Saw them in 94 in miami It was probably one of the best experiences. Eddie raised up his arms while singing Ocean for their encore and the skies just opened up and the rain just started comming down. they stayed for a few more songs, It was amazing.
As my Inebriated buddy walks out of the Porto, he yells out, "Dude...I love this place...bonnaroo thinks about everything...they even put beer holders next to the toilet!"
Had to break it to him that that was the urnal. Good times good times!

my first time was in '96. second randall's island show. it had rained the night before i think. but their set went on forever. they played a few songs for the first time like off he goes. so incredible. the energy at their shows makes you tingle for hours afterwards. eddie communicates really well with the audience too. perfect for 'roo!!
I never listened to Tool except when I was getting ready for Bonnaroo. I usually don't like Hard Rock, but they are different. Their lyrics are really good, and there light show is UNBELIEVABLE. Not to mention their visuals. I would recommend them to anyone who is ready to rock

well definitely expect PJ to deliver. ive seen them 12 times total and they haven't let me down once. this will be my first time seeing them at a festival- but these guys are made for festivals. should be great. i hope there's a nice breeze while they play...

fair enough. but may I remind you that '92 was 16 years ago?...
i think it's fair to say their catalogue has diversified since then, and that they've honed their craft a bit. listen to no code or binaural- very different from their early stuff.

I saw them at the Tibetan Freedom Festival at RFK in 98 (yep I'm showing my age ).
They were amazing and rocked that whole stadium. The set was short though because they gave part of their set time to the Chili Peppers because their show had been cancelled the night before due to storms. I thought that was pretty damn cool
I am absolutely thrilled to have them at Roo - they are a perfect fit.

First time I seen a PJ show was about 95 and they killed, one of the top shows i have seen.( you could tell they had a love for what they were doing) last time i seen them was some time around 04, and thought they were robots, It was like watching a show at chucky cheese. Im hoping they bring it to bonnaroo.
I'm pumped. I've never seen them, but I have only heard good things, so hopefully it is as awesome as Tool was last year
I'm a huge fan of both bands and have seen tool once and pearl jam 3 times (roo will be my 4th). In my opinion from what i've seen, pj puts on a way better show than tool. Tool is amazing live, but pj is just something else. Tool is amazing live mainly because the sound is incredible. Maynard mostly stays in the back so that you can really experience the music rather than "getting into it" with the crowd like pj does. -side note - the coolest part of the concert was when the band took their encore break and just chilled out on stage. Then one of them (i'm thinking it was Danny, but i could be wrong, my memory isn't what it used to be) took out a lighter and lit it up. Then everyone at the amphitheatre lit their lighters and held it for what had to be 10 minutes. Just an amazing experience. Now how PJ differs is that ed really gets into it with the crowd. Don't get me wrong, the sound is amazing and sounds better than on cds, but when ed gets drunk, watch out. Ed loves to talk with the crowd, and to let us sing parts of the song so that we really feel as part of the whole experience. They really seem to care about their fans and it shows at their concerts. Just pray that ed drinks a ton of wine while up there, Do the Evolution with ed hammered and dancing around the stage is always fun.

actually, of the many times i have seen them live, their show during the vote for change tour ('04) was my least favorite. the band said in interviews afterwards that they felt overburdened in trying to convey an important message to the crowd and that the whole concept made their performance feel unnatural. they performed a lot of covers allowing the music to speak for itself and it just didn't translate the way they wanted.
not that i need to make excuses, but thats probably why they seemed different...

I was there too and out of the 8 or 9 or 10 shows I've seen them play it was by far the worst. Don't worry, it's not indicative of their show.

saw them at Lollapalooza last year. Wasn't THAT impressed. They didn't suck or anything, but eh.
(commence smiting)
you're insane.
im going to have to up that show - so many people are crapping all over it...
would it have been better if I knew their catalog more deeply? I just know Ten and then the radio singles mostly...apparently they played some really rare stuff, or so I heard people say?
I'm also sure it would have been a better show if I were nearer to the stage (I was like halfway back on the field, up on the ridge). And I was BEATEN from the weekend

i dunno, im not a superfan by any possible stretch of the imagination. i own none of thier cd's. i saw them open for u2 once and it was amazing. then lolla... for two days this week, i was using the lolla show to motivate me at the gym!!!
yeah, back on that ridge looked far away from me and not as happening as around a quarter way from the stage.

I was up near the board for Chili Peppers in 2006 and it was really rough. I don't even want to imagine what the frontal area for PJ was like. I am glad I got up close to see TV on the Radio at the other end of the field, though.

tool and pearl jam two different shows two of my favorite bands, tool only seen them four times they are perfectionists everything is calculated the visuals are as much the focus as the music. That is why you don't see any changes to the set list. Also it was Justin who would light the lighter during the break for wings one and two. Also for the first half of tools set at roo it was the best i ever heard them the most crisp almost perfect by all four. Somthing changed during the set they fell off a bit but it was still amazing. Pearl jam is a set that draws the crowd in first time I saw them 11/91 roseland nyc , last time 6/3/06 jersey. They are very diverse they can play anything from their catalog at any givin time including many covers. They could easily have many other artists play with them they enjoy that and any of them could show up at another show. They could also (and I hope they do) play for a long time maybee 3 1/2 hours or more. Can't wait for june Love to see puscifer too
I have tons of PJ bootlegs, but I'm sure it doesn't give actually seeing them any justice. They're the #1 band I want to see at Roo. I'm determined to get a front row spot for them.
i have been brought to tears at each pj show i've been to. i'd tell you all how many that is, but i wouldn't want to make anyone jealous. i'm going to see ed vedder solo on april 2 or 3 in vancouver, and i'm really excited about that, but not as excited as i am for roo!!!!
