to go; and some of Bonnaroos biggest acts were announced later on (Phil Lesh/Bob Weir, Neil Young/Crazyhorse, Leo Kottke/Mike Gordon, Vida Blue, JMP w/ jon Fishman, etc etc...)
I mean Neil Young/Crazyhorse was a Fri night HEADLINER! And not only were they NOT included in the initial line-up announcement, they were NOT even announced until april or may 2003, when Bonnaroo was in june! So look at precedence- in the past, bonnaroo has held HEADLINERS until april/may...
See, that probably wasnt Bonnaroos fault. Neil Youngs tour managers were prob dealing with European dates, domestic bookings, tour promotion, TV promos, planning co-bills with Lucinda Williams' managers, arrainging lodging and tour iteneniraries for Neil & band, etc etc etc...
It was probably a three month phone tag situation between suprfly and Neil Young to even confirm his set at Bonnaroo...
And this is probably what is happening now with our big acts we are expecting.
Especially with pearl jam- You are talking about a band who hasnt released an album since 2002, and 2000 before that. This band isnt worried about confirming a short set at a fest where 90 other bands are- they are planning SNL promotion gigs, Letterman appearances, tourdates, European shows, getting their album copies sold, and perfecting the new tunes...
If you check out Pearl Jams website, you can tell they are busy. The Band is busy, their publisist, promoters, managers, tour managers... they are all busy too! Pearl Jam is like a big beast with a new record, and they are planning a huge summer, and this is the first big tour they have done in a while, so they are just getting started...
ANYWAY!! - The way I see it is, Pearl Jam is booking dates as we speak, They added Summerfest with Petty, A Gorge date, and are talking about adding a third SF show. So their tour plans are still being worked on right now.
Bonnaroo probably knew they were three weeks out from the last addition, knew they were not ready to confirm certain bands yet, and in order to keep intrest up, just kicked out some plans they could afford to announce.
PJ is prob just dragging its feet to confirm signing to roo, and bonnaroo said eff it - we cant wait all month on PJ to sign, lets just throw up Brothers past and col bruce for now...

I mean remeber in 2003 - I thought Allman Brothers was headlining for like three months until Neil Young was announced. Then I knew It was Neil - WSP - The Dead.
But before Neil was announced it looked like: Allmans - WSP - Dead..
This is the most clever round yet... I'm certain expectations are hard to even meet now with so much big name speculation, but having an entire tent just for New Orleans music is very Important (with a capital "I") and the fact that Preservation will be there with such a concerted effort to focus on NOLA is truly A Good Thing. We have an entire tent where Neville Bro's, Dr. John and others can reside-- consider what that does to the max. number of bands.
Codetalkers and World Party are great adds.
And as someone has already said, there will be a Round 6 for Bare Jr. and no doubt one-two big names. I still maintain based on several hints that it's Pearl Jam, not be announced until after public onsale or near it of their second leg.
Anyway... for my own opinion: This announcement raises the bar in terms of excitement and unique experiences. This proves Superfly's want to amplify and up the ante in terms of vibe and good will-- which is why talk of sell-out bands and such like we have had is pointless. Again, musicians at their peak and Important experiences. I can't wait to partake.

i think i would want to check out all these bands, so this round looks good to me. plus the jazz tent?! wow.
i went to the first bonnaroo knowing maybe 5 of the bands that were playing. i've gone every year since, and there's always bands there that i've never heard of that blow me away. one crucial thing i've learned is that there's sometimes a big difference for me between the appeal of a band cd vs. its live show. for example, i can't listen to a lot of les' albums, but i would never miss him playing. it's all about finding what turns you on, and at roo, you have dozens of chances a day.
i lean more towards indie music, so i like this year's lineup a lot. but i've had a blast every year even when it was loaded with more jambands. but i agree with people saying this addition isn't going to sell tickets. i don't think the last one probably did either. if superfly can't sell this thing out, they might have to make some serious changes to how they put on this festival.
I'm thrilled with the round five additions... I love codetalkers, and the bands added this time seem to be way more exotic than cypress hill and such... and THE jazz band straight out of New Orleans. I'd take some good ole' jazz over pearl jam any day.
