I'm beginning to think the answer to this question is no. Since the Flaming Lips last played Bonnaroo, they have grown exponentially in popularity. I have to believe that it would be pretty difficult to fit everyone who wants to see the Lips into one of those tents. Primus played a stage late night in 2004, and I think I can fairly say that the Lips are bigger than Primus has ever been at this point. (Nothing against Primus, I love them, but the Lips transcend genres.) Although it is not unheard of for acts to repeat late nights, it seems odd that STS9 and the Lips would both repeat in the same year.
On the other hand, Trey's Superjam last year was in a tent, and that was just fine. I'll be the happiest guy in the world if they do play late night, I'm just not convinced... and I saw them during the day at Lolla last year and it just wasn't the same.
I'm interested in everyone's thoughts on this subject.

I actually kinda hope they play during the day, because i'd like to see them. I'd see mule over them, and if SCI gets a latenight, id have to take them over the lips too. This is just because im not a huge fan, but big enough to want to see them. So i guess thats being a bit selfish, i would think their show to be much better latenight on which, so for all their fans, that is what i will wish for.
What happens if my tee shot lands on a bird's back and he carries it out of bounds but then is attacked by a larger bird who grabs the ball and drops it in the hole? Is that still a hole in one? 'Cause that's how I'm gonna play it.

Thus far Kliph (tour drummer) says he has not been informed as to what date and time they will be playing. Im sure he'll let all the fans know as soon as he finds out.
I was born in the back seat of a Yellow Cab in a hospital loading zone and with the meter still running. I emerged needing a shave and shouted 'Time Square, and step on it!
I saw them late night in 03. I can't recall what the stage was called, but it wasn't a tent and it was wide open. Anyone remember what stage that was? MMW was in a tent at the same time which sucked.

The lips were definatly in a tent in 03, but I can't remember if it w This or That Tent. I remember hordes of people crammed under the tent to avoid the rain. as for this year, I think the size of the crowd is irrelevant. The Lips HAVE to play on a stage because their stage show just won't fit in a tent anymore. They have a f-n Spaceship for Chrissake! I would love the Flaming lips Sat latenight on the Which Stage, but I could also see them doing a set during the day on the What Stage.
John: We don't even understand our own music Spider: It doesn't, does it matter whether we understand it? At least it'll give us . . . strength John: I know but maybe we could get into it more if we understood it

i'd like to see them on a stage, but i'm sure one of the tents would be fine. i mean look at how many people packed in for the superjam and mmj last year. and by looking at the small venues they are playing this spring, i'm sure they can adapt to whatever size stage they get put on. i mean, i saw them last summer at red rocks and there was no spaceship there.
i'm seeing them in april in norfolk and that place only holds 2000 max and the disco rodeo is waaaaaaaay smaller than the norva capacity wise.

The Lips probably wouldn't play Bonnaroo unless they played late night
last year they headlined langerado, they went on and it was broad daylight out. but the very end of they're set the sun had set. and i know more people have seen them else where during the day too.
Honestly, anytime of the day is great for me as long as it doesn't conflict with Manu Chao or the White Stripes. They've played all over the map schedule wise for other festivals and I've heard nothing but amazing things everytime. So late night is just a bonus.

They played an excellent set at Langerado, but I gotta say it would have been better at night.

Seems to me that most people think that they will play late night, or should, simply because they did last time. It's like the book/movie version of a story, whichever you read/saw first you'll most likely prefer over the other. In other words I think that The Flaming Lips would do just fine in the daytime, but it's difficult for us to picture because we've already got our image of them at nighttime. And I expect they won't play late night, mainly because they already have. That's my position.

ive only seen them play during the day, at ACL last year, and they did fine. But i can only imagine night. Theres no light show in the day.....and that is something i missed
Man... Tool>Lips... too much for my brain to handle. I might fall out.
I feel you on that one it would be a beautiful thing. That would be a great night for the party to go til sunrise with a DJ set after Lips from Sasha &Digweed in the same slot as Sasha had last year at 3.30 to 5.30.
