I'm going to give my top three because 5-20 stick out really high as well. There wasn't a single band I saw that felt below average.
1) The Hold Steady - Craig Finn was the most energetic and entertaining frontman at the festival, I had more fun here than at any other point - ever so closely followed by.. 2) Mavis Staples - there wasn't a soul anywhere near this tent that wasn't clapping and dancing along with a huge smile on their face 3) Rodrigo y Gabriela - so much energy and talent, everything was fresh and I was in love already on Thursday night - I don't think I met anyone who didn't say they were one of their favorite, if not favorite, bands of weekend
Wilco, Gillian Welch, The Flaming Lips, The National, The Decemberists, Ziggy Marley, and The White Stripes were near the top as well.
Tool would have been a top band for me, but I just wasn't feeling any stage presence at all from them. The light show and videos were cool, the vocals were crisp and intense, the instrumentation was excellent, but I was much more entertained by the leads and bands in general of the others listed above, so it's based on general "live performance". If I was only listening to all of these as live recordings, Tool would probably place high as well.
The Police sounded decent, but were probably the greatest disappointment and, along with Tool, looked like they were having the least fun of anyone at the festival. Just doing their thing and ready to jet when they think they satisfied enough. I'm pleased to see a number of people did enjoy them a lot though, so it was worthwhile for them to be there.

1. Tool - My 1st Tool show and they were everything I was expecting and more. Just wow!! I am still in total awe.
2. John Butler Trio - This was the closest I got to any of the stages and even though it was a short set it was an amazing one. Again my 1st time seeing them and they exceeded all my expectations.
3. White Stripes - Great live show, Jack is just awesome and I loved that they did some of their new stuff.
4. Flaming Lips - Talk about sensory overload!! Damn so much fun - I was just grinning the whole time.
5. Ben Harper - Seen him before but was unfamiliar with his music, this time was much better. I didn't see the whole show but what I saw was just wonderful.

1.Flaming Lips (Wayne Coynes banter alone made it fun for me) 2.Black Keys (Rocked harder than anyone I saw at Bonnaroo) 3.Xavier Rudd (Danced harder than at any show at Bonnaroo) 4.White Stripes (Always enjoy a White Stripes show) 5.Superjam (could this go wrong at all anyways)

Let Downs 1) Police (did they play for 1.5 hrs? and it was just another stop on their tour...i guess Sting didn't get the memo that this was Bonnaroo) 2) Tool (great light show and great images, too bad the audio sucked at the stage and it felt short again for a headliner...and the vibe was weird..not very roo) 3) Regina Spektor (not her fault, audio was garbage and she was being blown away by the Troo music lounge i think..i couldn't her half the songs) 4) Comedy tent ( WTF... huge lines...people dying in the heat, the tent didn't even feel air conditioned)
1). the hold steady <-- if you were there, there's NO WAY it doesn't make your list. they brought 100 tons of rock and hit us over the head with it.
2). Flaming lips <-- my first flips show; incredible stage show. "thank you!"
3). Gillian Welch <-- When David Rawlings covered "To be Young (is to be sad, is to be high)", it was absolutely madness.
4). franz ferdinand <-- not just because they brought the rock (and their newer stuff i hadn't heard before was really good), but because of the sheer hilarity of seeing some dude in a pink suit in the VIP/celebrity covered area just to the left of the stage totally going nuts for their entire set, dancing and twirling like Mick Jagger.
5). The Decemberists! <-- they played the freaking Tain!!! And the Mariner's Revenge Song! And The Weight with Mavis Staples! Wolfmother got totally owned.
We treat mishaps like sinking ships and I know that I don't want to be out to drift Well I can see it in your eyes like I taste your lips and They both tell me that we're better than this
