my first was done just for the sake of having a tattoo. the rest were done because i loved the feeling of getting the first. while i am getting ink done i tell myself "beauty is pain, pain is beauty" and it gets me through the session. there is something about that "cat-scratching" feeling that is addicting.
Wait til you get your elbows done and it turns into 'This QUACKIN sucks' real fast. ;D

My first one was done pretty willy nilly... but now, I agree. There is something addicting about getting it done. I love the feeling of them, but my foot hurt like hell. I love how beautiful it is now, but at the time, i was thinking, "what the hell have I gotten into?" Speaking of... I promised a new photo of it...

cant say from experience since i dont have my elbows done. however, i do have a good size piece on my sternum, and that was pretty painful. also, my lower back towards the sides werent all laughs.
i do have to say, though, i think the calf is not that bad. i was apprenticing in a shop for like a month, and did one on each calf (easiest place to do self tattooing). of course, since i was new to the profession they came out like crap, and one is now completely covered up. the other will get fixed up someday. perhaps when im done with my backpiece.

oh no doubt they are very addicting, piercings as well. My rib cage hurt like hell, but was satisfying at the same time. Same wih my piercings. I dont think I have been at peace with myself more in the past year than I have for those 2 hours I was getting tattooed. I know its totally masochistic, but as soon as I got my rib cage done I was planning my next one.
Why thank you...and yes I know people loooove to smite opinions all the time on here...but that's okay because it's not real karma anyway. If it was...I would probably be okay. haha.
I have a question then...what made you want to have a tattoo or piercing?
I just would really hate to have to feel things that aren't supposed to be on the body when I want to be intimate with my significant other. I want to just feel the skin and not metal.
And I say that quote for the majority of people who get tattoos or piercings done. Because really at some point most of those people saw a tattoo or a piercing on someone else and then decided that they would also look good with one...and half the time they just don't. I can't wait to see our generation when we are old and wrinkly...all of those pieces that have been done to the body aren't going to look so hot later. And yeah I know that is one of the main arguments for people against them too but it's true...it's going to look retarded when you get old.
Don't get me wrong though...I'm not against it completely...I just don't care. Do what you will...Love ya guys. Don't hit me!
I wouldnt disgree with you... I say the alot of tattoos I see are tasteless and not thought through. The same reasons that you dont like tattoos are the same reasons I like tats and piercings. I think it adds to the beauty of the human body (again noting if they are tastefully done). I understand the natural approach to sex and whatnot but I dont have any piercings I cant take out. Actually if you were to pass me on the street right now, my nose is the only "body modification" that is visible and the diamond in it is so small half the time people dont even notice. I have 2 tattoos and 8 piercings(if you count the lobes as 2). I never had the intention of saying "hey look at what I did to myself, does it make me cool?" I have a "professional" job, and while I dont necessarily agree that what you choose to put on your body defines you as a person, its usually frowned upon in the "professional" world.
And as for when I get older--is anything on me gonna really look hot when my skin is saggy--ink or not? ;D
And bill I understand what your saying about the rebellious thing however it would be rebellious if I was say 14 and my parents didnt want me doing it. While its taboo to an extent, its also widely accepted to an extent. I think those that find it highly offensive are my grandmas age and are dying off, probably the same that would find homosexuality highly offensive. Theres a word I want to use for it, but I dont have it right now.
I'm not saying either that I wouldn't have a partner who had any of the above...I just love the naturalness, that's all. And if you can take your piercings out, then that is pretty okay with me. My ex had a few things pierced. I made her take out her belly button ring though at times because I just like to feel a stomach without having to go around the metal.
And you got me on the growing old part...I guess all I can say is that it's going to look worse than an old person who doesn't have anything at all. I would guess...But yeah, at such an old age it really doesn't even matter though.
I have a question then...what made you want to have a tattoo or piercing?
i saw someone with a septum ring and thought it looked badass. now, i like my septum ring, although 99% of the time, i wear a retainer. i like knowing its there, when someone else doesnt.
as for my tragus, i saw someone when i went to london for the first time with that pierced and was amazed. a few years later, i found myself in london on the way home from traveling abroad for a few months in college, i decided to get mine pierced sort of as a remembrance of the entire experience.
like others said, i have them for me, not for you.

^^^i remember when i had my septum pierced. as you, i mainly would wear the retainer. i will agree with those that have said it--"i did it for me, not for anyone else". my tattoos are in places, when wearing plain clothes, that no one really sees. once i finish school and have a job i can live with i will get more visible tattoos

To me it hurt so good. The first time you feel it means your too late to go back. I think the mind exercise of forcing yourself through the pain was one of my favorite parts.

fyi, that one month stint was all i did.
Sternum sucks but that divit in your neck is the worst. I thought my elbows hurt but dear god. If you like pain go with this one.
I sit like a champ for my calf. I agree it's pretty easy. There are some places you know that are just gonna hurt. Ribs, Neck,Elbows , any place where there isn't alot of meat. But I also think that it comes down to the tattoist themselves. Some hurt way more than others.

