i am convinced that phil and friends will headline saturday and sunday night, while pearl jam and metallica do a combined headline set friday along with kanye, then have an intermission for chris rock, then come back and play the second set. Then phil will steal the What stage for a late night set.

true that, quite unlikely, next year they most probably will, however it is possible, probable? NO, but many fishy things are going on here, didn't they say that the metallica rumors were bs? but after all they are there.
Except Metallica is on the lineup and Led Zeppelin isn't. [/quote]
can't beat that logic! still think its possible but very VERY unlikely.

A few truths:
1) Some people on this board refuse to believe that Led Zeppelin is not going to show up at Bonnaroo. These people will be convinced Zeppelin is coming until they are driving off the farm Monday morning. You should pity them and their inevitable disappointment.
2) Jack Johnson is headlining Sunday night. It's been quoted in a number of major publications that he is closing the fest, and he is listed as doing so on his website. Like it or not, he's a pretty big draw these days - he does (did?) have the number one album in the country, and he appeals to a pretty broad spectrum. Accept this, and move on.
3) There has never been a Thursday night headliner, and there likely won't ever be. Traffic is still pretty horrific on Thursday evening, and it's highly unlikely that Bonnaroo would let one of it's marquee acts - a major draw for ticket sales - play while tens of thousands hadn't even arrived yet. If it ever happens, they will likely announce very clearly that Thursday has become a full fourth day of music, and do this in advance of ticket sales.
4) It is understood that a band can be called a "headliner" in many different ways. However, in terms of Bonnaroo, a "headliner" has always been the band that plays an extended (2+ hour) set, on the main stage, starting after 8 PM, with no competing bands (minus perhaps an act on one of the cafe stages). This is what we are referring to when the word "headliner" is used.
5) A "festival" is an extended, often multi-day event, sometimes featuring on-site camping and other facilities. Depending on the organization, it can include music, art, food and drink vendors, cinema, and other attractions.

This pretty much fits me to a T. I won't believe that Zep isn't there til the headliner plays Sunday.

i agree with most points, however, #5 contradicts #3. Wasnt last year the first year Thursday was pretty much a full day? The festival is a full 4 day festival now, and it makes more sense to have a headliner each available day. saying so many people wont be there could easily be fixed by saying "hey come thursday because we have a fourth headliner for that day." i dont think this is likely though b/c they barely announced jack as a headliner, it was mostly focused toward PJ and metallica

End of story.

I might be missing something, but how exactly does that mean point #5 contradicts #3? If anything, you just agreed with both points 5 and 3... and also agreed with the Juggernaut's method of getting people there on thursday night. No contradiction there... ???

Though you may clarify the definition of headliner.. major news companies don't know what a bonnaroo headliner is.. this thread is a waste of breath.. because I can find several articles from 2007 claiming TWS were headlining.. Jack Johnson being called a headliner 4 months prior to the show doesn't mean anything.
it is absolutely hilarious to me that people still do not believe this b/c they either don't want to, or don't have enough experience with Bonnaroo to understand otherwise.
Everything jtr210ny posted is 100% accurate.
IF YOU SAY OTHERWISE YOU ARE SIMPLY WRONG, AND DO NOT UNDERSTAND HOW IT WORKS
there is really nothing left to say. You can claim this that or the other. No amount of articles from last year, or this year or false information from extraneous news sources is going to change the fact that the way jtr210ny (and the juggernaut) laid it out is HOW IT HAPPENS EVERY SINGLE YEAR.
Wasnt last year the first year Thursday was pretty much a full day? The festival is a full 4 day festival now
the festival has been a 4 day festival since 2003. The only thing that changed in 2007 is that they finally added thursday to the list of dates. Why it took so long, I don't know, but the only thing that changed was the extra date in the announcement.
Thursday night in 2007 was not a full day, and went down just as it has gone down in the past years. It is a sundown to midnight lineup full of bands that are in no way, shape, or form top billed acts, let alone headliners.
true gtwrecked, but I think it is up to people like jtr, juggernaut and myself, who DO understand what is going on, to clear up any misconceptions that are floating on inforoo.
Some people keep expecting a superfly announcement to clear this up, and it is simply not coming.
Yeah, the fact is, Metallica, Pearl Jam, and Jack Johnson are headlining, most likely in that order. I can swallow the idea of Kanye West headlining Thursday night, but I highly doubt Led Zeppelin will be making an appearance. I don't know what Superfly is doing with the artist announcements, or why they're being so weird about it this year, but I don't think anything really points to Zeppelin, and I don't see any reason why Bonnaroo would all of a sudden have a post-headliner performance on Sunday night, which has never been done. The biggest addition I'd hope for is Primus.
Hey, people complained about Widespread last year. Lots of people even said they'd be leaving before the Sunday headliner. Now people don't want Jack Johnson to headline.

