^i did the same actually but i actually thought frances the mute to be a good starting point (for my taste at least). l'via l'viaquez is the song that really got me into TMV. if TMV and Phish played i think my head just might explode. i just hope it doesn't explode before Roo if so..
Start with De-Loused and simply go through their catalog in order. De-Loused is easily their most acessible album, and I kinda think if you don't like that, it'll be hard to enjoy the rest. Frances is different, the whole album works wonderfully together., but very very good. Amp goes off in a different tangent, and might throw people away at first listen, but I love that album. Then with TBIG a lot of people felt as if they were coming back more within the style of De-Loused.
Scabdates is their most impressive to me. It shows not only a fantastic live band but one of the most sonically progressive and experimnental bands today.

if that was the first thing i ever heard, i would not like them. stick with de-loused.
The last 20 minutes or so of the record where they veer away from an improv within Cicatriz ESP and just start doing random tape collages really hurts it for me. Because of that, I very seldom listen to it the whole way through.
Just a pointless (and overly distracting) detour of an otherwise amazing live album.
Well, I mean there is another thread that has a specific point: The Mars Volta is heavily rumoured to be at Roo this year.
If that is the case, then this thread has done it's job... after two years of consistent 1st page posts.
However, I'm in full support of keeping this thread alive... in fact, I'm going to start posting videos here, maybe daily, and I'll even post the little tid bit I got from the Comatorium (that I posted in the "other" TMV thread).
i saw them in columbus, and after the show i asked cedric if they could play shows in tennessee so i wouldn't have to drive to shows in different states, and he told me that it was hard to find a good venue and stage to fit all of them and their equipment.
and my sister told him that they should play bonnaroo again, and i believe he said hopefully, we'd love to.
As my Inebriated buddy walks out of the Porto, he yells out, "Dude...I love this place...bonnaroo thinks about everything...they even put beer holders next to the toilet!"
Had to break it to him that that was the urnal. Good times good times!

Frances the Mute was where I started too. It was a life changing album for me. I was in 8th grade and my music taste ranged from whatever music my sister was listening to at the time to what was playing on MTV. They opened me up to music as an artistic expression and not just a radio single. I still haven't seen them live and I think seeing them this year would be the best introduction to my first Roo.
