What about Wolfmother Great fuckin' band!! Amazing show!! They seem to be festival hopping come April...maybe a stop into 'Roo?? I'm crossing my fingers.
Amazing album and live show. They were making the rounds last year as well, and I was convinced that they would be at Roo '06....maybe they will make it in '07.
Love the album and their live show. Saw them in September and they rocked it out hard. I can definitely see them at the roo, but as more of an afternooner act
Actually, yes - in '97 or '98 (can't remember) in Virginia Beach. It was when they had briefly reformed to put together 'Album of the Year.' Quite an impressive show - but I feel like half the crowd still didn't know who they were. The best thing about Mike Patton is that he doesn't give a damn about the crowd - he's in his own world up there on stage.

I saw these guys at a small one day fest in Cleveland area last year. They didn't seem to have to ability to rock a big crowd.
The lead singer climbed up to the top of the speakers at one point, looked spooked, then crawled back down like he was scared he was going to hurt himself. That was a bit funny.

I saw them in Memphis last year, and they must have improved since you saw them...because they were incredible...granted it was in a mid-sized club (not a "big" crowd), but I don't have any doubt that their set will be top-notch.

Ha! I love the music these guys have put out, but from everything that I've seen of them playing live (never in person, mind) they don't seem too confident with themselves on stage yet. They seem like a band of wild natural talents that have been thrown into the role of "rock star" a bit faster than has been comfortable for them. But their music is good, and they can play, so all it will take is a little ajustment; I think they'll probably rock the 'roo.

that song WOman ruined them at first for me but once i got listenin to siongs liek Joekr and the Theif i started to appreciate them a lot more.
You don't like woman? why is that? It might not be their most creative song (lord knows the lyrics are as generic and meaningless as can be) but the song is solid, and it rocks. Joker and the Thief is one of my favorite Wolfmother songs, but Collosal really takes the cake; it's got to be the one of the heaviest songs that's come out in the last five years or so. And by heavy, I mean heavy like how Whole Lot of Love or Heartbreaker were heavy, I don't mean "brutal" or "intense" like deathmetal songs. Anyways, I can't wait for Wolfmother this year!
Wolfmother rocks. I just started listening to them a few weeks ago and I think that this is gonna be the equavalent of Dungen last year, I'm truly psyched.
tygerlady and me saw them when they first started touring and no one knew who they were ... they didnt even sell out a small club we saw them at (i think) ... we were right up on the lip of the stage and had a great time ... not really sure of the Zep comparision, but top notch show ... they were in the exit area as we left, i said hi, and they talked a bit with me ... seemed like stright up nice kids ... cr****
Okay heres the deal. I have now seen them twice. Once at the Hard Rock in Vegas. There they were outstanding. The Silversun pickups opened. Very different but also good. I saw them again last night in Columbus in a 3000 person stand only venue. They were really really really good. Any performance shorcomings they may have had are completely gone. (if they were there to begin with) They blew the roof off the place. Amazing the amount of sound for three people. No special lights or anything just loud rock and roll. For three hours the crowd passed people over their heads and dumped them on stage. They jammed and jammed. I have seen a lot of shows and with out anything fancy this was a top 10. Not sure how it will translate outside, but you could be in for a treat. His voice was clear and and even better in person. I stood just outside the door as 3k poured out and there were 3k big grins and a lot of wow can you believe thats.
zoey, i saw the same show on friday night at the vogue in indy. i was going to try and make the promo west show too but something came up. immagine promo but about a 3rd the size and thats the vogue. about 1000 people. how bout that communication breakdown?!?!? effin badazz!! everything you mentioned above is totally true x 10! that being said;
to all the wolfmother haters out there. you have no idea how great they are untill you see them live. anyone who says that "all they are is power chords" and that "they don't do solos" is on f@#$ing crack. some of the jams and solos made 1000 people drop their jaws to the floor. they played the whole album, a new tune, and one of the encores was communication breakdown! so for those of you who think you might pass on wolfmother at roo, you might want to rethink that. unless they are up against one of the big acts, you need to be there!
Now to me, an ideal Thursday lineup would have Black Angels and Wolfmother back to back in one of the tents even though I've heard they're playing Sunday. I wonder if they have a lineup on the Which Stage Sunday that goes something like Wolfmother>Fountains of Wayne>The Decemberists>The White Stripes. I think it would work if you put the Stripes up against a jamband on the What Stage.
I saw em on the mainstage, at the V fest in Baltimore last summer. They were quite unbelievable. You don't need to worry about what they'll sound like outside. They'll kill it wherever they are.
