I am 99.98% sure that he will be the late late night hip hop show that Galactic had. It will be Lupe, Talib, then Kanye (and he will have a multitude of guests with him). Yes he is a big name, but he is not bigger than a lot of the bands playing already (he hasnt proven himself musically in the festival sense). Also roo knows that Kanye is not the typical jam festival performer, so he will not have as many people there as he would for other possible tour dates. Along with the fact that a mass amount of people will be spread out over 4 stages or at the campsites.

I will wager you one hundred dollars, payable at roo, that you are incorrect . . . I'm not kidding either.
There are numerous reasons why it won't happen:
Within this board, he doesn't seem like as big of a draw as one might think. And I know, Bonnaroo has been a "jam" festival, and it seems he wouldn't draw that big of a crowd. But believe me, there are more people out there with Kanye West in their "must see" list than Phil Lesh . . . it is unfortunate (to me at least), but I have to believe that Kanye West is (at this point) a bigger draw than the bassist from the Grateful Dead. I personally, would take Phil over Kanye any day; I think this year's Bonnaroo crowd will be more mainstream, however. And I know, I've mentioned this before, but look at the billing. Kanye is billed fourth, Phil and Friends seventh, MMJ eight. Would they seriously put someone with lower billing on a bigger stage? I know, I know, further down the line-up it happens plenty. But there isn't a single year (from what I can discern), that anyone billed 9 or higher, played in a tent. Also, Kanye's set up is quite elaborate. He usually performs with an Orchestra, not simply a DJ, so I can't even see his show fitting in a tent.

I will bet a few beers on this Mr. Detective if we are somehow able to meet up at the roo. This is just personal but I wouldnt really want him anywhere other than this time slot because that Galactic show was so much fun last year. He wouldnt be a headliner unless he was on Thursday (Pearl Jam, Metallica, and for some reason Jack Johnson), and if he is Saturday he will be either in the the tent that Galactic was at or on the Which Stage.
Now what if this happens. I could see bonnaroo adding another stage and taking away one tent to be able to fit more people (ie Superjam last year). They really need to add another completely open stage instead of having so many tents in my opinion. If you take last years model of how they set up the late nights, this completely works (even though some hopefull late nights will be pushed into the day just because of all the name power they have for late night sets this year). Now thinking about they could put this on the What Stage that night and just have the jams in all of the tents. Either way this will be a fun show, Saturday night will be as much fun as it was last year, and hopefully they do it justice (speaking of Justice...)

^^^^Yes...many people have thought of Kanye's arrogance on this board.
I can see Which stage headliner and I can see late night hip hop tent show. I'm hoping for the former as a late night set would likely mean I wouldn't see him.

Unfortunately, I am going another direction. I think Kanye is the pre-headliner on the What Stage on Saturday (I want the glowing show too, but I just don't see it happening). Then it looks like this on Saturday:
What Stage:
Kings of Leon (Given that they play) The Allman Brothers Kanye West (in the Beck/Roots spot) Pearl Jam
Which Stage:
Gogol Bordello M.I.A. Ben Folds Zappa Plays Zappa B.B. King

This makes so much sense. The thing that really sets Bonnaroo apart from many of its competitors is the long late-night sets. Why not take it to the extreme and have 2 huge yet widely contrasting bands each night? MMJ vs Tiesto on Friday and Phil Lesh vs. Kanye on Saturday.
With that said-- they announced that Phil and MMJ would be the Which Stage late nights. If anyone else were playing a stage that night, I'm sure they would have taken the opportunity to announce it then.
I have no problem envisioning Kanye in a tent because 1) he's not as big a draw as Phil Lesh at this festival (despite what the order of the lineup would tell you) and 2) Maybe the tent will enhance the Glow in the Dark gimmick.
(P.S. Sorry for making a duplicate thread. I would have seen this one if the title was more descriptive)

I think that Kanye will be in a Tent. I think that a lot of people WAY over estimate the draw of Kanye West over some of the other, lower listed bands. If you look at an artist like Kanye, who usually plays small arenas at colleges, and he sells them out regularly, he only draws about 8-10,000 people per show. And this is to a show where the tickets are about $50. I've been to see him the last 2 times he came through San Diego, and I must say, for a rather ethnically UNdiverse area of the country, this was one ethnically and racially diverse concert (no problem with this) and the crowd was TOTALLY different than any I've ever seen at JAM festival. I've also seen him at San Diego's Street Scene 2007 which draws about 20,000 people and his show was only about 7000 people. This leads me to believe that at this festival which his draw might be double that, say 15-18000 people, which a tent can easily hold late night.

hey.. i'm not sure if anyone's proposed this, but maybe Phil Lesh will play Sunday latenight... he's used to closing the festival, maybe he'll play after jack johnson, leaving which stage open for kanye saturday...
my real guess is kanye opens for PJ, though... or plays which stage right before them... inevitably a ridiculous saturday @5pm conflict as per every year...