^ My artist told me any place that is ticklish is gonna be a rough spot. Dear Trey was he right. As soon as he started nearing the back side of my armpit and my side I started clenching pretty tight. I've sat 8 hours without a problem but those areas were pretty damn rough. I'm definitely not too excited about my elbows or the underside of my upper arm during my sleeve but that's gonna be a while down the road.
I recently went with a friend to get his collarbone done and it looked pretty rough as well.

I've been thinking about getting Mule's quatrodose symbol on my foot. The band and their music mean a lot to the hubby and me. I just don't want to wait 2 weeks to get back to swimming. Is there anything I could cover it with while in the pool?

Why'd you quit the apprenticeship?
it wasnt like i intentionally quit the apprenticeship. the shop closed down. i never went to any school, or got certified. it was more of just luck that i got to do it. at the time, one of my friend's girlfriend's mother owned the shop. they lost an employee and so the opportunity just came up. in all actuallity (sp?), i was doing more piercings than anything.

I doubt you would want to take that risk. There are water proof bandages and tape and such but in doing that you risk not only ruining the work but also getting all kinds of infections.

I actually got a karma out of this...surprised.
Anyway. I have been pierced though before...I kinda miss it. But I got my ear gauged one time. I had never been pierced before and I went straight to an 8 gauge. Hardcorrrre!

This - I have three tattoos and if you don't know me and know I have them - you never would. They are not in places where anyone sees them on an average day. The are easily covered for work and the professional world and if I want them show - it's just as easy to put on a strappy tank top

I got my tattoo last Wednesday, and it is scabbing some kind of funky. I was using some lotion; unscented, all natural, and with tea tree oil. Then today a friend of mine gave me some Vitamin A&D ointment, so I put some of that on. Ever since I put the ointment its like it just turned goopy and made them all wet, so now I'm worried about cleaning it and all my goopy scabbing just rubbing right off and I'll be left with a shit load of touch up work here in a few weeks. Can anyone tell me which I should stick to using?
Post by billclinton on Apr 5, 2009 19:44:40 GMT -5
I was told pretty much the same thing, but then 2 friends who both have 5ish tattoos both told me A&D ointment works better. But yeah I'm thinking just let it be until all the nuts dries out and just go back to my regular routine. I can't even quacking pat it dry or the towel will stick to all my goopy scabs and pull them up! God dammit.
you need to let it dry out. i was told to wash it four times a day with unscented soap. pat it dry do not rub it with a towel. then put lotion on it. lubriderm is the best thing you can put on it. you want to avoid ointments. and try to avoid letting your clothes rub it.

I'd only use A&D ointment the first couple of days after getting it, my artist told me it can pull some of the ink out if you overuse it (or something to that effect).
His instructions for the scabbing, is just to use Lubriderm, I apply it a couple of times a day and it does wonders for the drying and cracking. Just avoid picking those scabs.

The instructions I got were A&D ointment 3x a day for 3 days, and then Lubriderm 3x a day for 3 weeks. Worked just fine for me. It was quite hilarious how attached I was to my lubriderm bottle though -- I was a total FREAK about my tattoo not getting messed up probably because I waited so long to get it...
Yeah I haven't picked or scratched at it at all. How did you guys clean yours? I've been getting a sink full of warm soap water and kind of setting my atm down in it, then lightly rubbing and splashing water on my tattoo. That's the only way I could think of doing it without scrubbing.
I just wash it with non sudsy hand soap (softsoap or whatever the brand is) until it heals. I don't use a washcloth or a loofa or anything to scrub it, I just use my hands, and I don't use a towel to dry it, use soft paper towels to pat it dry.
Also, a few minutes after you get out of the shower, go ahead and apply some lubriderm, cause bathing will make the tattoo hella dry

My tattoo artist told me use a small amount of Dawn and warm water the first two days and then unscented bar soap (because all liquid soap is somewhat scented) and warm water the rest of the time. Also, he said use Curel Continuous Comfort Fragrance Free lotion as soon as you pat it dry out of the shower. As said above, bathing dries things out. But the Curel is good because it's water based and absorbs quite quickly. And also because it has a time release deal so you don't have to reapply a whole lot. I was told by 3 different artists to only use lotion when it's feeling dry/tight/itchy because over using (ie the reason its all goopy and gross) will let the ink fade excessively during the healing process. Of course, every artist is going to tell you something different... I just know that I followed these instructions meticulously and mine is still as bright as the day we started and have never had a single issue during the healing process.

Yeah the A&D wsd way too wet anf I haven't used that since last night. It dried up finally and I put my usual lotion on before bed. Woke up to some significant scab reduction and a slight sunburn like peel. ;D
