Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
i know they are big world wide. but at roo if they were a latenight against umph/bisco, my morning jacket, grab, mule, flaming lips, sts9 or string cheese/keller incident they would probably have the smaller crowd against all of these groups. at bonnaroo anyhow. now coachella, lolla, or euro-fests would have a different outcome. just seems like tool would have fit nicely in a latenight tent and a different headliner that seemed to appeal to the normal roo attendee a little more would have pleased me. but thats just how i see it. i understand the need to sell tix and get free mainstream advertising by having radio bands at roo.
When people see how intense and mind-blowing the visual aspect of a Tool show is, heads will turn. I EMPLORE you not to miss out on the spectacle of the visual aspect of the show simply b/c you aren't into the heaviness of the music. If you only stay for one song, do yourself a favor and check it out.
I will see them on 5/15 and I will try to take bring my camera and report back with some pictures. Hopefully I can get it in. From reading this thread, I honestly think people do not understand how amazing the visual aspect of the show is.
It is so psychedelic it is BY FAR the the most psychedelic stage production of ANY of the Bonnaroo artists.
i hope a lot of people go to the other shows .... i have seen mule and ws, sts 9 and the rest so many times (well tool too) but i wont miss tool for anyone that might be playing ... well if they were against the police thats not true, but that wont happen .... it is like tripping when you are not at times .... cr**** plus check out the transgression festival in the mountains .. that where we will catch umph and bisco ... saw lips 3 times last year also so they are not in contention .. i wouldnt care if it were just my gal, and a few of our friends lol ...peace
only a single band on the lineup would ruin my bonnaroo.. so im not going to see that band
ps (and no, rage did not ruin coachella..
pss (the nightwatchman was one of the best shows all weekend expecially when perry ferrall and boots riley (from the coup) came out to play the last song, a litty ditty called This Land is Your Land by Woody Guthrie ;D )
DO NOT MISS THE NIGHTWATCHMAN it WILL BE THE SHOW OF THE WEEKEND
I saw some of that show on youtube - I would agree, it looks like one not to miss. I'll be the guy in the back. With the beer. A one man revolution in microbrews.

The funny thing about this thread is so many people talk about the "Tool fans" like they are going to act and look different from anyone else. It made my year when Tool were announced as a headliner (I had predicted it months before but no one wanted to hear that they could actually fit in at Roo).
I am a HUGE Tool fan. I also love the Dead, Phish, all other jam bands, and most music (with the exception of country and rap). I am a 40 year old female who will be bringing her teenage daughter and I will look like every other aging hippie there with my long flowing hippie skirt and big grin on my face. I am there for the music, the diversity, and the cool people and I guarantee you that most of the Tool fans are there for the same reasons.
The only thing Tool is going to do is blow people away with their live show

like i said earlier and i started the thread, ALL Tool fans are not the same, like any band, even the dead ... but when you think of the old lilth festival, do you picture a lot of the people looking the same, or "everyone" different ... just a small point in a big festival .. cr****

