Snoochio I think you have the prize so far for most liberal, or is that a misnomer here?
Doesn't suprise me in the least. I am originally from Youngstown, Ohio. It's an old steel town between Cleveland and Pittsburgh. Heart of the rust belt, so I am no stranger blue collar toiling, and what it has amounted to. Know a few "Rosie the Riveters"(women who welded for the WW2 effort") and would be banished from my old town, if I thought for a minute, that reaganomics was anything but voodoo. Graduated w/ a degree in Political Science from Youngstown State U, and have been sowing the seeds of nonviolent revolution ever since. Even my buddy in the ACLU is less liberal than me. Heroes would include Mother Jones, Che, and Woody Guthrie.
It's a lonely world for a passionate guerilla warrior alright. When I first started lurking here, I expected to find many more kindred souls.
Now I just expect to convert a bunch of you, piss off a few of you, and embolden the rest of you.
Whose comin' to Washington with Me , Troo, and Danbird the next big march ? I'll even supply the orange t-shirts !

Yeah, just about where I suspected....about as far away from most of my neighbors as I could get.... ;D
Though closer to one of my pure Libertarian friends than he would ever admit....his quote:" What do I want from my government? Say it with me: “defend the country, protect the rights of the citizens, and precious little else.”.....ok, the precious little else part would need to expand a bit, especially the wallet

Since so far I am the second high score on the "liberal" scale so far I guess I can volunteer to be the token "guerilla rebel chicka"....I wasn't front row at the Nightwatchman just for the view My grandmother was a union supporter from the time they started them....she would curse and argue with anyone that had anything bad to say about unions because she could remember working in the days BEFORE unions and what it was like.....I am a third generation working woman.....most of my friends had stay-home moms....I had no concept of what that was....but I knew what the glass ceiling and gender discrimination was from the time I was 8 years old......
Ya know(and this half deserves to go in the pet peeve thread), I get really bummed out with a lot of my peers who find it necessary to union bash. I too, have been screwed by the bastardization of the union premise. I worked for a couple of summers on county road crews. The summer help did all of the mowing, hotpatching, painting etc. for about 9 bucks an hour, while the lazy ass entitled old men sat and collected their 30 bucks an hour for playing cards. We(summer help) were forced to join the union and pay pretty large membership dues for our three months a year. And then penalized when we needed to pull our $ out of the retirement fund for the sake of just living on(books for college, food for belly, corn for head). Not a fair scenario at all.
However, where many of my friends are apt to tell their similar stories in order to bash the union, thereby unwittingly jumping on the Limbaugh bandwagon, i can't. The difference to me is this. When you look historically at the role of the union, it's good has FAR exceeded it's evils. Guaranteed lunchbreaks, two other breaks a day by law, overtime. The notion of the WEEKEND for christ sakes. I don't feel it is my place to jump in and bash the PREMISE of something that has been led to the edge of inexistence by it's leadership. I think it is high time we take control and make it what it was, rather than throw weight onto a sinking ship.
When I look back at the work experiences I have had in my life, I can't help but think how enriched they would have been with a little SOLIDARITY. That also holds true for the world around me. Everyone is in such a race to benefit themselves, that noone sees what it is doing to all of us as a whole. And that's too bad. People like Mother Jones sacrificed everything they had and more-all so the union could be strong and build on their sacrifices. Now we have union leadership that expect the union to be strong for them and only them. And how easy they make it for the anti union contingent to turn our workers against us. It's a manipulation. We need to resharpen the union as a tool and as a premise. And sacrifice like never before to honor the likes of people who did it for us. "Look around, F*ck what you heard".
"Now clap LOUDER. Look around you people. That's SOLIDARITY. Now stop clapping...."

Any time you organize people there will be waste and corruption. It is human nature. I therefore look at Unions as a "necessary evil." Like organized religion. Few of the "union bashers"would say that religion is unnecessary because there is corruption in some organizations.
Unions are the only counter to corporate power. To dismiss them is to entirely trust your employer to do what's right by you. And history shows unequivocally that business WILL abuse the worker if allowed. Unions give the worker some say in their work environment.
Since Reagan began dismantling unions, average worker salaries have not kept up with inflation (except during Clinton's term.) And notice that it's the Non-union mines where miners are dying. Just a coincidence?
Frankly I would rather have too much power in the hand of people supposedly supporting me than in people against me. But that's just me. (and I guess that's why I'm a -7 on the left scale)

Absolutely! Unions vote in their leaders....they can vote them out! Anywhere there is money, there is going to be corruption, but that doesn't mean you have to put up with it, but turning over the leadership FREQUENTLY....to LOTS of different groups of people you can cut down on any one group of people gaining and keeping control. It's getting people organized and willing to do that.....convincing the people IN power that giving UP power is in their best interest....most people aren't willing to see that.
"Now clap LOUDER. Look around you people. That's SOLIDARITY. Now stop clapping...."
LOL! I LOVE IT! "Now stop clapping...." that would be Authoritarian right???? TSK......

Left/Lib, thats me!
Some of those questions, I was like duh, of course. But them when you think about it, there are people out there that will answer the opposite of you.
Like "You can not be moral unless your religious" WTF???? Of course you can! But there are people out there who believe morality and religion are one in the same....

I guess I am only evil in my personal relationships. I think I will send this to my sisters since one of them selected their last president based upon not trusting the other guy's eyes.
I have a funny feeling it is easier to be honest when nothing is at stake. When the rubber meets the road, and the choices are limited by corporate sponsorship of electoral politics, I guess we all move way to the northeast of where we say we are naturally.

I very much disagree with that statement! I do not move from my "southwest" point on the scale no matter whos around or what the circumstance!
My candidate never wins, but I will never believe I am "Wasting a vote on someone who cant win" when I am supporting the person who best represents my views!
You cant wrap us all up neatly in one tortilla together.
GO KUCINICH!!!!

How will you manage this vote in the General Election? I don't see Kucinich making it that far and he is still a Democrat, so he will likely bow out of the running.
I know many who voted Nader and frankly, the result is what we have had for the last 6 and 1/2 years. I don't get how that furthered the Green policies espoused by Candidate Nader or the people that supported him.

Ugh. . .my brother voted for Nader, and I will never forgive him for it!
