Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Pearl Jam, Metallica, Robert Plant, Phil Lesh, Allman Brothers, BB King, Bela Fleck, Umphreys, Mastodon, and The Sword
As far as I'm concerned, if they traded Kanye for Claypool we'd be set.
I guess I'm still a little shocked about the Metallica even though we had 2 months of warning. But I like their old stuff anyway, and I just looked up some recent Metallica footage, it looks bomb, and they mostly play their old stuff... well.
I skipped the Police last year to get a front row spot for Flaming Lips. It was definitely worth the four hour-wait. Especially since we had a guy in blue leading us in sing-alongs.
Me, too! I was actually standing next to the Blue Guy during the show. He has an account here, haha.

If you were standing next to him then you were standing next to me. Good times.
Anyway, these are the deal-breakers that ensure my 2nd visit to bonnaroo being in 08.
Sigur Ros, Gogol Bordello, BB King, Broken Social Scene, Allman Brothers, Aimee Mann, and David Cross.
There is one thing Bonnaroo was, is, and always will be: A time and a place where thousands of people can get together, have a really good time, and see some really amazing musicians perform.
I think you may have lost sight of this. Why does the fact that something is "commercial" or popular completely dissolve its artistic integrity? "MTV bands" (whatever that means...I haven't seen a band on MTV the last fifty times I've passed over it flipping through the channels), believe it or not, can write some amazing music. Death Cab has beautiful, honest music that paints a picture if you really listen to it (listen to the song "Transatlanticism" and tell me you don't find anything beautiful about it.) Also, why did having The Police last year scream "MONEY MONEY MONEY?" The Police were a talented and original band who influenced a lot of great music. Les Claypool wouldn't be doing the same thing he's doing if it weren't for The Police. In fact, I believe Les cites Stewart Copeland as one of his biggest musical influences, and if it weren't for him, well, we wouldn't have ever heard Oysterhead.
Yes, Metallica have done some questionable things (like the Napster what have you) and have put out some questionable music (like the contents of St. Anger), but there is no denying that they are talented musicians who perform live extremely well and who wrote music that has changed history by influencing countless musicians. Do you think we would have Umphrey's McGee if it weren't for Metallica? If so, then why do they cover so many Metallica songs? (I believe they have played "And Justice for All" and "Enter Sandman" at Bonnaroo before.) Mastodon is also an incredibly creative, talented, and energetic band who rock extremely hard. In fact, Blood Mountain is one of the most unique and wonderful recordings I've ever heard, and I think a lot of people would agree with me on that if they've really listened to it. It's fine if you don't like that type of music, but does that mean it has no place at Bonnaroo?
Norah Jones performed at the very first Bonnaroo. The album she put out that year has sold more than 20 million copies, making her one of the most popular musicians in the country. Does the fact that she's made a lot of money make her voice any less beautiful or her songs any less memorable? Does it turn her music into "shallow, unartistic, commercial garbage?" I'd like to think not.
I'm not trying to argue here. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, and I try to respect them the best I can. I just thought I would try to get you to think about this in kind of a different way.
Bob Dylan once wrote, "The Times They are a Changin'." Ron Burgundy had never heard that song. Have you?
Lastly, if you don't end up going to Bonnaroo for any of your aforementioned reasons, I hope you find a way to have as much fun as I will from June 12th to the 15th, 2008.
i think their allstar lineup lies within the comedy tent.
The story IS STILL UP on the Chicago Sun Times website. The link doesn't work unless you copy and paste the whole thing, apparently there is a limit on the length of clickable links on Inforoo:

^thats why i dont want to miss it. I've built this whole time since i left to this moment. At first i was like devasted "Fuckin' Kanye? Jack Johnson, Headlining? Jesus" then i refreshed the page, and it was still there. I'm completely down with Metallica. There were other headliners out there (R.E.M., Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Beastie Boys). I think everyone is upset because we think Jack Johnson is going to be a Sunday Headliner. Well, uh..i hope not. Do whats right, Let the Allman Brothers/Phil Lesh close it out. They both deserve it. With a few additions this lineup could turn into a pretty solid lineup.