Yeah, everybody bitches. I won't bitch. This is probably my last Bonnaroo, since I'll probably just start going to Langerado when I move back to Florida in a few months, and I intend to make this one a good one.
The lineup is deep, the big names are weird, and Bonnaroo is getting a lot of mainstream publicity, all of which points to this being a pretty wacky year. Chris Rock leading into Metallica on the main stage? I intend to make the most of Roo '07. At least we can say we were there.
you're right, they could easily expand to a full fourth day - but they would announce that, most likely before tickets go on sale.
i'm not disagreeing, or agreeing, really. I have enjoyed reading your posts in this thread though, Jugg. Gouge, too.
To the poster that said, "have patience, this happens EVERY YEAR." (gtwrecked)
Well, look at Gouge's karma - He could sit back and watch the noobs flood inforoo year after year around this time - shooting off whatever bullshet they can think of on the spot - or he could step in and clear shet up with his boundless Bonnaroo knowledge...
But in response to what i quoted, if you remember, last year - printed on the cover of Friday's issue of Bonnaroo Beacon was a front page headliner that read,
Excellent post. Couldn't have said it better myself. Karma for that.
Maybe it's just me, but the thing that annoys me the most about this kind of speculation is that it gets in the way of appreciating the entire lineup for the solid, diverse group of artists it is.
Maybe in order to turn this around, we should accept the fact that JJ will close it out and instead focus on who will get the "White Stripes" spot before him. I'm thinking My Morning Jacket will. I know that they had initially reported Friday on Pollstar beforethe lineup was released and a lot of folks want to think they'll play right before PJ on Saturday, but this just seems right to me. They seem pretty universally loved around here and with their history of playing Bonnaroo, they've certainly earned that high-profile spot.
Would the folks that hate on JJ be happy with that?

I don't agree or disagree with most of what's being said - I can wait for the artist announcements, don't care what or who you call a headliner as long as it rocks and can see that we're all getting tetchy from speculation.
However, I don't agree that nothing can ever be done differently because Roo has been following the same format pretty much since it started. It is within the realm of the possible that different things may happen this year and it is definite that we won't know for sure until they tell us. Speculation and discussion are a part of what this board is for, no?
Thanks for the backup Gouge. I can always count on you to be the voice of reason for all things Bonnaroo. You do lots of the heavy lifting when it comes to dispelling all the noob-tastic misinformation floating on these here interwebs. You also make it so I don't have to post too often. For that I thank you.
yeah, I think we'll see Battles and Dark Star Orchestra doing those duties and I think they are going to make great thursday night late shows. It's a nice contrast of 2 styles that both benefit from longer sets. Neither band is high on the lineup, but I know a lot of folks are excited about seeing one or the other (maybe even both).

Bonnaroo would never change things from year to year. Who are you kidding, you are making assumptions based on previous years. Other people are making assumptions based on where they see the festival progressing. Both are making assumptions, therefore no one has hard evidence. Wait till Bonnaroo comes out with the schedule, then we can say "ha" I was right. And then you will feel satisfaction for 5 seconds, then you will never remember it for the rest of your life, so calm the FUCK down!
I've debated about this with a friend before. Personally, I believe a headliner to be whoever plays the What stage at 8:30 each night while no one else plays. It's really up to interpretation though

i can't say i agree with that. just because i don't have to see or know someone doesn't mean i wouldn't feel bad if i said something unbecoming to them in an argument.
