No offense Panic heads, but you guys get so defensive about your band. Panic is what they are and that's great people like that. But for me, it's a letdown to end with WSP. But I will simply leave early and no harm no foul.
Quote from easymorningrebel: "there will be no headliner on thursday"
Why not a headliner for Thursday this year if they are trying to get more bands to play. I think it would be great to see a major addition for the Thursday night (NIN, The Mars Volta???). That would start off the week with a huge, huge bang I think!
I thought thursday night was a vip-only thing?
There is fun for all in Centeroo on Thu, but by "Thu night headliner" I assume we're talking about the main stage? The back part of the main stage field is where the VIP pre-party has been held the past two years (including large temp stage which is gone by Fri morning). Who knows what each new year will bring, but in recent years the main stage field has been a 'vip-only thing' on Thu night. As long as that stays the same, there won't be a main stage act on Thu.

Not defending their headlining because I am a fan (actually I don't much care for them). But even though I don't like them, I still know for sure they will headline Sun and that will make a lot of other people happy. In 5 roo's I don't think I've ever been a fan of the closing artist/band, but that just means my "Headline" is an act I enjoy who is playing before the real "headliner", then crash out and sleep through WSP or whoever. Looks like ot will be the White Stripes for me this year, which is fine w/ me.

I tend to think they select a closer that won't keep everyone. Last year they did it with Phil Lesh. I overheard plenty of people who a) didn't know who he was or b) didn't care to see him again.
I was pleasantly surprised in 06 when about half the folks had already left by early morning.
I'd be shocked if they weren't headlining. There's not another band on the bill big enough to headline or play long enough to close out the festival.
I would say that the White Stripes are big enough to headline Sunday night. They have headlined a few big festivals and definitely have enough songs to fill up a 3+ hour set. That being said, I think that WSP will be the Sunday night headliner.
Also, I have a feeling that we are going to get a couple big additions, because the festival has not sold out yet, so Superfly will probably want to put a couple more names out there to sell out the festival. Not that I am complaining, since the line-up is already stacked, and I already know that I am not going to be able to see half the bands that I want to see. The double-edged sword that is "Artist Additions".
Panic is really awesome with Jimmy Herring... the best they've sounded in a loong time!! If you havent heard them you should definitely check them out... last day at roo before going back to the real world... what have you got to lose?? They have never disappointed at Roo in years past!!

Exactly what I was about to post. I have seen Panic many times, but only once with Herring. I got to see them at Vegoose last year and Herring tore it up!!
They sound great, and if your a Panic fan and have not seen them with Herring yet, you will certainly not be disappointed!

I have a lot of respect for Panic, but they just don't do it for me. I went to one of their shows a few months ago and I had a good time, but I don't like how they are booked as the headliner for, what seems like, every festival. Assuming Superfly/ AC want to keep the lineup fresh, it isn't the way to go.
What it boils down to is Widespread Panic sells alot of tickets in the SE, and is the biggest band left on the jamband scene. Bonnaroo started as a jamband fest, and will continue to be rooted in jambands.
Whether or not you agree with the decision to have WSP headline every fest, you have to understand that these are the reasons they are consistently a headliner.

I definately see where you are coming from. If Phish got back together for a reunion show in the SE, and they scheduled the show the same weekend as a three night WSP run in ATL or Macon, GA, the WSP show would probably sell out first. I'm just not that into their stuff, which fuels my discontent for their headlining spot. I saw them on New Years, though. Great show! I know I'll have fun, but I would prefer to see someone else in that spot; however, they really are the most popular jam band of the region so it isn't a wonder why SF/AC chose them.

" No chance in hell wsp would sell out before the Phish. If Phish decided to reunite in Alabama it would still sell out faster than panic. I have nothing against panic at all, am a huge fan, but Phish coming back would just be on a different level imo. I remember trying to get tickets to NYE and Hampton when they came back from hiatus and how crazy that was, and getting back together after Trey's, uh, problems would be even more legendary. Off topic, but just my two cents.

WSP is headlining. If you don't like them, be glad it's one night and not two. If you like them, be happy that Superfly's put together a lineup with major special guest potential for WSP set on Sunday. It will no doubt be a memorable one for fans.

You're a fool.
Take it easy, man. Breathe...Goose-frabba, goose-frabba....I think it will be a great show because of all the acts they are going to end up playing with. But don't bash people because of your opinion.
Last year on thursday night I remember waiting in a massive crowd at the arch to get in to see electric eel shock. They wouldn't let us in. I walked around thursDAY in centeroo but I couldn't get in thursday night. I just assumed it was a vip thing. Can anyone tell me what's up?
I'm not a Panic fanatic by any means, but I think it's great that bonnaroo is making sure to hold onto its jamband roots. I don't think panic would ever sell out faster than a Phish reunion. Granted, they may both sell out I predict a Phish reunion would sell out in or around ten minutes from the tickets going on sale. Just be happy with panic. They're a great band. Not my cup of tea (or alot of other peoples for that matter), but I'm excited to see what they've got planned for the main stage on sunday.
"That's the big thing about education. People can be book smart, but not really intelligent about anything else. A lot of times they just taking in all this information and regurgitate it. It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."

??? ??? ???
I can only assume you were just in a long line at the entrance (which seems unlikely on Thursday) or you were inadvertanly in a line trying to get into the VIP camping section...somehow. That's really weird though, man. I can't believe you missed out on all the Thursday festivities!
