Well, last year was my only year, and every show I saw was good, and was expected to be. But if I had to pick one surprise, it'd be Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!. Now, I was a fan of their first album prior to going to Bonnaroo, but I had never heard them live. I didn't really think they sounded like a band that would be great live. Turned out to be great. And there were tons of people there singing along with me, nice concert. Nice surprise.

2004 - Yonder Mountain String Band (I don't really like bluegrass but, DAMN!!!) 2006 - Steel Pulse (Only caught the lsat half of their set. What I saw was incredible!)
What happens if my tee shot lands on a bird's back and he carries it out of bounds but then is attacked by a larger bird who grabs the ball and drops it in the hole? Is that still a hole in one? 'Cause that's how I'm gonna play it.

were you the one on stage, or just in the front row??
but, in response to the thread ... i didn't expect radiohead to be as good as they were, like was said above, I went in thinking it would be good, but it was nothing short of a religious experience, IMO.
Buddy Guy, I mean, I love his stuff, have always have. But I figured since he's in his later years he'd just kind of take it easy, boy was I wrong. The guy was more active than half the act I saw, got off stage and jammed in the crowd... man, I was impressed. Wish I'm that lively when I'm that old
2003- Neil Young. I knew a lot of his stuff, but that set was unbelievable, most people don't talk about it for some reason and its been conspicuously left off roo cds and dvds. 2004 - I had never seen Umphrey's before, and there latenight show with moe. blew me away. Ended up wandering over to Praxis later, then back for more umphreys. Highlight of my weekend. Along with David Byrne.
First act on Thursday night at my first Roo. I was still trying to work out what was going down and found myself in the midst of this amazing set. It's still the boot that I listen to the most.

Forgot about Mr. Byrne....that was also WAYYYYY better than expected.
For honourable mention I say Steel Pulse and Cypress hill
The winner for me had to of been Toubab Krewe. I went in knowing they would at least put on a good show but they ROCKED the place. Top 5 shows of Roo last year

2006 - Atmosphere: Slug has such an original style of rapping and every single beat is good. Great rap if you're looking for something new. Death Cab For Cutie: they were just alot harder than what I excpected. Their drummer is nuts. My Morning Jacket: only because this is where I discovered this band

2004: DaveMatthews n pals........Always made fun of him but i was dancing out to it. Yonder mountain string band.......never heard of em and had the time of my life. 2006: Seu Jorge, didn't really like what i heard on his website but totally dug the live performance. Oysterhead...I knew it was gonna be cool, but holy shoot!! mind blowing stuff.

^Yeah, Oysterhead was by far my favorite show of the weekend. They're one of my favorite groups just because their live shows are unbelievable. That show on the mainstage only reinforced my opinion. Plus I was right up front, so how much better could it have gotten?

2002 - Keller Williams String Cheese Incident (broke my roo cherry) Les Claypools Flying Frog Brigade
2003- Flaming Lips (played Floyd to a projecter screen of Wizard of house) The Roots (largest crowd to dat they played for, 40,000 white kids pumping their fists to TENNESSEE---TENNEESEE)
2004-Dave and Friends (with Trey and Tim Reynolds on stage....Hey Bulldog, Waste, Bathtub Gin, FIRE, Un on Sollsibury Hill......Man...Hit after Hit...Great show)
2005 - Too many to list (The Musics geeting better...and more bands are treating Bonnaroo as "the superbowl of live performances". THE FRAMES, Tea Leaf Green, John Butler Trio playing Oceans.....Xavier RUdd, RAY LAMONTAGNE almost in tears while playing, and of course The Jurrasic Five repeating, if not doubling the crowd at the Which stage!
2006 - Bright Eyes bringing up Jim James, Gillian Welch, David Rawlings, Toubab Krewe Thursday Night, Jackie Green Early afternoon, and everyone late night from the most epic concert I've seen up cloise MY MORNING JACKEt, to a late night, late night SASHA RAVE.
I've seen epic concerts for the last six years......Bonnaroo has instilled passion in me.
98 percent of the bands are better then you expect!
"We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, movie gods, and rock stars. But we wont, and we're slowly learning that fact & we're very, very pissed off......."

why were you up front for the streets if you weren't expecting much? seems like there would be somewhere else to be if that was the case, not camping out for a band i didn't like
