Early tent sets that stand out to me include Calexico 04, Dr. Dog & Joanna Newsom 05, Drums & Tuba 02, Liz Phair 03 and Junior Brown and James Blood Ulmer last year.

Totally agree. The Magic Numbers in '06 was also a really good early set!
Magic Numbers were one of my favorites from the last two years. I was listening to their first album last night/early morning and am about to again. Richard Thompson and Mavis last year, also great. I missed a chance to see Mavis do a free show a month or so ago, 75 miles away, saving money for Langerado.

i was so confused by oysterhead and beck being during the day, but it relly didn't hurt either show. further proof that 2006 was hands down the deepest lineup roo has put out.
white stripes was my favorite show of the weekend last year, forgot about them
Hey, Jude, don't be afraid. You were made to go out and get her. The minute you let her under your skin, Then you begin to make it better.
And any time you feel the pain, Hey Jude, refrain. Don't carry the world upon your shoulders. Well don't you know that it's a fool who plays it cool By making his world a little colder.
I don't necessarily think they are under-rated. I would say part of the reason people look forward to late nights is for 3 reasons. #1. The sets generally go longer than day time. #2. The ability to see the lighting adds an extra dimension to a show that you don't get during daylight. And #3. It is hot as balls at bonnaroo, but it is not hot at night.
Those 3 aspects generally make late night the best time for Bonnaroo. However, I won't deny that there are incredible shows that happen during the daytime. It's just unfortunate that, at times, it can be so hot (ala Wolfmother in 07) that it takes away from the enjoyment of the show.

I think it really depends on the act. To me, the earlier shows are great for the more mellow or happy-go-lucky sort of stuff...relaxing on a blanket at the Decemberists show last year just felt so great, and I can't imagine taking the sun away from the crazyhappydance party that was Manu Chao. But there are other acts that sort of just need to be rock stars and those shows get a bit demystified if they're during the day (think Wolfmother for sure).

Hot Chip Ben Harper and Gogol Bordello tore it up during the day last year. This years lineup is so good, we will definitely be enjoying some good sets during the day.
I always go see music the whole day everyday. The way I see it, I didn't pay $250 to sit around a tent
That is exactly how I feel. Every day last year I would wake up, eat breakfast and then head to centeroo. I was almost always at a show or waiting for a show, and i loved it! I never went back to my tent during the day last year
Hot Chip->Tortoise, the Slip and Junior Brown were my daytime highlights last year. I also remember the Calexico set from 04 and Tea Leaf Green on a Sunday with very few people in the audience (at least at first).
"Love need not be a command nor faith a dictum. I am my own god. We are here to unlearn the teachings of the church, state, and our educational system. We are here to drink beer. We are here to kill war. We are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so well that Death will tremble to take us." — Charles Bukowski
Gogol Bordello into The Hold Steady was the highlight of 2007 for me. And in 2006, i'd say 90% of the best music I saw was during the day: Ben Folds, Bright Eyes, Death Cab, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Stephen Malkmus and Sonic Youth. I think out of the entire festival, Beck was the only daylight set that could be described as disappointing, and even that had some fantastic moments.
Don't forget Josh Ritter kickin' off The Other Tent on Friday of '05!!!! The smile on his face when he realized that the tent was overflowing and that people were singing along was priceless. One of my best Roo memories!
Grace Potter kicked off the Saturday in '06 and it was awesome.
Beat me to it. That was one of my favorite shows of the weekend. I've seen them another 3 or 4 times since that show, they're probably my favorite live band these days, and it all started at Roo.