its hard to complain about roo. it will be the party of the year no matter what. but sometimes there are minor complaints.
I disagree as well. The "normal" roo attendee has changed quite a bit recently. In fact, I'm not sure there is such a thing as a normal roo attendee. Sure there's quite a few jam band fanatics, I myself am one of them however, I have a hard time even fathoming the though of an Umphrey's McGee late night set drawing a larger crowd than Tool. . . ever. The facts are that Tool is one of the greatest touring bands in the nation, and hands down the most psychedelic since Pink Floyd. I do realize there is a strong fanbase who would be perfectly satisfied with a steady lineup consisting of jam band, after jam band, and the occasional indie, or hip hop artist but man can not survive on jammage alone. If The Dead, DMB, and WSP headlined every year there wouldn't be anything special about going. I mean, sure the sets would be great but after a while you'd start wondering why you're shelling out 200 dollars year after year for the same old thing.
While bonnaroo started out as a grassroots/jamband festival they're constantly becoming more diverse and I don't see how anyone can be upset about that. I'm glad they're keeping it fresh, and pulling out names like tool and radiohead to keep blowing our minds and I'm glad they're bringing them in as top dogs, because that's where they deserve to be.
Is it possible for The Police to ruin Bonnaroo, because they aren't a jam band like so many others? How about Gogol Bordello? They're pretty high energy. Very high energy at that. Are they gonna ruin Bonnaroo?
Hell no. There's only one thing that can ruin Bonnaroo. Only YOU can ruin Bonnaroo for yourself. Just like most things... It's what you make of it!
ive often wondered about a hurricane that came ashore in just the right way. that would probably really ruin roo. short of that i cant imagine anything outside of terrorism ruining roo. well the police (as in law enforcement) could ruin it. but that falls under terrorism in my book.
Coachella is the indie/electronica fest, Warped tour is the punk/alternative fest, Ozzfest is the straight up metal fest. Bonnaroo, though, is just the music fest and if you ask me, the more the merrier, be it jam, hip hop or metal.
The point of this was???? Maynard tried to get them to back up and the article goes on to say that it happened at the same festival for AFI (of all bands)
Not to get off topic or contradict what you've said (I heart you guys, Megan AN Boz), but you probably don't know what kind of band AFI was before their major label metamorphosis. They had like five albums before that, and they were one of the most hardcore punk bands around (without descending into straight-up hardcore, as opposed to hardcore punk...seriously, there's a difference). I'm sure the trampling happened after they turned soft, but think about all those 16 year old girls that had to see them then! That's worse than a bunch of 16 year old punks.
LOL - actually I do know what kinda band they were - my daughter loves AFI and I have to say - she liked them "before", I just cannot convince her that they sold out to commercialism and money - oh well - she is a Green Day and MCR fan also

Yeah, they used to kick so much ass when I was a little high school punk rocker. I can still listen to Black Sails in the Sunset just fine, but that new stuff, from Sing the Sorrow on, it's just sad. Seeing Davey Havoc on MTV is f ucked up, he signed my "I Hate Fred Durst" shirt with a pentagram at Warped when I was a Junior in high school! At least he finally came out of the closet.
Green Day's always been poppy, though. Part of their charm!
the thought that tool would ruin 'roo is just ridiculous. I don't understand people thinking tool is a thrash band. They're not. If you actually listened to it, you'd know. I consider it great music to work to, especially artwork, with complex lyrics and themes and music. It's truly amazing stuff when you let it sink in. It's not metal. I find their music to be absorbing and I cannot wait to feel that at Bonnaroo.
I also like RATM, but I like it because it does make me want to MOVE. I can appreciate the anger and the anti-government sentiments. It's adrenaline music.
So, Tool = mind music. Rage = adrenaline music. Two very different things, and although i would personally love to see RATM, it would be a scary element at Bonnaroo with hordes of people getting full of adrenaline, possibly in a bad way.
And kudos to the guy that mentioned wolfmother. We bought that CD this weekend and this will be an excellent show at roo.
There is so much music at bonnaroo, not one single act can ruin it. Although Avril Lavigne could probably come pretty close.

TOOL wont ruin bonnaroo... their fans will. well not all of them, just the obvious ones. i think whats his name is right, this is show is more of a commitment.
ive been listening to more tool lately - to get in the mood. I still feel they have a dark slant that is different than just about every other band at roo. "i want to watch things die...from a distance" is not a lyric you're going to hear from Ratdog, for instance.
i've been wondering about the Police impact, but i think thier fans are not likely to grab a tent and schlep ass to Tennessee. I think that crowd will be well-represented in VIP though...and I don't know if that's really a bad thing
wow you took that lyric way out of context. Hes not up there saying "everyone kill stuff cause i want to see it". Hes more making a statement on our society.

Tool is our generations version of Pink Floyd. Not worried about what media thinks of them, there music has continually evolved throughout the bands life, and they are both very very visual in there music more than any other band out right now. Now would you people be happy to see a Pink Floyd reunion at Roo? I just think we will look back when Tool does disband, and we will say that Tool was the closest to being a Pink Floyd for our generation. Once again though this is MY OPINION.
"That's the big thing about education. People can be book smart, but not really intelligent about anything else. A lot of times they just taking in all this information and regurgitate it. It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."
