a gimmick is just something an artist uses to help boost whatever reputation he's trying to build. gimmick does not equal practical joke.
I really doubt its a gimmick, Im pretty sure he is just uneducated and arrogant. I mean, when u got a bunch of dipshits hanging around you all day telling you that you rock and your a superstar and that your music is oh so wonderful its bound to go to one's head
edit: I would also just like to note that ripping on kid rockis quite amusing and a good way to break up your work day
i don't doubt its a gimmick at all. he really doesn't take himself as seriously as some may like to think.
i also agree with becca...i think he can sing. i don't think its blow your mind kind of vocals, but i can think of 10 other artists who have worse voices and are making as much money. and if we're talking arrogance, let me be the first to throw out kanye's name, and he'll be at roo, too.
and just a side note, i'm really taken aback at the hardcore kid rock hate. i mean, i really didn't think he left such a HUGE impression on people.
My friend Joey is a good singer too. So what?
He can't write and he can barely play guitar.
Neil Young and Dylan aren't the greatest vocalists and Kid Rock may be able to "sing better" than they can. Who cares.

Metallica has more talent and ability than Kid Rock.
I can appreciate not wanting to listen to either but Metallica is much more relevant than Kid Rock ever was, is or will be.

hippie i wish i had time to give you karma for everyone of your posts on this thread today cause I am in 100% agreeance with you. some poeple like kid rock and to each his own, as I said last night at least he covers several genres of music instead of dominating one. i'm not a super fan or anything but he keeps doing what he's doing so more power to him.

Seee - here we are having a nice simple discussion over the merits of Kid Rock who will not even be at Bonnaroo and then we have someone like this that has to just jump in yelling without contibuting any logic or explanations...........
and - as to Kid Rock - we all have our opinions of him - you either like him or you don't.
Kinda like - I don't like WSP, Phil Lesh, Disco Biscuits, Umphrey's Magee or moe. but I am still going to Bonnaroo because there will be lots of other things to do and other bands to see.

My ex sold Kid Rock and his band music equipment when he was working at Guitar Center in Detroit. He said that he was very quiet and polite, just a regular guy... I could totally hang out with him but you'll never see me listening to his music... blech

As far as snobs go, there is music that is not necessarily my cup of tea but that I can respect. I feel that way about many bands that are playing Bonnaroo this year.
Alternately, there are bands that do NOT deserve my respect (as musicians). Kid Rock being one of them.
If that makes me a snob, so be it. I'm fine with that.

I've seen Kid Rock live, oddly enough it was with Metallica in the 2000 Summer Sanitarium tour. I think Korn and Powerman 5000 were the other acts. (This was the show where someone died from falling off the upper deck of Ravens Stadium).
It was a total spur of the moment thing as they were playing on the 4th of July about a mile down the road. My brother and I didn't have any plans for the day and he said hey let's go to the show. So we caught a cab and bought tickets from a scalper after the first act was done for half price. We were not fans of any of them, but we had a blast.
Kid Rock put on quite the show, but I don't think I'd ever go hunt him out to see another. Same for Metallica. When Metallica was announced for Bonnaroo we were both like WTF? But since then I've come around a bit and I'm looking forward to seeing them. If Kid Rock is announced for Bonnaroo though I will sh!t a brick.

I went to the Kid Rock concert in Knoxville , Tn March 7th, first time I had seen him 3 hrs long , he is the best entertainer in music I have ever seen! I agree with some, that some of his songs are a little annoying, but I would love to see him at Bonnaroo. The has beens Metallica , and Pear White, er Jam , lol , are the reason I am not going this year. They will be great in a rock n roll 90's oldies tour.

I did not realize kid rock could sing...I thought he sang through one of those digital voice tuners that make you sound like a daft punk song or cher...

whether or not you like Kid Rock it is ridiculous to say that he has no musical talent. he plays several instruments, writes his own songs and has had hits in at least 3 different genres. all that Kid Rock hate is the very definition of music snobbery.
Oysterhead has got a point. Kid Rock could not achieve his level of success with such limited talent. How do you make the judgement that Kid Rock has no talent? He's clearly a diverse song writer and plays multiple instruments. People bag on his talent because he created music they don't like.
or is it that he created a scene that you don't like...and you make a general statement that everyone who loves kid rock is a wife-beating jerk or a junkie stripper abandoning her kids.
and I personally don't like Kid Rock. I agree the symbolism of his name would be a coffee stain on what people expect from bonnaroo.

Actually, yes... Nickleback is another band that rawks live. Celine is an alien, but can sing her ass off. And Hannah has a bigger fan base than fucking Elvis! haha
So yeah, you don't have to like the music or the morale of the performer, but at least respect the fact that they are indeed talented.
selling a lot of records doesnt make you talented, it makes ur record label and promotion team talented. I dont get the idea that if a lot of people like something this in turn makes that good. I mean almost all the people of germany loved Hitler at first. (yes, I am comparing kid rock to Hitler)
