We should make flyers stating that all people going to see Tool to chant Third Eye in between songs. Maybe if we press it enough they will play a very very rare song live for us. Let us unite for this cause roovians!

It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."

no, you will just annoy them i would think. They aren't the type of band to just play something off the cuff.

I really hope that Superfly paid them extra amount to no matter what make it a special set for the Bonnaroo festival, or to at least make it the marquee show of the year for Tool. Can we all just hope and have the good vibes spread to Maynard and the boys.

Forgive me for being unknowing, but is it impossible to think that they might play Eulogy? I've yet to see a Tool show, so I have no idea.
If they dont open with Jambi and then go into Stinkfist, then anything is possible.
I saw them play Eulogy twice during the Lateralus tour, so its not like they never play it. If they deviate from the regular setlist at all then Eulogy is probably a top contender for one of the songs they would throw in.

Man, I would have loved to see Eulogy. When I saw them on the Lateralus tour they opened with Sober and went into The Grudge, which was still really awesome, but damn...Eulogy is such a great song.
why do I get the feeling that maynard is a little into himself. Why is he so touchy with his fans...that pay to go see him?
I can understand why you think that, I think to alot of people that arent completly (for lack of a better word) obsessed with Tool have a hard time understanding what is so special, and furthermore think Maynard is a bit of a dick.
Its one of those things where you cant judge a book by its cover, its hard to figure out who Maynard really is, and he does that on purpose, but if you look hard enough, and spend enough time and open your mind a little, you can get a sense of where is he coming from.

I would say a lot of his angst comes from his experiences in the armed forces. Question for spacefunk, it seems like you have a lot of great info and links to stuff associated with Tool, by any chance would you send or link me too some of the most detailed articles/interviews/websites that really dig deep into Tool as a band? I would really like to listen/read an in depth interview of them and/or introspective of the band. Thanks.

This will be my first Tool experience and not being a die hard fan but still a listener I am looking forward to it and honestly will be happy if they play anything. That being said, all this talk about Maynard, with all do respect, kind of makes him seem like a little bit of an ass. I guess that goes with the type of music he's making. I understand he's all about playing just for the sake of playing and does it for himself. But that shouldn't be the only reason, in my opinion, why your in music. I'm a musician and I love nothing more than to please fans. If a bunch of fans want some song played more than anything I'll give it to them. Sure I'll tease them and make them sweat and die and get down on there knees and beg until finally when they least expect it.... I'll bust it out. But still I play for my music AND the fans. Please correct me on this one if I'm wrong.

I think its more when the fans get personal with it. For instance, had the guy yelled "tool" instead of "maynard" all might have been good (im purely speculating here though). They are trying really hard to seperate the music from themselves. They feed off fans energy, i've seen it twice, but they want the journey to be with them, not about them. Take fred durst, and flip it 180.

I have to leave my house but I'll talk more latter. Thanks for the video spacefunk but that kinda made me more confused and think he's kinda more... like confused about himself and what he thinks...i get the whole....hate corporate america and stuff....just seems like he has no love in him at all...or is in denial...you know hate comes from love...everything begins with love whether you realize it or not. Discussion to be continued....later. point is...he seems like an ass.....with good music haha. But I'm open to explore more and will definitely be attending tool at bonnaroo.
Alot of what is perceived as him being an ass, stems from the fact that for so long he has tried so hard (and done a damn good job) at not letting anybody know who he really was. For years he and the rest of the band could stand unnoticed in the crowd for the opening band, and his interviews are no different then his stage presence. He does not like journalists (for many good reasons) and so often he gives these smart ass answers to their questions because he feels that is all they deserve. You can tell when he does like an interviewer however because he really opens up sometimes, though its rare and usually only happens when the person asking the questions isnt trying to profit from ripping apart his life through analyzing and assuming...
"They won't break me because the desire for freedom, and the freedom of the Irish people, is in my heart. The day will dawn when all the people of Ireland will have the desire for freedom to show. It is then that we will see the rising of the moon."
I dont think its about "what they deserve", its that he doesnt want to spoon feed, or force feed rather, anyone into thinking anything about the music. I've read some interviews where they enjoy it when someone presents an idea about a song and what it means to them and its totally different from anything they thought of while writing the song. Therefore, when he gets pigeon holed with a "what is lateralus about" question, he isnt even going to think of answering seriously.

he seems like a bit of a douce, but then again, when you are getting interviewed by a bunch of people asking the same (or similar) dopey questions day in and day out, what do you expect...
i was listening to 10000 days yesterday, and was thinking tool is a lot like the simpsons. some fans laugh when homer is hit on the head with a brick and other fans laugh at the social commentary. tool seems to knowingly construct songs so that if you listen to all the lyrics, they are meaningful. However, if you dont bother digging, you can just happily sing the chorus and (it seems to me) have a very different impression of the track.
