yeah...there's just something about Down that I think would really fit into Bonnaroo, mostly because they're so damn groovy and southern rock influenced. not to mention they're all about drinkin' some whiskey, smokin' some herb, and rockin' out also, A.C. entertainment, one of Bonnaroo's production companies, has been responsible for booking a lot of Down's upcoming shows in the southeast, so i think it's a possibility...let's hope so.
I consider Clutch to be a pretty hard band. They were at the Roo last year. It was the first show I saw and man did it surprise the hell out of me. I'd seen them before, but there I was in my Tie-dye making my way to the front of the crowd when some spikey hair guy starting beating the crap out of the person standing next to him. The music started and insta mosh-pit. I made my way to the side of the tent so I could still see and then watched the same guy crowd surf over the bar in front of the stage at least 3 times the last of which they took his wrist band.
I'm not sure why people have to beat each other up in a mosh-pitt in order to have a good time, but it's not for me. Next time I know to stand back a bit.
I pretty much started that pit... My wife lost both her crocs, and I lost my fav cowboy hat, but it was worth it... Mosh-pits are great if you follow the rules... DONT punch/fight HELP people up when they fall
Pretty simple, but I was amazed at the folks who were completely Mosh-pit nOObs
I missed the Clutch pit last year as I was somewhat inebriated in the back of the crowd from all the "Welcome to Bonnaroo" funneling. Im sure if we get a hard band (Mastodon or Helmet plz!!!) on Thursday night, I'll be right in the middle of the fun!
I expect there to be a heavy band again this year. As far as who I dunno. Either way it would be awesome. I know some of my neighbors I talked to last year said they where disappointed that bands like Tool where there. B/c that is not what Bonnaroo is about and they are starting to sell out. I of course didn’t like the comment b/c I’m a huge Tool fan. We discussed that for some while. I told them to go see the Tool show and come and tell me what they thought the next day. They loved it said it was an amazing experience. That they where interested in hearing more and not for a million years did they ever think they would be interested in something like that. I think this example is the kinda point they are trying to make!! That there are so many great awesome bands in many different styles and to experience it!!

i would do anything...ANYTHING to see rage they broke up before i could even go to a concert and i got screwed out of going to voodoo this year. i really hope they do a few more shows in the U.S
The pits at Vegoose were def filled with people throwing punches and elbows in people's faces. There was even this big dude who took some unsuspecting guy by the back of his shirt and threw him straight to the ground. If I didn't have my hands full, I would have gotten right in there and threw the big guy to the ground myself! Dumbasses.
The pit for Rage was HUGE. Probably were 3 or 4 massive pits, and some smaller pits. The pit for Iggy and the Stooges was like this:

Like I said, next time I know to stand back a bit. I love some RATM and some other hard bands, such as Clutch, but I will NOT be in the front next time. To each their own. And Karma to you to make up for the cowboy hat. =p

thats seems pretty tame compared to most of the shows ive been to. if i can find any of my pictures from converge shows....they'll make that look like child's play. a hard band or two on thursday (and maybe friday) aren't such a bad idea. gets the blood flowing for the rest of the weekend ya know.
I have to say i think the enviornment plays a factor when it comes to the heavier bands and moshing. I know there will be moshing but i dont' think it would be as intense if it was a local show vs a music festival.
as far as moshing is conerned i know i will be staying far away from it! i went to a nin show in chicago a few yrs back and his first song came on somehow i went down not sure how and ended up in the hospital w/ a broken ankle and missed the whole damn show. come to think about it i didn't think i was even in a pit but something went wrong!! the worst thing was i lost the dude i went w/ and had to sit in hallway the whole way listening to the show and not able to see that was more upsetting then hitting my foot. i'm not from chi-town so i didn't want to go to a random hospital by myself

Yikes, sorry that happened...
I still think that location and 'Roo spirit will keep the moshing somewhat civil.... Like I said, there are peckerheads everywhere... BUT southern hospitality (well, any hospitality) in a mosh pit makes a world of difference... If the guy (we have all seen him) that "clears" the pit, is cordial then it falls into place nicely. The big boys job is to keep people in check..
I have seen crazy sheet while moshing, don't get it twisted... We had little f*%ckers throwing naked razor blades at a Mudvayne show one time....
I was also injured more than once, but the glass is half full !

"I have seen crazy sheet while moshing, don't get it twisted... We had little f*%ckers throwing naked razor blades at a Mudvayne show one time...." <--------scares me as does this whole thread....
Everyone is entitled to what they like and I'm just trying to help to put the other side into perspective so don't smite me please! I: A)would not attend a show like this even if said heavy band were headlining (which I don't think will ever happen with the exception of RATM) B)Think Tool was a little different from the above bands being named because of their psychedelic feel. C)think the middle of no where on a farm with limited medics does not seem like the best venue for bands that have mosh pits. (and I don't want to see anyone get hurt!) D) My boyfriend attended the RATM (and really likes them) shows at Vegoose and at Alpine and said it was out of control, the crowd was one of the meanest he's ever been around even the one's that were not moshing...that's not something I want to have at my roo Not to say that all people that are fans of this music are mean but I like friendly people at roo and also again don't want anyone to get hurt!
"If the sight of the blue skies fills you with joy, if a blade of grass springing up in the fields has the power to move you, if the simple things in nature have a message you understand, Rejoice, for your soul is alive."
Mudvayne......yikes! Go see a band that puts on a costume n thats the kind of retards youll get in the crowd. The whole razor blade thing is pretty out there...and thats not what moshing is about in the first place. A lot of people think that its just a bunch of meat heads trying to hurt each other (unfortunately theres a lot of meat heads out there who think that way too) but thats not the case. Its really hard to explain but theres a lot more to it than that. The idiots that go out n randomly hit people in pits or...throw razor blades (which is absolutely beyond me) gives a bad name to the rest of us who are heavily involved our respective punk, metal, hardcore, and indie scenes. Just dont let stories like that scare you off of going to see a heavier band that might get booked for Roo. If the pit isnt your thing, hang toward the back or side n rock out anyways. We're all there to have fun (not hurt anyone)...some people just have different ways of doing it.
