Give me Tiësto!!! Although a DJ act such as Tiësto, Paul Van Dyk, or Armin Van Buuren would not fit the agenda of many faithful jam purists, I believe these DJs would provide a similar late night "dance your balls off 'till the sun comes up" experience that Sasha & Digweed have in the past, keeping in line with an extremely popular aspect of bonnaroo. The continual increase in popularity of electronica/techno/trance among the jam scene is becoming more apparent and accepted. Bands like Lotus (who I would also love to see at roo) and STS9 come to mind.
I'm gonna go through some groups already in this post (who cares about originality!).
*Daft Punk... fo sho! *STS9... THEY GOTTA PLAY... wtf would a music fest this big be without STS9? *Tiesto... him + Daft punk, for the ultimate tour in french electronic! *Sasha & Digweed... I missed them last year and everyone said they were amazing, sooooo I'll see them this time. *RATATAT... if you want to count them as electronic sure! Though I've seen them live, they aren't mind blowing... BUT, they brought it despite one of the main guys having a bad case of the flu.
I am all about an electronica tent! That would be AMAZING!! And it would be one hell of a dance party
I don't think Roo is changing. It's supposed to be about a celebration of the diversity of music. I don't think a jam band festival would be that interesting...the same 20 bands who have played bonnaroo like 4 or 5 times is just as lame as having a bunch of run-of-the-mill "walmart" bands. Bonnaroo's NOT like Lolla and it's not like Coachella. Having only Jam bands would make it boring and monotonous too. I think the diversity of music is what makes Bonnaroo special - I'm sure that Superfly will book amazing acts that make the What stage "special".
I saw BT live during his This Binary Universe Tour.... He had the whole show synced up really well to the visuals and it was quite a unique experience.... That being said it was kinda like jerkin it without getting off. All kinds of builds and swells but no explosion just more blips n squeaks , rinse n repeat. Worth seeing once on DVD but kinda lame in concert.
As for Tiesto. F*ck that. I'm not knocking his live show or his skills as a Dj and performer but its time we listen some fresh acts. Dj's like Paul van Dyk, Armin van Buuren, and Tiesto, are all legends whose contribution to the electronic dance music scene has been invaluable. They have been around for ages and when they perform its basically like running through the motions , its never new, diverse, special, or imo fun. Its basically all the same 4 to the floor Pop Trance that is extremely well marketed and thus popular. When you go see a Tiesto show your basically paying for a popular name brand of trance, where as other DJ's who are younger and more exciting simply can't get that recognition because the Tiesto's are so well established. (Tiesto spun the opening ceremony for the Olympics, thats f*king exposure) I've seen all these DJ's numerous times and it is always a lackluster performance.. I could name dozens of amazing DJ's off the top of my head that deserve more recognition and put on better shows. All that being said its difficult to deny somebody their taste in music. Some people simply prefer Trance to House, or Electro, or w/e. Tastes in music are as varied as assh*les are smelly....
A small list of DJ who I know are dope... Carl Cox, Moby, Danny Tenaglia, Armand van Helden, Mylo, James Zabiela, Justice, Teenage Bad Girl, Simian Mobile Disco, Tiga, Rex the Dog, The Chemical Brothers, The Crystal Method, Fatboy Slim, Acid Girls, Curses, Blamma Blamma, Deadmau5, D.I.M., Filthy Rich, Micky Slim, Funkagenda, Tocadisco, Chris Lake, Eric Morillo, Fedde Le Grand, Sander Kleinenberg.... etc
A personal favorite of mine is this Danish guy named Anders Trentemoller, I honestly believe he is the bes producer that we will ever live to see watch and i guarantee you will want to see him live

I really do not think Tiesto is bland music. His music always makes me excited and happy to be listening to it. Alot of people have not seen him live, including me, and I think Bonnaroo would be a great atmosphere to see him perform. The only problem with Tiesto would be when he plays. He is so big it would probably be headline or late night. And I do not see Superfly putting an electronic act in a headlining spot.

I don't know who I want more, Infected Mushroom or Tiesto. I love them both, and both of them have AMAZING shows. Can Superfly please answer my Christmas wish and book both of them? That would make for a very happy bamadancer
But I have to go with my girl Bamadancer here... Infected Mushroom is insane. I would love to see both Mushroom and Tiesto perform at Roo.