Those tents can hold a ton of people, and if he's up against Phil and Sigur Ros, the crowd will be dispersed. Phil/SR/Kanye/Techno Tent would also be a perfect setup, as it would have a little something for everyone.
I had originally thought Kanye would be fine for a latenight spot, and others on this board swayed my impressionable little mind with their Thursday What-stage double-secret headliner mumbo jumbo. No more. I'm back on the "Kanye West will play a normal friggin' set just like everyone else" bandwagon.
Edit: Although, it is also possible that they could throw him on one of the stages during the day. The dynamics here are interesting, as you have one side saying it has to be in the dark and the other side saying he'll have to be on a stage. Phil is gonna be on the stage at night, and Pearl Jam will play the only night-time mainstage performance, so what to do with him? We need the schedule.

I'm going with what the dude two posts above me said, except Phil won't be a latenight Sunday on the Which Stage, it'll be Saturday - and Kanye, either What or Which right before Pearl Jam

I will reissue my bet, for anyone willing to take it . . . 100 Dollars, Kanye West's show is NOT in a tent. Payable at 'roo . . . no joke, if he's in a tent, I'll pay you right before his show starts.
His set-up alone requires a larger stage than the tents provide, not to mention the size of crowd, his billing, his ego, and a wealth of other factors.

if this is the case, kanye is out, sigur will get my full attention, and tiesto will be making me dance til sunrise. i might try and grab a listen to phil.

I can see Jack Johnson with a shorter Sunday What and Kanye either on What as the pre-headliner or on Which with a slight overlap.
That said, I'm still not convinced that he's a huge draw for the Roo crowd. Maybe the fourth spot on the lineup is to assuage his ego because he will be playing a late night tent.

So, Bonnatective, are you saying we're looking at a main-stage spot, like The Roots had last year before Tool? I can get behind that.
I think it's possible, but i think the two most likely scenarios are as such:
A) Kanye West plays pre-headliner, Which Stage on Saturday. The only problem with this . . . it's a no-glow.
B) Kanye plays SUNDAY (I believe he has Saturday listed as an arrival date, because he plans to guest with Lupe and Talib that night). He will be on Which Stage, sometime around 8 oclock. There will be a slight overlap between his set and Jack Johnson (15 to 30 minutes, like last year between White Stripes and WSP, except everything is shifted an hour later). This would allow Kanye to glow, give him a big enough stage, and would allow Jack Johnson to take the stage a little later than the usual Sunday headliner (as JJ is not likely to fill a 3+ hour slot).
I am firmly committed to "B" . . . I've been arguing that this is the most likely scenario for about a month now, and I will hold this view up until the schedule comes out, at which point I will either say "See? I told you so!" or it will turn out I'm wrong, and I'll just avoid the messageboard for a few days.
I will espouse my stance one more: No f'ing way Kanye plays a tent.
Unfortunately, I am going another direction. I think Kanye is the pre-headliner on the What Stage on Saturday (I want the glowing show too, but I just don't see it happening). Then it looks like this on Saturday:

Kings of Leon (Given that they play) The Allman Brothers Kanye West (in the Beck/Roots spot) Pearl Jam

Kings of leon aren't gonna be there. they were there last year, and they're too big to be an addition

kanye's schedule says saturday at this point
Duh! I forgot that small detail. Pollstar says Saturday. Kanye's site hasn't been updated. I'll go with my second statement then.
What about the possibility of Phil playing late night Which Stage Thursday, MMJ on Friday then Kanye on Saturday? Seems remotely plausible to me. Not super likely, but plausible.
It's a pretty good way to kick off the festival, plus if a bunch of people miss Phil it's no big deal. He plays everywhere all the time and has been doing so for three decades. He won't be doing anything monumental, just another Phil show.
Kanye doesn't play small college arenas anymore. He plays huge, major arenas and pavilions. He's one of the best-selling acts currently. They won't put him in a tent. That's just ludicrous. Think about how dangerous that could wind up being. Several thousand people trying to cram into a tent. You might think that Kanye doesn't have as much of a draw among Bonnaroo-goers, but I beg to differ. Maybe not with jam-band fans, but as far as the rest of the crowd, plenty of people are going to want to see him. Most likely, he'll end up as a pre-headliner. Which is poor scheduling on Bonnaroo's part, not taking advantage of his glow-in-the-dark tour. While I'd like to see a new late-night slot opened up on the What stage, I know it's highly unlikely. Also, concerning the late night hip-hop show, people seem to be forgetting that they just added the Coup. So the tent show will probably be The Coup-->Talib-->Lupe, with Kanye possibly guesting on some songs (and Talib and Lupe will probably guest during Kanye's set)

The problem is, a bunch of people (including myself) really wanted to see the glow-in-the-dark show, and it looks like it'll just be a regular show now
