The White Stripes have completed the recording and mixing of their sixth album. It is entitled:
"Icky Thump"
and is their first album to include a title track, which curiously (and not ironically) has the same words in it's name. Though some residents of northern England might almost recognize the title, the Stripes stress they are spelling it wrong intentionally just for "kicks" and "metaphors", and to avoid a possible lawsuit from the estate of Billy Eckstine.
Now we get really trivial. Back in the 70's wacky British Comedy trio The Goodies caused a national sensation for a year or so with "Ecky Thump", a northern English kung fu spoof that involved people wearing improbably large hats and beating each other with black puddings. Given Jack's fascination with all things British (Cricket, The Queen, old London Studios), I assume that where the title's from, and the comment about deliberate mis-spelling.

Top that, trivia buffs.

lets not give people more reason to think the world revolves around pitchfork, they are just good at reading others websites.

I believe the skeleton in the background is Meg.
Here's some news I found about "Icky Thump" . . . NME has the album tenatively scheduled to be released in (when else?) . . . June.
I was hoping it would be out sooner, what with it being done and all, but it looks likely that we will get the first show after it drops . . . I'm already excited to be the first person to hear some of those songs live, and I haven't even heard them yet!
i hope icky thump will come out before bonnaroo, so i can buy it and listen to it before then. even though i would probably download the leak if it didnt come out before so i got it to listen to on the car ride to roo. do you think they'll play alot of songs off of it?

Some how knowing that Bonnaroo is the first date of the Icky Thump tour (yet to be announced), I have a feeling it's going to be wild as hell. I just read that the album doesn't feature piano at all. It features syntheizers, garage rock, bagpipes, and trumpet, and latin rhythms. Not all at once, but at different points on the CD. Anyways, check out this article. Heres looking forward to Roo even further.

Wish they weren't in Europe on Friday, because they would make a wild Saturday late night. I just saw "Under Blackpool Lights" on Concert TV, and I gotta say, sick sick sick.

This new album looks pretty great. I've come to the theory that they are essentially evolving at half the speed that Led Zeppelin did. By this I mean that their self titled and De Stijl were essentially their Zeppelin I (earliest effort, least refined sounding, straight garage rock/blues), White Blood Cells and Elephant were their Zeppelin II (Still loud and simple rock and roll, but beginning to get more and more refined) and Get Behind Me Satan and Icky Thump should essentially be their Zeppelin III (getting super eclectic, using a lot of new, weird stuff in their music).
