Launch Radio Networks reports: TOOL keeps tacking shows onto its current North American tour, which now extends into mid-July. According to LiveDaily.com, the quartet has added concerts in Montreal; Boston; Portland, Maine; Fort Worth, Texas and others to its schedule. The trek, which began in late April with two nights in Las Vegas, was postponed from March after drummer Danny Carey tore his bicep in an accident at home.
The band has also booked another festival date, at Milwaukee's Summerfest, to add to its mid-June appearance at Tennessee's Bonnaroo event. Danny Carey told Launch that TOOL approaches festivals differently from its own shows. "It's this whole different vibe when you play at a festival," he said. "People have already had to go through so much, you know, especially if you're headlining. By the time you're on, you know, you don't wanna just drive them into the ground, you know. I think in those cases less is more, so we're happy just to play more rocking, straight ahead songs and not get too tedious 'cause it's not that kind of an environment. We'll save that for our own shows."

basically he is saying that they will tone it down and just play the hits. meaning not much experimentation or long jams. which is the opposite of the vibe of bonnaroo. i hope that is just bullshit. i was hoping they would do something different for bonnaroo.

But this is catering to the fans of opiate, undertow, anemia, etc. If they are playing more of the tracks from those albums I will be very happy just for the fact that they do not play those songs on a regular basis. I promise you they will have some more of there mind expanding tracks in the setlist, with more of an empasis on playing tracks that might not be played on there 10000 days tour. Just my two cents.
"That's the big thing about education. People can be book smart, but not really intelligent about anything else. A lot of times they just taking in all this information and regurgitate it. It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."
With all the videos and the lights and nuts that's going on, it'd probably be pretty hard for them to just decide on the spur of the moment to jam it out, too. That sucks. If they don't get deep, intense, and tripped out, that's just gonna make all the naysayers think they were right.

Hopefully he's bullshitting.
well yea, even their "jams" are kind of rehearsed. bands say they have to do that to choreograph with the stage show. but what he said about not wanting to beat someone ever the head after they have been there all day is just weak. bring it. that's what you should do at a festival. play your best.

"kind of" rehearsed .... from everytime i have seen them in the last few years, the stage show is such a part of the overall show, i wonder if anything is really unrehearsed .... cr***
Yeah, I know bands have allotted times for solos and all that, but it seems like Tool couldn't really even just decide to play a song that wasn't on their setlist. Does anyone know of them deciding out of nowhere to just go ahead and play No Quarter?
I agree with you, too...it's just Friday night anyway! Maybe they wouldn't want to beat us over the head on Sunday night, but we're just getting revved up on Friday. If they don't watch it, Sound Tribe's gonna make them look silly. Hell, some people already think they will, but I have hope for my boys in Tool.

i wasn't even expecting them to jam that much or play something spontaneous like that, because they don't do that. but what i was hoping for was for them pull out their most progressive, psychedellic stuff for bonnaroo. not for them to take the easy route and just play the hits. that's why i'm upset about it. if sat. wasn't so good this could make me change my mind about going, because my hopes for the tool show at bonnaroo was my main reason for going.
Tool has never played bonnaroo, though. There is a vibe and an aura flowing through that place. You can't help but have it over take you. I've seen it happen to countless bands, and I don't think Tool will be an exception.

But what I'm saying is, if he's serious about them just wanting to be straightforward, there's gonna be no turning back once they start playing, even if Jerry Garcia himself comes down from the sky and kisses Maynard on the forehead.

i don't think it means they are going to just play stuff from opiate and undertow. that's the most straight ahead stuff they have. and deciding to do that at bonnaroo wouldn't be a good idea at all. i think it means hits/singles only set. which means those hoping for longer set will be let down as well.

It almost sounds like Tool (or at least Danny) are severly undersestimating Roo. That blurb would work just fine for Coachella or ACL, where sets are 1hr - 1 1/2 hr tops. But Tool will have at least 2-2 1/2 to play. They can't just fill that with just the hits.

the thing is they played an amazing set at the first coachella. they played some songs they rarely play, they played different versions of songs that were played that show and never played again and they covered 2 songs from justin's old band. this is what i was wanting for bonnaroo. something different like that.
I wonder what day Tool is playing the other festival, how far along it is in the festival. Maybe they'll realize they're just playing Friday at Bonnaroo, and we haven't "gone through" anything at that point (relatively).
Aenima's my favorite album, so I'm fine with them sticking with that. Just as long as we get Third Eye and Eulogy, I'm cool. But, if they don't play at least two hours, there are going to be some unhappy campers. I wouldn't be too offended, but some people would be, I think.
Maybe we should all start writing them letters and e-mails, begging them to drive us into the ground with long, meandering songs.

EDIT: Or maybe I'm worrying about nothing.
i think that summerfest thing is july 4. yea the way danny sounds there they may not even play as long as they usually do. there will be some very upset campers. but maybe, he is just talking about summerfest. and i am worrying over nothing. hopefully that is what he was talking about.
they know what we're doing but they don't really care. i mean they admit they are a selfish band, they play for themselves but that's the way it should be anyway.
As studious as they are, though, I'd imagine at least one of them has looked into this "Bonnaroo" thing they're gonna be playing. Surely they have some idea of what it's like.
Otherwise, I'm still down with Poopzilla. At least then we'd know they know.