Mmm..just enjoying Alive 2007. It would be amazing to see Daft Punk!!
not dogging you this beautiful morning, but why is it you and others want the roo to change so much and get new artists et al? i love new music, i like daft punk, i saw them at the rocks and vegoose last year .... but if that is what strikes your fancy, why dont you just go other fests that have that kind of music .... the miami fest or coachella (which is tied for the roo for the best fest), but they are entirely different .... its nice to go to a fest that you can pretty much count on will have a certain type of music and feel ... lets not let gv and superfly turn all the fests into the same thing, just in different places ... just a thought ... cr****
I was listening to JamOn on sirius last friday night at midnight to a show hosted by dude from disco biscuts, cant remember his name but its called Jamtronica, sweet show by the way, but I heard this band called Shpongle, they sounded so good , anyone heard of them before? i think they would be a great late night act for friday or saturday.
I've heard very good things about Shpongle (especially that it fits well with other...erm...recreational activities) so I think they would fit in at Roo extremely well.
also I was watching a dvd of Fat Boy Slim on a beach somewhere, his performance was pretty good and his stage show was top notch. I could even see him headlining, on the dvd there must have been 50,000 there just to see him.
I gotta say, there's not too many feelings like that of tens of thousands of people dancing together to one beat. The top 5 moments that I can remember like this would be:
1. Daft Punk - Lollapalooza 07 (Absolutely AMAZING.) 2. Girl Talk - Roo 07 3. Paul Oakenfold 4. Carl Cox 5. Infected Mushroom - Vegoose 07
I think it will be Shpongle late night this year. Simon Posford headlined the Symbiosis Festival in Cali with Shpongle and Hallucinogen in Dub live, and did a set as Hallucinogen. That Festival must have been insane, check the line up >>

Thanks for the info, that fest does look interesting might have to check it out. Man that video on youtube def. perk my head up, If they did a late night I would not miss it, those costumes are sweet, I like colors... oooohh...... awwwwww!
Just a basic question.... am I the only person who hates Daft Punk? I understand why people like them so, but am I just missing something? It seems like they've developed very little over the past 10 years, and even then I didn't like them. Keep in mind that I'm extremely picky about my electronic music.
I'm sorry , I know it's slightly off topic, but since it's the electronica thread, I figured I'd just ask for people to explain the reasoning to me.
And, yes, this is a genuine question... I'm really interested, because I feel as though I may be overlooking something.

my 3 votes for this year go to:
BT (Emotional Technology is an amazing album, one of my favs for sure) Tortured Soul (bring em back, i loved them in 06) The Crystal Method (overdue for an appearance)

I could get into some Crystal Method, definitely. BT's kind of a mixed bag, tho'.... his last release, Binary Universe, was pretty psychedelic, in a try-not-to-fall-asleep-while-he's-showing-how-brilliant-he-is sort of way. Anything earlier's fine by me.
However, given his recent problems - primarily, a difficult divorce (his wife kidnapped their daughter for the holidays) - I wouldn't be surprised if he took some of the year off.

I feel ya, mothersky. While I do like Daft Punk, oftentimes I'm not sure why. I think I just give in to the basic attraction to heavy, pulsing bass and huge, repetitive hooks. In other words, what they do they do very well. And the live stuff I've heard I think is worthwhile for the way in which they change up their tunes and mash them and really pay attention to the layers. But I can totally see not liking them, and I wouldn't say you're even really missing out.

You're referring to the Brighton Beach Boutique. FBS has done 3 of those beach parties, each of which has numbered in the hundreds of thousands.... Norm can def handle a mere 80 thousand hippies.

There seems to be a serious lack of house music at bonnaroo.
I mean we had tortured soul in '06 which was great but nothing last year. I'm thinking the Greenskeepers are definately due this year, either a live act or dj set would be wonderful.
Humanity has advanced, when it has advanced, not because it has been sober, responsible, and cautious, but because it has been playful, rebellious, and immature.

Kind of a noob to the Electronica scene but fell in love with STS9 during their set last year. Just started listening to Goldfrapp. Anyone have any input on them live?
