The first three listed are NOT always the headliners. In 2004 Bob Dylan was listed ahead of Trey
Excellent point. I didn't realize Trey got the headlining spot that year. I assumed it was Dylan. Did he only get 90 minutes? Which night?
and I believe last year White Stripes were listed ahead of Panic.
Panic was listed 3rd, White Stripes were 4th.
Jack Johnson's website says he'll be headlining Sunday night. If he's not playing the unopposed slot to close it out, then someone needs to explain to him/his webmaster/ his publicist what a headliner truly is.
I've heard they don't use the stages for anything but the VIP party Thursday night so as not to annoy the good people of Manchester on a work/school night. (Of course, most folks consider Sunday a work/school night, too). To me, the bigger questions are 1) whether Kanye will be playing late night on Friday or if it'll be Saturday and 2) if he'll be splitting the slot with Lupe Fiasco and/or Talib Kweli.
Thanks for starting this thread, jtr210ny. It was long overdue.
some of us believe that phil will be playing sun. after jack johnson. jj would still be playing in that unapposed what stage slot, but phil would be playing after him. we won't know until the schedule comes out if we are right or not.
I'm not sure what crawled up the ass of the guy who started this thread, but here's my thoughts on all the headliner talk:
All "pre-headliners" can and will headline other rather large venues on their tours. Many of them will get the option of playing set lengths that are equal or greater than those they will get headlining those aforementioned shows. B.B. King at Bonnaroo will get a headliner length set at Bonnaroo whereas he would probably get 45-60 minutes to play at ACL or Lollapalooza.
Further, late night sets can often exceed the length of a true headlining set, going on for up to 3 or 4 hours in some cases. So while yes, it's true there are only three technical headliners who have nothing opposite them, Bonnaroo allows for many sets to exceed your normal hour long festival length set thus providing one with the equivalent of going to see a bunch of headliners, one after another almost 24/7 for three and a half straight days.

Question for all you Led Zeppelin bashers:
Why the quack do you care so much as to what other people think? Let people be, poo from my butt. Just let them believe what they want and you do the same..
I'm not bashing them, I never said anything about what I thought of the band. I am tired of these rumors infiltrating so many threads, thats why I said something.

Sorry I didn't mean bashing the band, I meant bashing the rumors/people who feel they're true. I was singling you out either, I meant it as a collective whole. But I got over it now, not worth getting in an argument over the internet, of all things.
I'm just trying to say let people think what they want, but I can just skim over it I guess..
I still think Phil and Friends will close out the festival in the Sunday headliner spot. I believe it's required by law that he close every festival in America. It might be in the constitution.

I think Zeppelin will be there. Way too many things point to yes
Like that they aren't on the lineup, weren't added before tickets went on sale, that Jimmy Page said that Zeppelin won't tour until September, that Ashley Capps said there are no more headliners to be added and that "if Zeppelin was going to be there we would be shouting it from the rooftops," he said, adding that no one would be more surprised than him and his team if the band did perform. How can you possibly think Led Zeppelin going to play this year? It's going to happen next year, there is no use thinking up conspiracy theories this year. I guarantee you next year if Led Zeppelin does headline (and I think they will) they will be at the top of the lineup. Furthermore, why would a cover band be booked for a festival if the real band was playing?
None of the reasons you gave are any good. As the before mentioned Phil and DSO. Ashley Capps came out in a statement when the Metallica and Zeppelin rumors started, that both of those were false. One is true, so why not both. Don't believe anything AC says. Led Zeppelin would not be touring if they played Bonnaroo, they would be doing one show. Superfly would NEVER announce Zep before the festival, unless it was a week before, but I still think they will be unannounced. If Zeppelin is announced more than a 2 weeks before the festival, we would see the WORST scalping operation EVER. If Zeppelin plays next year, it is very anticlimactic. If Zeppelin plays this year, Bonnaroo is named the undisputed Champion of Festivals. Just one more thing, Robert Plant is already there and John Paul Jones played last year and loved every second of it.
Sorry for talking about this in the wrong thread, but I just wanted to mention that. I won't discuss this anymore on this thread. By the way I did not even use all my evidence
Someone asked why White Stripes were being called a headliner by the press last year. The answer is because internationally, they are way bigger than Widespread. IMO (keeping in mind I've seen both bands twice), White Stripes are a bigger name in general.
there's only ONE type of headliner. the 3 bands that play from 8-12 when no one else is playing, there's no argument about that. News networks Fuck SHit up all the time, they are actually really good at fucking up

Most people have no idea who Bob Weir or Phil Lesh are. They just know Jerry.

jtr210ny is 100% correct. I've been to bonnaroo every year and this is the way it has been since the beginning. Anybody who says differently is simply wrong.
Maybe I'll throw myself to the dogs, but my back's not to the wall Maybe I'll lay some bricks for the man, but the days just aren't that long So if I settle back and chill will I see far enough to feel the angel's dream? I thought it was the Story of the World!
