Do you guys really think Jack Johnson is a Bonnaroo headliner? With Lolla's big fat juicy headliners and Coachella's addition of Prince, im almost expecting Bonnaroo to match that with either another headliner or straight up "stella" addition(s) in the next week.

You obviously must not have been on the board April 1st for Jackaroo or you would understand the awesomeness of JJ and realize how lucky Bonnaroo is to be one of only a few dozen festivals to have him as a headliner this year.
Hahaahaha yea jackaroo was the event that made me realize jack ain't shiat when it comes to a Bonnaroo headlining act. I mean...i love me some jack now and then but thats a real WEAK headliner. I realize there is more to Bonnaroo than the headliners b/c the rest of the lineup completely blows me away but ill be the first to announce it...Led Zeppelin will be a headliner. mark my words. haha i had to bring it up again...its been way too long since we've speculated a LZ appearance.

Clapton Sunday would be perfect. And just cause I don't want any more conflicts with already packed latenights, I hope they announce Clapton as a special Sunday mainstage headlining Superjam. There is absolutely no way in hell Clapton fits in a tent. Also, it would bump Jack back to preheadliner where he belongs.

I love Bonnaroo as much as you can possibly love something that isn't human. However, it looks pretty weak this year in comparison to the other major festivals. I hope there is still a big trick up their sleeve.

Roo has already come out and said that they don't let other festival;s lineups influence decisions they make regarding their own lineup.
Jack Johnson is still your sunday headliner. I don't think Prince at Coachella or the Lolla lineup are going to change that.
What are they supposed to say?? We spend our time doing everything we can to try and top our competitors. We're vain, and have to be #1. Of course they want to be the best festival, but they're not gonna come out and say they feel they're not the best and have to compete.
That being said, we all know that the Superjam still looms. And with the Allmans, Derek Trucks, B.B. King and others there already, Clapton makes sense. Superjam headliner!!!!! Seriously folks:
Clapton, Trucks, B.B. King, Warren, and many, many more will play this show. I'm not religious at all, but pray this happens.
I'm with GOUGE on this one, other fests may have bigger names headlining, but Roo's undercard is very strong this year. I never yet survived a full headliner set in two Roos, I've either slept or gone off to get a good spot for a late night.

^^I am the same way I never seem to make it through an entire headline.....I always get there late, get bored an walk away, or leave to get a late night spot.....I mean I always hear the headliners I just don' necessarily see them......
As for an additional artist to headline, I don't know....I'm cool with what we got, but I'm also cool with any additions they feel like doing.....I'm not hanging on the fact that we are going to get some super awesome blow your mind away addition/headliner......either way it's all good...it is roo after all
I agree with the notion that we're getting a dull group of headliners this year. Pearl Jam has me excited but thats about it. Ive seen pleanty of Jack Johnson shows and I could really care less about Metallica. I just dont understand how one day JJ woke up and was this huge headliner. It wouldnt be that big of a deal but they jacked the ticket prices up super high and then didnt deliver a very good lineup. Im not trying to be a hater....I mean I believe in the Roo enough to go year after year (This will be my 6th straight), I just dont understand where all the money is going. Did it really take that much to get Metallica? If so, Superfly wasted our money. Surely there is something amazing they're going to announce still. If not, I may be dumping my ticket on ebay and going to Lolla.

Well put. I'm a Bonnaroo loyalist, but this year's line-up is making me seriously question my allegiance. I would literally pay money NOT to see Metallica. Seriously. If someone kidnapped me and told me I had to sit through a Metallica concert unless I gave him 50 bucks, I'd give the guy fifty bucks without even thinking about it. I recall several months ago when the "Led Zeppelin and Metallica to headline Bonnaroo" rumor started floating around . . . . everyone said "No way Metallica would play Bonnaroo." And for good reason. I know that Superfly wants to be the biggest and best possible festival they can, but it seems they are doing it at the expense of alienating their traditional fan base. Meanwhile, festivals like APW and Rothbury are sprouting up . . .
I don't get why everyone is so focused on the headliners. Lolla and Coachella have great headliners, but they can't offer you one single late night act.
Personally, I'd rather see MMJ play a 3-4 hour set from midnight on, than see any of these other headliners at any of the festivals (including Radiohead, they are doing 2 full tours of the states where I get to see them 8 other times).
Lolla and Coachella can't give you Sigur Ros, The Disco Biscuits, Phil Lesh, or Kanye West late night.
Roo can.
When the sun goes down on Lolla and Coachella, the festival is drawing to a close for the day.
At Roo when the sun goes down, the day is only halfway over.
Bonnaroo 2008 doesn't have the strength of Headliners of the other 2008 fests. This much I agree with. What I disagree with is that people go to Bonnaroo b/c of the headliners.
If you've been to Bonnaroo, you know to put on your dancing shoes, come on down to the farm, and make sure you don't wear yourself out before midnight. Because when the headliners are over, well, that's when the real show starts.
open your mind and your ears and go enjoy metallica.... how can you not want to down a couple of beers and let loose some emotion that you dont get the chance to do with uber-crunchy jamband wankery?
not that there is anything wrong with that...
but it is great to go thru the whole spectrum of emotions that different music evokes throughout the bonnaroo weekend.

No one here is going solely for the headliners. But to the general public, the headliners do matter.
^ They definitely matter to the general public. And if that's what Superfly needs to do to sell the tickets and put on the show, then so be it. Maybe you'd pay not to see Metallica? Well, you'll get to not see them for free. Go get a spot at one of the killer late-night shows. Maybe you don't get into Jack Johnson? Well, last year a lot of people on here skipped Widespread.
You know what happens if Prince gets a wild hair, and the crowd's really into it, and he wants to play an extended set? Coachella cuts his sound off. (Do they not?)
I'm not really talking to anyone specifically, but it's not totally about the headliners...I've had more fun at the smaller sets than I have the headliners. I think Gouge is right. It's the other stuff. Coachella won't even let you exit and re-enter the concert area during the day. Stuff like that.

I would cream myself (get it) if they got Clapton at Roo. It's funny though. I just woke up about an hour ago from this crazy dream I had. I was at the Roo and Van Morrison played and he closed with "Gloria". Needless to say it was a pretty fucking phenomenal dream.

Clapton still makes Bonnaroo huge. But something like a Clapton, Winwood Blind Faith/Superjam with all sorts of guests puts Bonnaroo back up to epic status amongst festivals.
2/5- Papadosio 3/3- MUSE 3/12- John Mayer 3/19- The Werks 3/31- Passion Pit 4/18- Ben Folds 4/20- Against Me! 6/10- Bonnaroo 6/30- Eric Clapton and Roger Daltrey
