i saw a killer bob dylan show. it was with him and willie nelson. willie rocked the house with all the classics. dylan seemed kinda tired but his band rocked
Here's another vote for Radiohead at Hutchinson Field in Chicago; August 2001. Incredible. If I hadn't sweat out all my hydration, I'm sure I would have cried.
Interesting that so many of us chose Radiohead...
After that, here are a few that rank up there, an incomplete list. Radiohead at Alpine Valley 2003 Black Keys in Champaign, Dec 2005 (tiny venue, up close, they kicked my ass) My Morning Jacket at the Vic in Chicago, 2005 Roger Waters in Chicago ~2000. (2nd row center seeing the man)

wingsclipped lucky you. how much did that view cost if you dont mind me asking?
A lot, especially when you include airfare, hotel, etc. The tix for the pit were $200 each I think (off eBay -- hadda do it).
Also, I had comparable tix (but I wasn't early enough to be front row in the pit) for Alpine Valley same tour, and MSG the night before (front row again, in front of Ed, but no camera).

That was my first RH show. The lakefront vista, the beautiful night, Thom's atypical loquacity, almost perfect...but I was too damn far away! When they came around in '03, I made sure I saw 'em frequently and up close for 3 of the 5 shows I attended.

I got lucky for Hutchinson (of course I got there at 10am)... right on the center aisle, about 50 feet back. Seeing the skyline to the left, lake to the right, and RH straight ahead. Words can't describe. I've got a recording of the show that's pretty good, but just doesn't do justice.
In '03 I saw them in Alpine Valley and the next day in St Louis. The Alpine Valley show was perfect (right next to soundboard); I just wish St Louis was as good, but I blame the venue for that. Got both of those shows on cd too.
Can't wait to see them at Roo. It's gonna be a glorious day...

What, have you been stalking me? I was at those three shows you mentioned, also. The biggest pain in the ass was getting out of Alpine's parking lot. Alpine-pit, UMB Pavilion-pavilion seats.

Last year's tour with the Greencards? I saw that tour at Slugger Field in Louisville and it was really great. Dylan and his band were the best I'd ever seen them in my opinion, and the setlist was full of great song choices. Willie was pretty good, definitely not the best I'd seen him.

I usually prefer smaller shows, though festivals are almost just as good. So far, my favourite shows have been "Wintersleep" "Pilate" and "Pearl Jam"
if you haven't heard of wintersleep or pilate i definitely recommend looking them up. they are the sort of band who hasn't struck it big yet so you can see them in small clubs, etc.
i am sure radiohead will be added to my list, probably #1.

This is tough. being a crusty old phish kid id have to say 7/11/00 deer creek, or 11/9/98 UIc, chicago. The it festival was sick too but does that count? Maybe the Air-traffic control tower set could count as a single show, that was ridiculous! Its pretty hard to pick a non phish show, but maybe after radiohead this year......

This is a very tough question.I cant bring myself to say best but this would definitley be up there. I saw stevie ray vaughn at val du lakes the same year he died in a plane crash. he was amazing.he played for the longest time and was mind blowing.(honorable mention George Clinton) saw george in detroit he played so long they turned the lights on to try and make him stop, continued to play till 6 in morning and they cut the power

I'd have to say that the best show I've ever seen was NIN/Queens of the Stone Age/Death From Above 1979 in Nashville, TN on Halloween night. The atmosphere mixed with the music and created one of the most euphoric nights of my life. It was perfect.
However, I expect that show to take the backseat when Bonnaroo 2006 rolls around...
