For me it was Neil Young at Bonnaroo 2003. I lost my friends so I could be in the 4th row, right in the center of the stage. He turned all of his songs into extended jams and just rocked louder and harder than I ever thought he would. I was blown away. Anyone know anywhere I can find this show? The next time I saw Neil was at Willie Nelson's picnic in Two River Canyon, Texas in 2003 and they played Roll Another Number together, but that Bonnaroo show was my favorite concert of all time.
So how about you guys and gals? Favorite show ever?

Same here!!! Neil Young at Bonnaroo
That was my first Bonnaroo and that night I was completely blown away. That’s when I knew I would always be heading back to Bonnaroo each year. I have that show somewhere on CD, I'll see if I can find it and forward it to you. Let me know.
I'd appreciate that. My first Bonnaroo too and that show in particular made me vow to be back the next year. Going directly after Neil to see the Meters didn't hurt either.
The best concert I've been to was Ani Difranco at the Tennessee Theatre in Knoxville. Unfortunately, I've not been to a whole lot of concerts, but that was also a really good one. Drums and Tuba opened for her, and I was really impressed with them. Then, of course, Ani was great. It helps that the Tennessee is a great place to see a show like that, and we had really good seats!
Sit Down Stand Up was perfect for that venue as an opener since no one on the lawn about half way up could see the show since everyone in the upper level SEATS was standing.

The best concert I went to was Jimmy Cliff at Marymoor Park, WA 99 (I think). My friend and I walked down a slough that gets about 3 feet deep at the most for a 1/2 mile, so that we could sneak in. The weather was about 90 degrees and we were soaking wet, but we made it in time for Jimmy and just had a great time. The concert wasn't what made it the best ever the adventure of getting there was.
Dude... this a tough question. I'm gonna go with Radiohead's 2003 show in Chula Vista (San Diego). I had just seen them 2 nights in a row at the Hollywood Bowl, but in San Diego I was down in the pit front row center, and it's just a different show from that vantage point... you really appreciate how great they are when you're close enough to see all the little details. And the energy was so powerful that night. I was surrounded by cool people, one of whom passed out cold twice and I ended up picking him up and dragging him out to a security guard, then had to worm my way back up to the front which was difficult but I somehow did it. The second song was sit down, stand up, and at the point of the song when the crescendo peaks and Thom jumps up from the piano and starts dancing, the entire pit just lost its collective mind... it was amazing.
Also in the running: Radiohead at Coachella 2004 Radiohead at the Greek Theatre 2000 Flaming Lips at Vegoose 2005 U2's ZooTV St. Louis 1992 Run-DMC / Beastie Boys 1987
I would have to say Phish 12/9/95 in Albany. Just a memorable night for me.
I'm assuming I can't count "Bonnaroo" as a concert of course.
Other things that pop into mind although I feel like I'm missing something:
Aesop Rock at the Metro in Chicago '05 Lyrics Born at the Abbey Pub in Chicago '04 A John Scofield/Derek Trucks tour from a few years back Peter Gabriel at Woodstock '94 Trey, moe at Bonnaroo '02 David Byrne Bonnaroo '04 Ray LaMontagne Bonnaroo '05 Every Ben Harper show I've ever seen (I guess I would go with my first show at the Roseland NYC circa fall '97) Throw in my first Phish show 11-25-94 and I've got a top ten (even though noone asked for that)
Wow this is a tough one but the one concert that sticks out in my mind year after year was George Clinton and the P-Funk All Stars at Bogarts in Cincinnati. They put on the concert after playing Lollapolooza. I don't remeber the year but it was about 12 years ago (I was not the legal drinking age yet).
They played until Bogarts told them to stop playing. It was one heck of a show.

I'd like to add to my list:
My Morning Jacket - Bonnaroo 04 and Damien Rice - Bonnaroo 04 The Decemberists - The Metro in Chicago 2005 REM - Rosemont Horizon 1998 Ben Folds Five - IU Auditorium 1999 Eric Clapton - Rosemont Horizon 1993
Best show I've ever seen is Umphrey's latenight at 'roo 04. This show was so good for so many reasons. I was amazed that I was having such a good time at a four and a half hour show by a band that I was not really familiar with. Now that it's been a couple years and I'm more familiar with the band I'm impressed how great such a long show was when they didn't even really play any of there huge songs. Just outstanding playing. moe. during the setbreak was just icing on the cake.
Other shows that stick out in my mind as being better than the typical show would be:
-Yonder Mountain at 'roo 05 -Umphrey's at the Nokia Theater NYC- 2/17/06 -MMW (unplugged) at Potsdam University-2/24/06
I've been listening to the Umphrey's Bonnaroo '04 show the last couple of days and it is pretty damn epic. I was around for the moe. back to Umphrey's Metallica handoff but was checking out a lot of other things that night too. I'm trying to give Umphrey's another chance to hook me and its definitely starting to work, although they're still not right up my alley.
I'm still not quite done listening to the show but so far I think I've enjoyed the jams in Resolution and In the Kitchen the most.
My Morning Jacket @ Roo 2004 The Mooney Suzuki/The Realistics/Sahara Hotnights@ The Metro 2002 (?) The Strokes/The Raveonettes @ The Orpheum, Wisconsin 2004 Secret Machines @ Roo 2005
My top ten would be 1) Neil Young Bonnaroo 03 2) The Pixies ACL Festival 04 3) Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson at Louisville Slugger Field 2 weeks after Bonnaroo last summer 4) Neil Young at Willie's Picnic 03 5) Allman Brothers Band 'roo 05 6) Richie Havens at Jamfest 7) Flaming Lips 'Roo 03 8) John Butler Trio at Headliner's last year 9) Toots and the Maytals at the 'roo last year 10) Galactic and Lyrics Born at Headliner's in 03
1. Mars Volta - Roo '05 2. U2 - Elevation tour @ Rupp Arena 3. NIN - With Teeth @ Rupp 4. Nickel Creek - '05 at UK 5. Blues Traveller and Carbon Leaf @ UK 6. Lou Barlow @ Uncle Pleasants 7. Karl Denson's Tiny Universe - Roo '05
The Pinkpop festival in Holland in 2001. Being in the pit for Tool, to walking over and watching the best Radiohead show I could ever imagine. 70,000 people with bonfires burning all around, and the last words of the show were, "I'm not here this isn't happening." After it was over, my friend and I stood there for a while and wondered if we really were there.
Ka mai, I think the Nothing 2 Fancy is my favorite part of that show. It just brought the energy to a whole new level. Thats also the song that I walked in on and it just made my jaw drop. Also, I think the Prowler>Glory is another highlight of the show.

Phish MSG 12/31/02 - return from the hiatus.. it was just incredible to be there even though the show wasn't extremely spectacular... but the vibes and the excitement certainly were... this also is of course assuming I can't count the first bonnaroo as a concert

Top 5, lets just sort by date:
White Stripes - Sept. 14-05 Playhouse Square, Cleveland Secret Machines - roo 2005 Kings of Convenience - Feb 20-05 Little Brothers, Columbus Robert Randolph & the Family Band Nov. 15-03 Newport Music Hall, Columbus White Stripes - June 25-03 Stubbs - Austin
^^^The Stripes are pretty amazing live. Saw them in Dallas.
Can't say there is a definitive best performance. TV on the Radio in spring '04 in Boston was pretty tight. Saw them in a small club called The Middle East.
