Also just wanted to mention the fact that Bonnaroo seems to be selling fast now. According to the web page superfly believes the will sell out prior to the show. This should put to rest all the rumors about a slow year with nobody showing up. Come on, ITS BONNAROO. Has it ever NOT been a kick ass party. This year will certainly be no different.
lol.... i agree that its probably just marketing. but i really cant complain about them trying to motivate people to get a ticket. thats what they are suopposed to do. its not nearly as shameful as many of the other things they have done to turn an xtra buck

i feel that they are trying to sell tickets, btu they could also be selling out. the line-up this year is so diverse and wonderful that i wouldn't be surprised if they did sell out

Maybe tickets are selling out and the're not just saying it. I wouldn't say this is shameful, I mean, if you guys had a festival wouldn't you want to sell as many tickets as possible?
"i Oh please list all the SHAMEFUL things Bonnaroo has done to try to make money.
they sold out cats music for the sole reason that they couldnt pay as much for the spot as tower records. even though they had provided 3 great years of services. superfly even told cats that they didnt care if there was a cd tent or not and that tower was able to pay more so they get the spot.
they sent a letter to tlg saying that it was their policy to not have bands return back to back years. tlg is as hot as could be and would be an awesome addition. instead they have mmj back for the third year ina row and mtv poster boy matisyahu back again.
that brings me to the shift in lineup. they have obviously gone wit a more mainstream lineup this year and i believe it is solely to draw in the yuppie fans with daddys car and mommys money to come and buy alot of "super cool" stuff at roo. they know a lot of hippies are buying from unofficial vendors and surviving on shrooms and water so they can make it to the next festival. i di like alot of these bands and am looking forward to seeing them but it is a change in the lineup. less jam. more death cab, bright eyes, common, matisyahu, dresden dolls, cypress hill etc... even beck and petty fit in there too im willing to give them the benfit of the doubt on radiohead. i know they have wanted them since that start. i dont think it fits roo that well but i dont see them as part of the shift to make bucks. just someone they have wanted for a long time.
the ticket charges are crazy! this issnt ticket master. dont advertise the price at one number and then jack it up 30 bucks. as i have said before im going to sell my car for 2 grand, and then when they pay ill say its 2500 with service charges. its a ripoff.
they reduced capacity to 2003 levels for our comfort. well last year was the same number of people as it will be if it sells out this year. the late nights were allready over packed last year. now they take away the second stage latenight and the overcrowding of the latenight tents will be even worse. dosent sound like increased comfort to me. oh and they were sure to increase the ticket prices to make up for the reduction
some minor issues
why cant we get a schedule. sure there is 40 bands im fired up to see but i only get to see half of them. other fests like 10klf give us the schedule right away so we can make an informed decision.
we should be able to brign our own beverages into centeroo. its a rip to make us buy their overpriced stuff. but thats the norm everywhere.
thers a few for ya. this post is getting oversized though and im not hating. just discussing. like ive said before i love america but ill bitch all day about our government. i love roo but superfly is not too great.

And all this time i thought companies existed for the sole purpose of making our lives better. You mean to tell me they actually want to make MONEY???? What a bunch of greedy money-loving bastards
well there are good ways to make money and bad ways. advertising a price that isnt the price is a bad way. saying you dont care about services provided or 3 years of excellence and only care about who will pay the most for the spot is also bad. its definetly good to turn a buck. but do it in an honest and fair way.
i almost forgot to mention the branson type tourist trap thing. they wanna turn a grass roots festival into a mainstream tourist trap. and they are doing a pretty good job. that is my problem

Man, all that bad karma and you're still a crybaby.
Yes it sucks Cat's music got the axe, but shit like that happens. On top of that, you're basing your opinion soley on the owner's plea to inforoo. It's not like any of us were actually there during negotiations to know what kind of exchange there was between the two parties.
On top of that, you're major complaint about the lineup seems to be completely bunk, bogus and ill-informed. But no matter how many times we go over the fact that none of the bands you claim are MTV bands ever really make it on MTV, you persist on stereotyping all the bands that you don't like at roo as being only there to get the cash of yuppies whom you seem to despise anyway so what the hell do you care?
Honestly, you guys can complain about the Superfly guys selling out all you want, but the fact remains they put together the most eclectic, compelling music festival of the summer not called JazzFest. I live in Austin. We have ACL Fest and SXSW. You want to talk about festivals that screw over music fans and musicians alike, talk about Lewis Black and Charles Attal. So like I said, you can whine and bitch about the lineup not being jam enough for you or your favorite record store not getting a booth spot. But the fact is the artists at Roo get paid, the fans get treated to easily the most well respected festival each year and, most importantly, you actually get a lineup before you have to drop a massive wad of cash on a total gamble.
Sorry to sound so harsh, but honestly, the complaints about Bonnaroo I see on these boards are piddle compared to the crap ACL and SXSW pull.
by the way the ticket sales alone generate 16 million dollars. i know they arent paying that much to artists. that probably covers all of the bands, trash pickup, security, insurance and the rest of the overhead.
then they make twice that much off of the vending. i dont thin superfly was having trouble turning a profit. its not like these are things that need to be done to keep roo afloat. its just trying to milk every last penny they can. we the fans have become a numbers and stats. its all about maximizing profit.

