I just went to check my status on Oink and I sadly found that Oink has been shut down. There is only a picture of waffles remaining where there was once a treasure trove of music.
If you didn't know what Oink was, it was a torrent tracker that required an invite and for members to keep up their ratio. This facilitated faster downloads, more selection and less torrent death. I received my invite from an Inforooer and have been very grateful for it.
We will miss you Oink. If anyone hears anything about something similar being born, please let us all know. There will be a new site called Boink, but it will not track ratios and it will be public, so it will not be the same.
Ah, such is the plight of music downloads... one must be constantly searching for the next good thing, while mourning the loss of what once once. Does anyone remember Audiogalaxy from back in the day? That was one of my favorite downloading methods. I am just as sad as I was the day Audiogalaxy left us.

Trippindaisy: No, you shouldn't be paranoid. I read somewhere that Oink had something like 180,000 users. There is no way they could track down everyone.
I have to wonder if they have not had Waffles planned all along. It seems as though they were ready for the destruction and rebuilding of the pink palace.

That is what I mean about being paranoid. How do we know who is running this? It could be one huge trap. They are asking for proof that you belonged to Oink...... I think I watch too many movies
^^^1. Quite convincing, if so. 2. They can't arrest people before actually sharing anything. 3. Setting up a server and luring people there in order to share, then jumping on them with fines/arrests could easily be argued as entrapment.

damn this sux. if anyone has an invite to a decent site it would be much appreciated! ;D
i say fuck musicians. if you dont put on a good enough show to make a living off of touring then give up music and go work at k-mart!! i will never understand why athletes and musicians bitch about making millions for doing something they love. i say fuck em and dont support them in anyway if they are apart of the whining about downloading. id be happy to have enough money to keep the bus running and tour. do it out of love of music not love of money. damn i hate our world!!!
