I support the Wire>Sops side of the GOAT drama debate, but I've never been more engulfed in a world and attached to the characters as I was with Sopranos on the first run through. Tony is my favorite TV character ever in a landslide. Chris is legend as well. Such a funny show. dahh I may need to try to rewatch again.

I feel like The Wire>Sopranos opinion is more common than Sopranos>The Wire. I binged both back to back and still think Sopranos is better. While I think that Seasons 3, 4, and 1 of The Wire are some of the greatest seasons of television ever, I think the Sopranos brought it every season. I also will stand by the Sopranos as being the funniest "drama" of all time (though I am currently watching Deadwood and it is not far behind).

I love Tony getting back at the guy who was going to sell him the beach house but won't let him out of the deposit by playing loud music on the boat outside their place. Some of that revenge that isn't violent is the best. Same for Junior pie-facing the woman who gossiped about him "going downtown".

I love "The Test Dream". Such an awesome episode. The extended dream sequence one in season 5. So damn good. Everything about it is mesmerizing. The dream sequences up until this were always decent but this was fantastic.

Always so disappointed with AJ's storyline arc in the final season. I really, really wanted to see him take after his dad and find himself in the mob family but him bitching out was typical. I guess it is more "true to character" and all that but after AJ gave the monologue to his dad in the hospital about how he'd get back at uncle june (not to mention the storyline parallels of AJ having long hair and flunking out of college like Young Tony) made me think he'd go in a different direction. Oh well.
That seemed to be a reoccurring theme throughout the series in which the show portrayed struggles of an American family vs a stereotypical mafia family. Teens facing depression isn't often depicted that well in television. The fact that the show does this throughout its run is interesting (depict everyday struggles).
Was it me, or was Dr. Melfi annoying af? She was annoying in Goodfellas as well.

I love the scene either near the end or in the actual finale when tony tries to reminisce with an unable to remember junior about how they used to have their thing/how it used to be. I think junior is in a wheelchair and its in some sort of nursing home or something. blah I can barely remember.

Sopranos cleared the way for The Wire and got people used to the idea that overarching storylines (as opposed to case of the week stories) could be compelling and just as good (if not better) than the other shows out there. Both series made people re-learn how to watch TV shows.
They are totally different though. The Wire was more about institutions and the benefits/problems inherent in different systems. There were some lead roles and some quirky characters but both shows were going for different things. I think they both really hold up.
I've been sitting on the finale of Sopranos a little while. All caught up on the re-watch but haven't taken the plunge to watch the last episode ever again. Probably in the next few days.
