What about the possibility of Phil playing late night Which Stage Thursday, MMJ on Friday then Kanye on Saturday? Seems remotely plausible to me. Not super likely, but plausible.
It's a pretty good way to kick off the festival, plus if a bunch of people miss Phil it's no big deal. He plays everywhere all the time and has been doing so for three decades. He won't be doing anything monumental, just another Phil show.
Aside from all the reasons that there will never be a Thursday headliner, it wouldn't make sense for them to announce Phil and MMJ and not Kanye, were that the case.

Kanye doesn't play small college arenas anymore. He plays huge, major arenas and pavilions. He's one of the best-selling acts currently. They won't put him in a tent. That's just ludicrous. Think about how dangerous that could wind up being. Several thousand people trying to cram into a tent. You might think that Kanye doesn't have as much of a draw among Bonnaroo-goers, but I beg to differ. Maybe not with jam-band fans, but as far as the rest of the crowd, plenty of people are going to want to see him. Most likely, he'll end up as a pre-headliner. Which is poor scheduling on Bonnaroo's part, not taking advantage of his glow-in-the-dark tour. While I'd like to see a new late-night slot opened up on the What stage, I know it's highly unlikely. Also, concerning the late night hip-hop show, people seem to be forgetting that they just added the Coup. So the tent show will probably be The Coup-->Talib-->Lupe, with Kanye possibly guesting on some songs (and Talib and Lupe will probably guest during Kanye's set)
^These are my sentiments exactly, it is ludicrous.
But I think it highly unlikely that AC/Superfly would pass up on this "Glow in the Dark" opportunity. Sunday evening, just wait . . .
1) he has to glow. he is on a glow tour - why in the world would he not be glowing at roo? 2) if there is no glowing (aka, the 5 pm slot) probably half the people that would go to see him wouldnt. 3) regardless of your personal preference, he is a top billed act, so i dont see him moonlighting in the hip/hop tent at odd hours. 4) profit?
kanyizzle will definitely play when he wants to play...i mean he's kanye west has he ever let anyone tell him what to do? super fly wouldn't have booked him if they thought they were gonna be able to control when he plays..
Kanye will play Saturday. There's no way he is one of the last acts of the weekend, and there's no way he plays without glow in the dark. He will play in That Tent @ Midnight and will cause a huge conflict for me (and likely thousands of others) between Sigur Ros and Kanye West. Bummer, but it happens every year

Why is there no way he is one of the last acts of the weekend? The White Stripes were the second to last show last year, and they are probably the same draw (and are also the same billing) as Kanye.
Kanye has to be one of the most expensive acts they booked (pure speculation, but I'd say Metallica, Pearl Jam, and then Kanye in order of expense). I can't imagine they would pay upwards of half a million dollars for a tent show.

because he's playing sat., not sun.
According to Pollstar, sure. But Pollstar also had Orchestra Baobob listed for Saturday; until the other day, when they were inexplicably moved to Sunday. The fact of the matter is, Pollstar is not always accurate when it comes to projecting the Bonnaroo schedule. Often times they list arrival dates, not necessarily performance dates. Artists will shuffle around on Pollstar between now and Bonnaroo, as they have already. Kanye has other shows on Thursday and Friday, but had announced nothing for after Bonnaroo. It is perfectly reasonable to think he could play Sunday.

pollstars dates do change but they usually end up being accurate. they update regularly. as of right now, kanye is playing sat. i would bet you a $100 on that.

I agree that Saturday does seem the more likely date. I'm just saying we shouldn't flat out reject the idea that he could play Sunday, that's all.
I just don't see it as a likely fit for Kanye West. He knows Sunday is kindof your "lazy" Bonnaroo day. Lots of people are cutting out early, everyone's tired, and the White Stripes fans are more likely to hang around rather than people just itrigued by Kanye's glow in the dark show. He will not need a stage if he plays Sunday b/c a third of the people that would have caught his set will already be gone
I agree. It will be a bad ass tent set, and will for sure be glowing in the dark....not dusk. My only problem with this is that Sigur Ros will be playing in a tent 100 yards away...

Yeah... nothing against Kanye, at this point, but it'd be best if Sigur Ros and Kanye played no where near each other, in time or distance.
they wouldn't put the allmans on the which stage would they? headlining which state sat. night with a little longer set maybe? with kanye on what stage.

Everyone worrying about Kanye conflicting with Sigur Ros. He is going to headline his latenight. Meaning Some combo of Lupe/Talib/The Coup will play prior to him. I would think Kanye would hit stage around 2am. Which is right around the time Sigur Ros should be finishing.
I dream of the possibility of this Saturday latenight scenario:
If that were to happen, Phil and Friends would have to be a Thursday late night, which would be great I think. But then, Kanye would for sure be on the Which Stage Saturday late night. I don't think ABB factors into the equation at all really. I see them as a pre-headliner 5:00 set. But, I am totally up for the idea of a late night What Stage, but highly unlikely

Also, to you mainstage latenight theorists:
The reason the Which stage latenights work for big shows like the Flips is because they have time to set up, or have it set up all day. I just don't see how after PJ, who will no doubt play till at least 11, they will be able to get the stage ready for Kanye.
^ Great point. But it doesnt take long for someone to setup Phil & Friends, so he could possibly be What Stage late night, while Kanye's rig is setup during Pearl Jam.....possible
Phil & Friends is 100% Which Stage on Saturday night. There is no moving that show.
Also, I just want to re-iterate what some people have said earlier in this thread. Kanye West may not be the biggest draw on this message board, and Phil Lesh & Friends may very well be a bigger draw for some people here, but Kanye West is arguably the biggest draw for mainstream fans on the entire lineup. There is no way he is put in a tent.
Here's what we already know: 1. Phil and Friends and MMJ are playing late night Which Stage sets. 2. Kanye is doing a Glow in the Dark tour which only makes sense in the dark.
I expect Kanye to be a big draw a bonnaroo and therefore do not see him in a tent.
Despite all of this I don't think I've heard anyone mention what I feel is the most logical (although maybe not most likely) solution.
Phil and Friends and MMJ back-to-back on Friday on the Which Stage. Kanye, Lupe, and possibly others on Saturday on the Which Stage.

Has anyone considered that Kanye may play the Which Stage Saturday before Phil Lesh? The headliner goes off at around 10-11ish, Kanye goes on. He plays for an hour and a half, two hours, something like that.. It'll be around 12ish or 1ish, I'd say. Phil comes up right after and plays until dawn.
