also seeing Glass Onion Wednesday because that is the ONE movie I cannot tolerate being spoiled on
Let us know what you think about "She Said". I'm interested but I can't tell how well written it is.
Pretty standard Oscar fare. Doesn't quite reach the heights of an All The President's Men or Spotlight, nor does it have as strong a cast or script. Still a very solid movie. Don't regret spending the time, but probably won't be thinking about it five or six years down the line.
Finally saw Banshees and thought it was really good, but idk if I enjoyed it. Very much a downer. But yeah Colin and Brendan both deserve accolades, as well as Barry Keoghan and Kerry Condon.
Apparently me and the other handful of people I saw SHE SAID with were the only ones who saw the movie
This came up with the Bob Iger return discussion yesterday with a group of friends, but it seems anything that's "streambale" - where you know you don't "need" to see it in theaters based on the visuals - is being abandoned at the theaters. Between the high cost, covid reverberations, access to streaming networks that put up movies 3 months after they're out in theaters, and lack of interest in "movies for grown ups" as a whole...why would people see a movie about people talking?
Terrible theater etiquette is what's been keeping me away from theaters along with inflated prices. I paid $25 dollars to see Banshees of Inisherin w/ medium popcorn just for three boomer ladies one row ahead of me to talk through most of the movie. Could have just waited a couple more months and not had either of those issues.

We've been going to Alamo Drafthouse (there's one in lower Manhattan that's super easy to get to from JC) because of their no phones / talking policy. It ends up being pretty expensive when all's said and done because we always get drinks and snacks, but it's a way better experience than AMC or Regal.

I had a awful experience watching Triangle of Sadness with this couple to the right of me explaining everything going on in a louder than quiet theater voice. Then towards the last 30 mins, they got on their bright phones. If I didn't have the AMC pass, I would have asked for my money back. There's a lot of reasons to why these movies are bombing and it's not just subject matter. But hey, Scorcese and all those old school Hollywood directors, keeping saying it's comic book movies to why Hollywood is dying.
