I'm using Limewire right now but as I'm sure most of you know it kinda sucks. So do I have to download both Azureus and OiNK??
Oink is the website where you download from. Azureus is the client that downloads it for you. So you just need to download Azureus. I also go to filemp3.org, but it doesn't have anywhere near the selection that Oink does - the problem is that Oink is invite only.....
What happens if my tee shot lands on a bird's back and he carries it out of bounds but then is attacked by a larger bird who grabs the ball and drops it in the hole? Is that still a hole in one? 'Cause that's how I'm gonna play it.

the majority of torrents are of live shows and they're free. the programs you need to download and convert them are free as well. here's a couple of sites to check to see the kinds of music available

I would post a torrents thread, but I dont know how touchy the mods are about that stuff. When in doubt shut your mouth.
Bittorrent is pretty much the 1000lb bull of downloading right now. Nothing beats it for speed, quality, and resources. For anyone unclear on how bittorrent works here ya go. 1) Download a "Client". A client is a BT program that will allow you to download what are called torrent files (see step 2) which link you to the actual physical file on what is called a tracker. A tracker is just a fancy term for someplace files are uploaded to.
2) Find a good webpage for torrents (Demonoid, Oink, Mininova, tons more). If you are looking for an Elliott Smith CD simply search, and click on the desired page. Within this page somewhere there will be a hotlink that says something like "Download This Torrent/File/etc". It will then prompt you to either open it with a program, or save to disc. Open it up with the "Client" you downloaded earlier, choose which directory you want to save it to and boom.
Soulseek is also another great resource. I use this mainly to get harder to find things that arent on torrent pages. Just google it, make sure the web url is slsknet .de or org.
I was born in the back seat of a Yellow Cab in a hospital loading zone and with the meter still running. I emerged needing a shave and shouted 'Time Square, and step on it!
i prefer bit torent/azeureus also. and they have a ton of albums, not just live shows.
but if your looking for live shows check www.archive.org if they have it its quicker and easier. and many of the live shows can be downloaded as mp3's instead of the flacs available on bittorrent. usually takes files freom gigs down to 100 mb or or so. and also on many of the posts you can listen to without haveing to download. just plays off the site.
also they 2,782 dead shows. thanks to bob weir's greedy nature you cant download most of them. but you can listen off the site.

I was totally ignorant to this until last July when I went to bt.etree (don't remember how I was directed there; certainly didn't find it on my own)and downloaded quite a few performances from 'roo '06. I was ecstatic! and it wasn't too awfully hard to figure out, just a little patience.
I have never once been able to download a show off of dimeadozen.org. I use oink now (thanks Steve), but always used bt.etree and archive.org prior to that.
you dont really have to worry about seeders and leechers. im not positive but i think its the amount of people offering it for download are seeders and those downlading it are leeches. so if there are zero seeders it wont download. but other then that i just ignore those things.
flacs are a pain in the arse. i always convert them to wav files or mp3 and play them in itunes. i use flac frontend. heres a link to where you can download it. i didnt notice it doing anything funny as far as adware or spyware but who knows. its a free download.

Totally newbie question: What do you use to play flac files?
flac frontend as posted by dudewheresmyroo has a codec in it that will allow WinAmp to play flac files without converting them - so you keep the high quality of the large file.
