i will not be attending this bonnaroo. it isn't worth it to me in money, heat, frustration, hurt feet, sunburn, etc. i'd be lying if i said i wasn't extremely disappointed in most of this lineup. extremely.

i'm going. pearl jam put on a great show at lolla last year, and despite the worst headliners to date (yes, i think JJ will be a headliner, look at coachella) i still want to see sigur ros, BBS, MMJ, and a bunch of other bands. Great lineup, 2 bad headliners. oh well.
You guys have to remember that Bonnaroo is camping - rough camping at that. This means those who come are into the music, not just a good time. I know many people over the years who have seen many bands they love but didn't go because of the camping aspect; the 4-day aspect. Last year most people I knew said no because of the camping - they instead would go to Virgin or Lalapalooza.
It means those who are willing to take the trek, pay the ticket price, live in a tent in blazing heat or rent an RV are hard-core music fans. Yes, there will be some jerks and such... but in general Bonnaroo is set up so that those who go have to enjoy music, not just the scene.
I didn't see Tool last year. I don't like them, my husband does. He went and had his face melted off and I rested at camp. Still feel as though I got the Bonnaroo experience and my money's worth.
Stop and think about your last Bonnaroo experience... there HAD to be some band there you didn't care for. Did it ruin your time? If so, then yeah... don't come and be disappointed. But honestly I can think of shows I saw that were eh, some that were life-changing, some that I wish I had ended up seeing... but there is SUCH variety, you can only see one show at a time... I think a lot of people can find quite a perfect for them Bonnaroo within that lineup.

last night I was really really sad and disapointed, we were planning on going with a group of people and I'm not sure anyone wants to go now....personally for the raised ticket price, plus cost of rv, plus really lame headliners, lack of music that i prefer (jam and electronic) this year does not seem worth it. Still trying to make my decision but I will take a second look at other festivals this year. Bonnaroo really let me down..though I felt it was coming
Biggest dissapointment: Metallica
Hoping for some amazing additions...though I would like to buy first tier.

I don't know, Les was a no-show last year. Not to mention on his last two tours, he has even skipped my hometown, which used to be a regular stop for him. I've pretty much lost all faith in Les Claypool's coolness factor.
wow - so how about that lineup people? personally - im pumped to see pearl jam. there's only like 8 other groups (so far) that im into seeing, but im going. Like Alieblue said above - it's about the 4-day camping + music + the experience.
I'll be there yo! If nothing else, I'll be able to leave saying that I saw PJ (who i've loved for over a decade) and metallica...who may not be 'roo material, but a worldwide band nonetheless.
And as a follow-up - the bf beat me in the Guessaroo, 7 to 6. I owe him beer now. Thanks Superfly!!!

that's exactly what i thought. i wasn't crazy about tool, but we gave it a chance, left early. just wasn't my thing. but metallica? biglou texted me (woke me up) at midnight when the lineup came out. "pearl jam at bonnaroo!" he says. ok, that's cool. i figured that anyway. then i get "metallica too." i seriously thought he was joking. metallica?!? that's the only act i can't get past.
excluding the metallica bewilderment, my initial reaction to the lineup was meh. nothing jumps out at me as NEEDING to see. yeah there are tons of great acts, but are they worth it? i don't know. i need to ponder the list for a while.
last year, i would have gone to roo for the white stripes alone. this lineup has nothing of that caliber for me.
imo, i like coachella's lineup better, but i'm an indie girl. however, biglou says it's roo or nothing this year, so...
edit: someone said something about violence at roo cuz of bands like metallica and mastadon (which i've never heard, btw). maybe that's a good thing and ac/superfly will rethink next year's lineup.
Personally, as someone who has attended EVERY Bonnaroo, I am VERY excited to see Metallica. I think it will be quacking awesome.
For a group of people who are supposedly "open-minded" about music, I am frankly shocked to see the rampant closed-mindedness towards music on this thread. It's a little disheartening. I would've thought Bonnaroo would have opened some people's minds (as it has done mine - yes I was a "Give me jam and only jam" kid in 2002, but no longer. Bonnaroo helped change that.)

I'm sorry to post this again for those of you who have read it, but I think more people (like the above poster who is apparently physically ill as a result of the lineup) might need to read it:
There is one thing Bonnaroo was, is, and always will be: A time and a place where thousands of people can get together, have a really good time, and see some really amazing musicians perform.
I think you may have lost sight of this. Why does the fact that something is "commercial" or popular completely dissolve its artistic integrity? "MTV bands" (whatever that means...I haven't seen a band on MTV the last fifty times I've passed over it flipping through the channels), believe it or not, can write some amazing music. Death Cab has beautiful, honest music that paints a picture if you really listen to it (listen to the song "Transatlanticism" and tell me you don't find anything beautiful about it.) Also, why did having The Police last year scream "MONEY MONEY MONEY?" The Police were a talented and original band who influenced a lot of great music. Les Claypool wouldn't be doing the same thing he's doing if it weren't for The Police. In fact, I believe Les cites Stewart Copeland as one of his biggest musical influences, and if it weren't for him, well, we wouldn't have ever heard Oysterhead.
Yes, Metallica have done some questionable things (like the Napster what have you) and have put out some questionable music (like the contents of St. Anger), but there is no denying that they are talented musicians who perform live extremely well and who wrote music that has changed history by influencing countless musicians. Do you think we would have Umphrey's McGee if it weren't for Metallica? If so, then why do they cover so many Metallica songs? (I believe they have played "And Justice for All" and "Enter Sandman" at Bonnaroo before.) Mastodon is also an incredibly creative, talented, and energetic band. In fact, Blood Mountain is one of the most unique recordings I've ever heard, and I think a lot of people would agree with me on that if they've really listened to it. It's fine if you don't like that type of music, but does that mean it has no place at Bonnaroo?
Norah Jones performed at the very first Bonnaroo. The album she put out that year has sold more than 20 million copies, making her one of the most popular musicians in the country. Does the fact that she's made a lot of money make her voice any less beautiful or her songs any less memorable? Does it turn her music into "shallow, unartistic, commercial garbage?" I'd like to think not.
I'm not trying to argue here. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, and I try to respect them the best I can. I just thought I would try to get you to think about this in kind of a different way.
Bob Dylan once wrote, "The Times They are a Changin'." Ron Burgundy had never heard that song. Have you?
Lastly, if you don't end up going to Bonnaroo for any of your aforementioned reasons, I hope you find a way to have as much fun as I will from June 12th to the 15th, 2008.
do yall think that bonnaroo already has more confirmed artists but is just holding out to keep the nutsy anticipation....or are they still looking/waiting for more artist confirmations?
I'm so excited about pearl jam. however metallica is another story. One of the things i love about the roo is the hippie love. everyone gets along, it's good vibes all the way around. Have any of you been to a metal show lately? metal fans are @$$ holes. Metallica, Against Me, Mastodon. WTF. This is Super Fly's get out of jail free card. I'll go this year....but if this becomes a trend. not next year.

Eh...the problem is I think, and I can't say I entirely fault Superfly for this, it's really just smart business, is that this lineup is very alienating to the "traditional" Bonnaroo crowd. But based on its appeal with the general music crowd, it's probably the strongest lineup they've ever had. They'll probably draw more NEW Roo goers this year than ever. But they'll probably lose a few old Roo goers too.
