The Giving Tree is way more bleak than I remember.
In between my relistens of Pure Comedy I was able to check out the new Happyness album Write In. It's some really solid fuzzy, alt rock. Hits similar feels for me as someone like Mac Demarco or DIIV, but doesn't really sound a whole lot like either. I recommend y'all check it out.

So is there any chance of any album besides Damn winning this month?
No, but that's a chance I don't vote for it. Just on first listen, it's not living up to the last 2 albums.
I'll second that first listen thought. It doesn't seem as dynamic as his previous stuff. It's cohesive, but not really in a way that strikes me. I think the production has a lot to do with it. Several more listens to come, though.

Are we saying this because it's not explicitly a concept album, though?
P.S. : Yes, I know about the idea of it being a concept if the second album comes Sunday, but my point remains the same.

Oh shit, I knew nothing about a supplemental album coming out on Sunday. I'm apparently just not paying attention. Those are just my thoughts for what this is, on first listen. And there seems to be a common thread throughout this one, it's just one that didn't interest me at first as much as Section .80, Good Kid, TPAB, and even untitled did. We'll see. My first listen opinions always change, obviously.

No, it just wasn't as exciting. I wasn't excited by untiled either. I was referring to GKMC and TPAB. I mean, he's still the best rapper alive, but this album didn't blow me away immediately like the others did.
