This month may have the most good albums of any month since we started doing this.
GYBE Mogwai The National LCD Zola Jesus Chelsea Wolfe Myrkur Susanne Sundfor Daughter Rostam Mutemath Hundred Waters Death From Above Circa Survive Toadies Jessica Lea Mayfield
Haven't listened to Wolves In The Throne Room or Metz yet. Torres and Ibeyi coming this week.
And funny enough, my current front runners aren't even on your list (Bicep and Odesza).
I did like DFA a lot, though.
I tried Odesza but only made it a couple of songs in. I've never listened to Bicep.
I feel like I've listened to so much good music this month, and then I look at my Spotify list and realize how much I haven't even dug into yet, and I'm pretty sure my lists were nowhere near as long as others who participate in this thread to begin with. I have a couple of options right now, but I am definitely not ready to make a decision.

This is my first month fully participating in this thread and it's gotten me to listen to a fuck ton more new albums. I think I'll be able to come up with a relatively solid top 10, but picking my #1 is gonna be tough.

I might have to go with Zola Jesus. I wasn't big on it the first time around but the more I listen to it the more I'm digging it (especially the back half of the album)
Bicep might still be my front runner atm, need to spend more time with Kolsch though.
Wolves, Chelsea, LCD, GY!BE and Myrkur are all strong HM for me.
LCD is amazing in the 4 song stretch of Other Voices > I Used To > Change Yr Mind > How do you Sleep. But I cringe every time Tonight starts. Oh Baby never goes anywhere and American Dream is alright. Call the Police and Emotional Haircut are good. I can't wait to hear some of these songs live, but it won't be taking my AotM nod.
I still need to get to Mogwai. And I'm only a song into UFOMAMMUT, but really liking it. I know there's still a few others I'm missing too.
Oh ya, and METZ. I've only got one listen to that one, but really enjoyed it. Need to throw it on again.

I've heard a million different takes on American Dream. No two people I've talked about it with have the same opinion. It's been awesome. One friend loves the first half and hates the second. Another insists Black Screen is the best song on the album. Some folks hate the slow ones, others don't think it's dancey enough. It's pretty great.
FWIW My favorites are Oh Baby, Other Voices, Tonight, and Call The Police. I think awesome all the way through with the exception of American Dream. It'll probably be my vote for the month.
Ah ya, I forgot about JASSS, I know you recommended that one. I was waiting on it to come out on Spotify so I can have it for offline listening. It's on the list for tonight! Same with Steffi.

There's been some great afro beat jazz/funk this month too.
The soul jazz orchestra put out a good one, the new antibalas record is a concept album that is really good, and Tony Allen (former fela kuti drummer) put out an art Blakey tribute EP and a phenomenal album of originals.

Amadou & Mariam too
That Antibalas record is seriously fucking great though

So funny, my favorite 4 song stretch is I used to > Tonite.... lol
Co-signed. Especially because it's one of the best releases of the month.
I loved the epic, but could never find 3 hours to devote to it. This is 30 minutes of great throwback jazz. Pretty accessible too.
Agreed. I had it on in the office and everyone approved which never happens. It's great.
The Epic... I mean, it's next to impossible to have three free hours to do anything. Fortunately it's easy enough to just hop in at any old point. The only time I made it all the way through without stopping was when I walked around The Met all afternoon. It was a pretty unique situation to be in because you're totally engage in something but not talking to anyone for hours on end.
