Anyone else a little bummed not to see TMV in the intial artist lineup. Man I sure was hoping to catch them again, I saw them at roo '05, and I've been hooked ever since, haven't seen them since then. Think it's possible they could appear in the additions?
I think it's a good possibility, because they are going to have their own headlining US tour whenever the overseas tour wraps up, which should be around May or June. Yeah, I'm definately bummed, specially since they're one of my favourites, but seeing Tool on that list made me feel better.
A new album, from who or where did you hear about this? I mean, hell Amputechture only came out in Sept. of last year, so I mean it hasn't been that long since the last one.
fair enough, I scoured the web looking for some kind of proof and so far have found nothing, but if you can show me the interview that would be great, but until then I guess I'll have to take your word on it

Yes, nola, you should definitely check out www.thecomatorium.com . It has been where I've gotten all my Mars Volta scoop etc. over the last four years or so.
I can't give you the exact link, but I know there is an interview with Omar on there in which he talks about how he's already working on the new album, and that was around the week that Amputechture came out if I remember correctly. I was shocked by it myself, but Omar is proving to be a workaholic of massive proportions, having managed to put out a couple of albums on his own in the same time frame of the last few Mars Volta albums. Amputechture was barely in the stores, and one of his quotes (paraphrased of course) was that he was already past that record. Plus they still haven't even toured the US as a headliner since the album came out, of course barring a couple of one-off shows during the Chilli Peppers tour.
Even if there were no Mars Volta announcement, which I too am holding out for in artist additions, wouldn't it be awesome even having The Omar Rodriguez-Lopez Group play? Maybe a little Damo Suzuki action to go along. The possibilities are endless with The Mars Volta. Word!

The Coma is a great spot for everything Volta. Someone on the site recently ran into Marcel, and they took a photo, so it isn't a lie. Anyway, they talked to him, and asked if they were in town recording the new album. He told them that it was already pretty much done, and that they were rehearsing (breaking in the new drummer) for the tour.
I absolutely love this band, and hope that they and Primus get added. Could you imagine this schedule?

Not seeing The Mars Volta in the initial line-up really bummed me out. Their set in '05 was absolutely amazing and I was really looking forward to a repeat. I've read that they don't normally like to play festivals but, that (after Roo and Vegoose) they really dig Superfly. Hopefully they'll be included in the additional artists. I'm not terribly excited about the line-up so far, but getting another chance to see them would make all the difference in the world. Someone else had mentioned how incredible it would be if they played this year with Flea and Frusciante backing them-up. That would be insane. Considering that Frusciante played almost all of the guitar on "Amputechture" and that Flea is always on their records in some capacity, I don't think that this is out of the question. Afterall, if there's one place to pull-off some crazy, legendary, onece in a lifetime live collaboration....It's BONNAROO!

Yeah the thing that did suck about that set though, was the fact that they came out late. That whole tour they were closing shows with Casandra Gemini, but not Bonnaroo. I have yet to see that song, and with the rate they put out new material I don't know if I ever will see it. Since Amputechture came out though, they have not really played many if any solo shows, so maybe it will make it's way into the rotation. In my opinion they should play it every night. By far and away my favorite song ever. It has everything anyone could ever want in a song.

Good to see that we have some Comatorium goers on here. Love the news there, but its a great example of a board I could never get into posting on because of the amount of idiots there.
All the news has been covered. New album, new drummer, new DVD, new tour. Omar will also be doing songs and a score for a movie. Not A Manual Dexterity, but something else spanish that I cant remember off the top of my head, something about Buffalo. Everyone should also try to find and listen to the Damo Suzuki/Omar release that GSL recently put out. Very good stuff.
The only doubt I have in my mind of them not playing is due to the fact that they played Vegoose last year and maybe dont want to do another superfly show until next year or maybe no fests. Other than that I think theres a good possibility theyll be announced. They are currently rehearsing for their tour. Them not being announced yet might have to do with them having not announced their tour dates.
Either way Ill be catching them this year. I stayed away from the RHCP tour because the chilis are pretty much awful live. Im a big fan of Johns solo work and have tremendous respect for Flea as a musician. Anthony and Chad are just like a Suck Circus on stage.
I was born in the back seat of a Yellow Cab in a hospital loading zone and with the meter still running. I emerged needing a shave and shouted 'Time Square, and step on it!
It would only make sense for the Volta to play. Looking at this year's initial line-up, I don't see that one late night show that everyone will love. Example: last year: MMJ, 05: TMV. But I think that if they were to play 'Roo this year, they would wait til the tour dates to be announced.

I never post anymore for that very reason. The flaming that goes on over there is ridiculous, and yet it's such a great source of speculation and actual truth that it merits daily visits.

It is awesome. Damo's voice is somewhat new to me as I never dug too deep into Can's discography, but the more I've listened to it, the better it's gotten. I really love Omar's guitar work, whether with Cedric or not. His solo stuff really gives off that jazz-fusion sound of the 70's even further than TMV in my opinion. Love it. I listen to the last solo album and it sounds like a band that would have opened for Mahavishnu Orchestra."

I like older Chili Peppers, not the new stuff so much. The closest that tour came to Nashville was Atlanta, but tickets were so high, and hearing reviews of the Volta shows opening up, it definitely didn't seem like the show to go to as a Volta fan. They are the kind of band that you travel to see when they headline.
And to continue this lovefest, I must also note that the Mars Volta set in '05 was one of my all time favorite shows as well. It's rare (well it was before Bonnaroo) for me to go to a festival and have a set performed that was better than when the band headlined elsewhere. I've seen the Mars Volta in many cities, but my god.....that show was devastating.
We shall collectively WILL the Mars Volta into this Bonnaroo...believe it! Hehe.

I saw an interview with Omar and Cedric where they said that they were having trouble figuring-out how to properly recreate some of the tracks on "Frances" on stage. With Omar's unusual approach to writing and recording music, this doesn't surprise me all that much. Eventhough "Scabdates" was released well after "FTM" it still consists mainly of songs from "Deloused". I hope this doesn't mean that he's getting too complex for the band to keep-up with in a live setting. Hopefully, they've got it all worked-out now and are preparing to stupify us at Bonnaroo this year. In '05, they opened with "Drunkship" and when Cedric cried-out "Is anybody there?", it sent shivers down my spine. The prospect of them unleashing some new stuff this time around is almost overwhelming. Let us pray.....

I was about 4 rows back spaced out big. Didnt snap out till about the last 5songs but jesus it was the best damn 5 songs Ive ever seen performed. If Volta is announced then I dont think Roo can ever top this year for me and my tastes.

SUPERFLY.....IS ANYBODY THERE?
Omar needs to swallow whatever weird pride he has an add a 2nd tour only guitarist. The problem lays with the fact that theres normally AT LEAST 2 guitar tracks going on TMV tunes. Any place where theres not the single track is layered pretty thick. They sound insane when John plays with them. Omar also has alot of growing to do with his instrament.

Yeah, Damo can scare the sh*t out of some people. The Comatorium is filled with a bunch of immature fanboys, but its got alot of inside info. Good call on the Mahavishnu.