After all the hype with the clues, Led Zeppelin rumors, the whole Metallica thing, etc. it's understandable that a lot Rooers are disappointed. My favorite Roo was '05 but I'm still looking forward to '08 as much as I did then. I'm not saying you should go if you don't want to; by all means stay home if so desire because that leaves more room to boogie for my big ass. But if you still have a curious soul and want to experience the unchartered, locked-up places in your heart and in your head than PLEASE go to Roo this year and open yourself up to a new experience.

I totally think Phil Lesh & Friends will close it out.
i wrote on a previous post that i was disappointed in the lineup. i stand by that post, but after the past few hours ive had time to reflect. there are some great acts on here that i can't wait to see again (phil lesh, my morning jacket, umphreys mcgee)... great acts that i cant wait to see for the first time ..(pearl jam, allman brothers, sigur ros, raconteurs). there are two main things that are bothering me though: 1) the fact that this lineup is missing artists i was certain would be on there: where in gods name is moe., disco biscuits, sts9, galactic, and LES CLAYPOOL??!! galactic, les, and moe. are all bonnaroo favorites that have always been around in the past... i need them!! 2) i, like a previous post had said, am afraid of the brosephs. while these guys may not be the scary metallica metal heads that we were afraid of... they are the college frat, dont know jack about music, mtvU watchin losers that make fun of hippies and hipsters on a regular basis. Kanye, OAR, Ben Folds, and Jack Johnson will bring lots of them.
people like that WILL bring down the great vibe from the last few years.
so yes..30 more bands are to be added...but we know that 10-15 of them will be cafe artists. im just really hoping that the other 15-20 bands are some electronica (infected mushroom, sts9, disco biscuits) or other roo favs (moe. les, galactic).
that said. i'll more than likely make my appearance at the roo this year. has anyone thought of throwing an inforoo party this year at their site?
im also thinking that this will be the first year that bonnaroo puts headliners together:
friday:metallica what stage, allman bros. which stage saturday: pearl jam what stage, kanye west which stage sunday: phil lesh what stage, jack johnson which stage...

Agreed. I'm not ashamed to get my hipster on for most of the year, but when I'm at 'Roo you can be sure as hell I'm donning basketball shorts and white t-shirts every day, and I'm in my highest spirits of the year. It's the one weekend a year where nothing else matters, and I will GLADLY dress function over fashion. ;D
Except this year, I need to remember to bring my bandanas.

C'mon people! JJ is not headlining Roo and Phil is listed 6th for a reason: He's not headlining either! Notice in all of the news lineup story changes, they only mention TWO headliners. There's one more to come, and Bonnaroo is truly screwing with us all.

There have been frat boys at Roo since the very first year. Your Bonnaroo experience is what you make it; don't let others dictate how you enjoy/experience/react to things.
I'm pretty disappointed but I haven't decided definitively not to attend. I will see portishead and radiohead if and when they tour America this summer and if i have any extra money ill pick a festival to go to. hopefully I'll be able to find a better lineup somewhere else

^we could only hope
Part of me thinks that Led Zep is going to be announced after the second tier of tickets sells out. This is the part of me that still believes in miracles and such.
hmm, i guess it is a possibility that there will be another big headliner, but i kinda doubt it. i only have 2 disappointments, 1 being no Mars Volta and 2 being no electronica, both of which could potentially be corrected through additions, but i'm not gonna get my hopes up. i definitely can't complain about the lineup...they managed to book several of my favorite bands (including mastodon, my morning jacket, iron & wine, and sigur ros), 2 of which i have never seen and will be able to die happy once i do so. i seriously can't wait for sigur ros...hopefully i'll see a bunch of you there. i'll be the guy in the middle who has melted into a warm puddle of happy tears.
NY Times says the Mars Volta is on the line-up. What the hell? Between that and the AP reporting Zep being there, I've had my emotions significantly fucked with. I still hold out hope for a quasi-Zep reunion at Super Jam this year and maybe the Volta will be added later. Until that time, the already stacked line-up will suffice.
i'm starting to warm up to this lineup. i'm listening to a lot of bands i havent heard of and its almost all good. israel vibration is some awesome reggae. i'm really liking mgmt too.
i'm not going to be able to afford a ticket till may though. here's to hoping that zeppelin keeps their name out of the hat. i personally think zeppelin won't play. they are too big and i don't think they'd start their world tour in the u.s. either.