what ever man... the dude asked me for a list so i gave him one. once again i thoguht it was clear that i like alot of the bands that are ont the list. i guess if i have to be classifiede as a crybaby because we disagree then i am glad im a crybaby about legitimate issues and not a crybaby about someonelse opinion.... that would be truly being a whiney crybaby

You think they make 16 million times two from the vending? Not in their wildest dreams. They charge the official vendors a fee then the vendors get to keep the profits.
The bottom line is that Bonnaroo books the most adventurous, eclectic lineup around while making the overall experience top-rate for the fans. The sound and lights are first rate. The art installations are inredibly creative and cool. The porta potties last year were nearly spotless. I was shocked and pleased with that development. The muddy areas in Centeroo of earlier years now have those temporary roads laid over them. The water stations were improved drastically last year for them to avoid becoming mud pits. Less mud equals more comfort. I even witnessed crews spreading fresh hay over areas in Centeroo at 5pm on Sunday last year. The festival was hours from being over and they were still trying their best to keep the grounds in good shape for the fans. They push each year to make the event more progressive and groundbreaking than the last. The corporate sponsors are kept to a minimum and provide cool services like free wireless internet, free cds to burn, broadcasting performances live on XM radio, free batting cages and the like. None of the stages are named after corporate sponsors like almost every other major festival in the country. They improve the traffic flow and organization of the entire event each year.
I feel like Bonnaroo gets better with age. I know lots of people think the first was the best, but I keep having a better and better time each year.
The people that put this on make shit loads of money, no doubt. And they should. They put so much into it and they are rewarded handsomely. They just need to stop raising ticket prices each year.
well i wasnt asked to list the good things they do or my list might have looked like yours . i was asked about the bad. and the vendors do not just pay a fee.
heres the food vendor info The rent for each 10 x 10 space will be a $2,000.00 guaranteed flat fee or a percentage of gross sales, whichever is higher. All guarantees must be paid before the event. Percentages will be determined with each vendor individually. Percentage of gross sales will range from 25 percent to 35 percent depending on complexity of menu items. and thats 25 - 35 percent of your gross. thats has nothing to do with profits. it means every dollar you spend on food 25 - 35 cents of it goes into superflys pocket. thats quite a large tax
the non food people are just paying a fee for the space. but you gotta sell alotta stuff to make up that 2600 dollar fee.
also its kinda funny that they advertise 90000 people to the vendors and yet they reduced the size for our comfort. they must have selective memory depending on how well it benefits their sales pitch
if you wanna bitch about my opinions then at least check the facts so we can avoid un-needed flaming based on someones false info

Is it just me, or is the topic of this thread uncannily ironic considering what the discussion has moved to?
I think dudewheresmyroo??? is bringing up legitimate points... but the fact he's going to bonnaroo puts them in perspective. Yeah they reduced capacity because they didnt sell out last year and hiked the price and promoted it as in more limited supply... Do you expect them to admit they have falling attendance and need to cut attendance to boost profit? I'm sure thatd help the future of Roo...
Sorry to sound so harsh, but honestly, the complaints about Bonnaroo I see on these boards are piddle compared to the crap ACL and SXSW pull.
I can't speak for SXSW because it's not really my thing and I feel it is a big rip-off, but ACL has been pretty great. ACL tickets are extremely cheap and their line up is fantastic. What "shameful" things has ACL done that are on par or even worse than the things dudewheresmyroo listed about Bonaroo?
well i kinda took it as the thread had 2 meanings to it.
and also lets not forget the fact that we arent getting dvds anymore. they must not have been making enough loot to provide such a grat service to fans.
Yes, back to Bonnaroo selling out in the literal sense. I think their message was a marketing technique to push more ticket sales -- and its working. I told my friend about the message and he's being his ticket tonight.
