If you don't know much about Girl Talk he is a mash-up DJ that uses anything and everything. I have a feeling this will be one of the more talk about sets at roo. Here is a link to a blog that has a live set of his and even shows what he is sampling. There are 2 pages to the blog, so I will give you both links:
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!

I'll definatly catch him if no one betters playing, but he seems like an act thatd be just as good, if not better, in a club or something like that. I have a feeling theres going to be someone who puts on a better roo show playing against him. I'd definatly be interested in hearing how his langerado set is though.

His first album, Secret Diary is horrible. His second album which I can't remember the name is decent. His third and most recent album, Night Ripper, is awesome, very fun and I've heard great things about him live.

i saw him live last semester and he was amazing. its just a giant dance party! he ends all his shows by singing nirvana songs! when i saw him the msoty memorable one was scentless apprentice
I am really digging Night Ripper alot. Although, honestly a dude pressing play on a laptop isn't exactly my idea of a great show, but I think I'll still check Girl Talk out if he's latenight, could see it being alot of fun.

I saw Girl Talk about a month ago in Cambridge, MA. It was a giant dance party -- I am banking on this being a late night set. Otherwise everyone is going to dehydrate and die. Pretty much everyone was drenched in sweat. Oh -- the most important part of a Girl Talk show (besides him stripping to his boxers and thrashing wildly behind his laptop) is fans getting onstage and dancing with Greg -- it's vital!
I think this will be a very talked about set once it's all said and done.
Ziggy, that's what I think about his show. I can see it being alot of fun and I love Night Ripper, but if an actual band where people are actually playing music is up against him, I'd probably skip Girl Talk.

My feelings exactly.^ I'm sure if i catch his show it will definatly be a good time, but im not gonna miss anyone for it. I'm not trying to put him down, i think hes very talented, and i love his music, but its not really a show i need to see at bonnaroo.
I mean, I enjoy a dance party as much as the next dude, but if I have to choose between a real live funky band or a dude with a computer, I think I'll take the band, that's all. I really dig the latest album though.
Personally I think Girl Talk is a joke but then again I probably shouldn't compare him to a real musician like DJ Shadow. Shows look like they could be fun but there would have to be NOTHING else going on for me to want to see this.

I saw Girl Talk in Columbus, and while it isn't much of a show to watch, it's hella fun to participate in. It's just a huge dance party, what else can you ask for?

i heard Night Ripper when it first came out and i loved it. i think Girl Talk is muy talented. However, you guys are saying that he only plays a previously made mash-up?? thats so wack. he doesnt mash up anything live? what kinda crap is that? judging by his sound, i was totally expecting him to be like Cut Chemist or DJ Shadow.
well, if you gys are right (and it sounds like you are) Girl Talk is kinda phony. and this is coming from someone that enjoys his music! boo to playing prerecorded mashups. if we wanted that, we could just listen to his CD. this doesnt seem like something Bonnaroo would book. he better bring some females with him and sing more than Nirvana if he wants to live up to the ROO!
if he is playing opposite Cut or Shadow, skip it. but if Cut is playing opposite Shadow, youre probably better off just killing yourself rather than dealing with THAT decision! heh

look i'm no purist here, but when we're talking about this type of music what greater goal is there than making people dance? and if thats the case, can you really knock an artist for playing pre-recorded mashups, or even mixing other artists material in a live format? does any of that really take away from the fact that when you hear it your feet start tapping, your head starts bobbing, and you just cant stop? ;D
if its important to people when seeing an artist live that the artist is actually creating the music at the same moment they're playing it, stay away from all DJs/electronica type acts, because everybody does it in that particular genre.

I think Girl Talk is incredibly creative, and talented, but not much of a musician. Not trying to bash on him, i like both Night Ripper and his old mash up stuff, but to people saying that hes gonna play a long set, listen to his other stuff, and you'll see that Night Ripper was really the only album like that, all his other stuff is mash up, and i dont think he'll be playing that at bonnaroo, so that should limit his set.
Actually, Girl Talk plays little to nothing from Night Ripper at his shows. He creates the mashups as he goes, sometimes using samples from the album, but almost never matching the samples the same as on the album. He could go for as long as he wanted, probably, because I saw him go for almost an hour and a half with only approx. ten samples I recognized from the album.
Hey, Jude, don't be afraid. You were made to go out and get her. The minute you let her under your skin, Then you begin to make it better.
And any time you feel the pain, Hey Jude, refrain. Don't carry the world upon your shoulders. Well don't you know that it's a fool who plays it cool By making his world a little colder.
