1. John Butler Trio - Closest I got to the big stage, and I've been wanting to see him live for years. 2. Old Crow Medicine Show - My friends and I were dancing like maniacs, they put on a fantastic show. 3. North Mississippi Allstars - I guess everyone else was at the White Stripes for the end of this, but I ended up real close toi the stage and was dancing like crazy, the whole crowd was really into it. 4. Ween - I love these guys. 5. The Richard Thompson Band - They rocked.
I was really excited to see the Police, but the show just didn't seem loud enough from where I was. I was pretty much in the same spot for Tool and it was way louder.
Ben Harper was awesome, as were Gov't Mule and the Lips. I pretty much enjoyed everything I saw.

1. The Hold Steady
Holy crap, this was the mother of all shows. Most amazing live experience I have ever had - I was three rows back and dead center. The band came out to an enthusiastic crowd, and looked really surprised, and the energy level of the performance skyrocketed. Craig Finn threw his cold beer into the audience, it felt awesome. After the show I felt like someone had given me a pure shot of rock and roll into my jugular. Here's to hoping that attblueroom will put it up in the archives.
2. Tool
The sound was amazing, I have no clue what people are compaining about. At least in front of the soundstage, I felt like the pure metal power was going to crush me into dust. The lightshow was incredible, Maynard was hilarious, and the crowd was pumped as hell (also don't know why people are complaining).
3. Tortoise
I never would have thought post-rock could be so great live. Well, I take that back - Explosions in the Sky are great live. But this was amazing as well. Great innovative use of two drummers, and the surreal guitar solos and neat bell effects escalated this to one of my favorite shows.
4. El-P
If you were up front for this show, you would have it in your top 5. El Producto had us jumping, despite the giant dust clouds it created. He absolutely toasted the tracks he spit out. Never knew a hip hop show could be so dense, atmospheric, and theatrical.
5. Wilco
The show was mellow for the most part. People were tired, it was hot, etc. But the band enjoyed themselves, and a kinetic energy started to accumulate halfway through the set, culminating in their rocking performance of "Spiders (Kidsmoke)". The encore was absolutely heartwarming.

1) Tool (face melted with this set with the help of the great musicianship, and some pizza toppings).
2) Galactic (now this is what hip hop is all about, not that bull$hit you see in the mainstream, this set was just awe inspiring especially in front of the soundboard).
3) Rod y Gab (what a surprise, I think I would of skipped these guys if I wasnt with my group, and all I have to say is that this was the most rocking acoustic/guitar drumming/finger picking I have seen)
4) Superjam (that was a rocking party the whole entire time, there version of Superstition was awesome)
5) The Flaming Lips (I was probably a little over a 100 feet from the stage and all I have to say is that UFO was absolutly amazing)
Honorable Mentions: DJ Shadow (that was some crazy visuals), The White Stripes, Ziggy Marley, Ben Harper, Govt Mule (of what I saw of them), and The Roots (they would be higher up but I was in pretty rough shape for this show and I will apologize for the people that my friend accidently ran over while we were trying to get out of there)
"That's the big thing about education. People can be book smart, but not really intelligent about anything else. A lot of times they just taking in all this information and regurgitate it. It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."

1. Rodrigo Y Gabriela . . . Wow. What a way to kick things off. Best crowd experience the whole weekend.
2. The White Stripes . . . our generation's monster band. In 2030 Jack White will get the type of attention that John Paul Jones got this weekend.
3. Widespread m'fn Panic! . . . I've been to a lot of Panic shows since my girlfriend is a major fan. I've always had a good time but never loved a show. This was the first time I really loved a Panic show.
The 1-2 ending punch of the White Stripes and Panic saved the weekend for me. It would have gotten a C- or a D without this monster double finish.
4. Girl Talk . . . something about 10,000 festies bouncing hardcore to Kelly Clarkson's "Since You Been Gone" . . .only at roo.
5. Ben Harper . . . hard to believe this guy still keeps getting better every year. A perfect roo show as the sun (finally) went down.
I only caught the last 10 minutes for Mavis but loved it. I fell asleep during Richard Thompson but the music was so good it was the best sleep I had all weekend. The 10 minutes I caught of Feist really impressed me but had to go get a spot for the Stripes.

What the hell was with the awkward Police guitar jams?
yeah.... what was with these>?!?!! they would play a song for 5 mins, go into a horrendous jam, and then start playing the same song again. three or four songs in a row, after the jam parts, my friends & i would turn to each other and ask "didn't they already play this song?!"
i'm going where the sun keeps shining, thru' the pouring rain, going where the weather suits my clothes. backing off of the north east wind, sailing on summer breeze, and skipping over the ocean like a stone.

I tried to warn everyone about the Police's horrible "Jams", but everyone smited me and called me an asshole (like every post i make, what the hell people?). I'd dig it up but i'm too lazy.

I love how you post. I try to give you karma every now and then for being straight forward. I wish I had seen your post about the Police, it would have prepared me for the huge Roxanne letdown I had :\

Yeah but Sting solo shows have massive extended jams that are flawless. I hoped the music savant in him and Stewart would have no problem working it out. Perhaps Andy was the weak link?

haha, thanks guys. sometimes people don't get the fact that i'm just being dry. i take comfort in the fact that lewis black would probably have -30 karma if he posted on here.

haha, well said. Which Lewis black show did you go to? I was at the first one, had a pretty good seat, the crowd loved him. It was awesome to see him live, he is by far my favorite comedian.
