I know we shouldn't be talking about this yet, but who does everyone think will headline next year? I could see Foo Fighters in the newer band/alt slot, I'm hoping for the Eagles in the kind of classic rock spot, maybe a Phish reunion in the jamband slot. Please don't smite me for my opinions if you don't agree with them.

While I agree that this is way to early, I'm going to play along anyway. I'm not sure the Foo Fighters are big enough to carry a headline spot. The Eagles are way too far past their prime to headline. Phish, if reunited, will create their own festivals.

Lookin too far ahead. My question is, who is going to headline Bonnaroo 2007. I know a guy who works for superfly and he 100% confirms that it's gonna be Pearl Jam, The Police and Bob Dylan. Won't that be sweet.

well we got a third right in 07 and another third of that is playing 08. I say those odd aren't all that bad.

the thing about the 08 lineup is that it leaves the 09 line up as a huge Questionmark as i see it. metallica was thrown around A LOT before the lineup was put out, some people were convinced they would be there and others convinced they wouldnt be because it was (and clearly still is if you go around the web looking at bonnaroo talk) a very controversial booking of a band, esp for the headliner slots. i could honestly skip kanye, jack, and metallica although im not sure i will skip any of them at all. the point is Bonnaroo has shown they have the biggest balls in the festival industry and if 2008 goes well for them with metallica as a headliner i do not see Bonnaroo having a problem booking any act they want in the coming years. Not they have any problem booking bands now, i just mean after this whole lineup controversy blows over, people are going to be stoked to hear what bonnaroo is gonna throw at us next year, and i think they are gonna be truly amazed after the "disappointment of 2008"

did ihear disappoinment of 08' before the first addition nevermind the actual event takes place. bad karma
im not calling it that. personally i love the lineup, the general consensus around the internet is that metallica and kanye are the biggest dissapointments in bonnaroo history and they have destroyed it no longer making it worthy of attending.
I will run the risk of just being honest. the only people i have heard complain are people who wnt nothing to do with that genre or "scene" not that i wouldnt have picked alot of other bands for those 2 spots but this is bonnaroo. you gonna doubt superfly at this point or go to roo with just an open mind and a bunch of music to see....thats my plan
Red Hot Chili Peppers (They have to do the 'Roo, don't they?), Zeppelin, Phish. Phish will headline after they headline their own festival. Can't wait till '09.
Close your eyes. Picture a convict. What's he wearing? Nothing special, baseball cap on backwards, baggy pants... he says something ordinary like... 'yo, thats shizzle.' Okay. Now slowly open your eyes again. Who are you picturing? A black man? Wrong. That was a white woman. Surprised? Well, shame on you.

Next year Led Zeppelin will headline Bonnaroo.
I don't think they will let Zep headline 2 years in a row...

Phish will never headline. I know a lot of people would love to see it happen but it never will. Bonnaroo has gone in a new direction and Phish does not fit and the fact is that they don't need roo. They are bigger that bonnaroo will ever be.
"That's the big thing about education. People can be book smart, but not really intelligent about anything else. A lot of times they just taking in all this information and regurgitate it. It's much more important to process it and personalize it. To apply it to your world, to your life. You have to walk the walk, or you can't really report about it honestly."
Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too early. We don't even have the whole lineup yet...
for all the flak people catch around here for being too 'negative' about the lineup, this thread is the best way i've seen for people to still stay positive about bonnaroo as a festival without bashing the current lineup.
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!

Disagreement. This has been discussed before, and I believe that Phish transcends the "new direction" because they are one of the biggest, most important names in the jamband scene. In fact, they transcend the jamband scene and have had a good amount of crossover success (and critical acclaim), that they would be received just fine by non-jamband fans. They are big enough to hold a festival of their own, but that doesn't mean they couldn't benefit from headlining Bonnaroo-- not to mention that they are all fond of 'roo and would probably enjoy the opportunity.

Here's my two cents....
I expect the festival this year will be a success in ticket sales - even with the festival getting further away from its roots and even with the downturn in the economy. But, those two issues are possibilities in decreasing ticket sales. If sales slip, we'll see two of Trey, DMB, The Dead, and Widespread.
But if it is a success, Superfly will continue to "branch out", and try to get a diverse set of name headliners. Kanye West's apppearance is the precursor to Jay-Z headlining. Rage Against The Machine and/or Smashing Pumpkins will be likely. And of course, Led Zeppelin. U2 is probably unattainable, so Coldplay would be a big name for them to try that - like Tool and Radiohead - is a bit out of leftfield.
