figured an official thread is due now that the lineup is out...
Quite astounding, I must admit. IMO it's making the Bonnaroo leaks look pathetic. Then again that's a handful of names versus over 110. We'll see where things go from here.
You know, with the other threads about other fests the discussion is mainly around who's going... so, is anyone here planning on heading to Indio?
I was there in '04 and '06 but I have a conflict this year, so it's Roo for sure. That is a great line up tho', I'd be stoked for JAMC, Happy Mondays, RyG, Gillian Welch...
Was there really a great clamor for a Crowded House reunion?
What happens if my tee shot lands on a bird's back and he carries it out of bounds but then is attacked by a larger bird who grabs the ball and drops it in the hole? Is that still a hole in one? 'Cause that's how I'm gonna play it.
The second day looks awesome, but if I go it's gonna be the 3rd day, to see Rage. I'm strongly considering a couple day jaunt out there. Thank god my uncle lives near by.
That's a pretty ballsy lineup though. I mean, you're banking a helluva lot on the Rage reunion draw. Outside of that, you have acts like Interpol, Arcade Fire, Arctic Monkeys or the Decemberists pretty far up on the bill, and those acts aren't exactly huge. And of those acts, only Arcade Fire has an exceptional live rep. Sunday looks pretty stacked and diverse. If I had to pick one day I'm jealous of, that would be the day.
an FYI, I have had heard pretty mediocre things about Jose Gonzalez from a few friends who've seen him live. My advice: avoid the OC generated hype. You're better off seeing Peter Bjorn & John on Saturday for your Swedish pop fix.

I was thinking the same thing, specifically about the Arcade Fire. I'm a big fan, but all the same they seem so immature to have 2nd billing, regardless of how acclaimed their live show is. But then again they seem to just have a skewed perception of that type of thing; parallel to them, they are billed higher than Willie Nelson, who clearly has accomplished so much more. Same could be said for Sonic Youth: do they deserve to be billed after Arctic Monkeys? But really this is nitpicking. If nothing else, it just illustrates how Coachella's emphasis is on the hip, the cutting edge, the here and now. That easily makes them the hippest festival in the country, but of course the downside is half of their lineup will be forgotten by next year.
That's the tour I missed. My roommates in college went, and I didn't get a ticket. My biggest regret for a missed concert ever, and the reason I'm really gonna have to try and catch them at Coachella.

That's true. I mean, if you want to see what acts will play Coachella next year, look to SXSW in the spring. But yeah, Coachella seems to be mostly about being cutting edge and getting hip reunions that people (hopefully) care about. It's sort of like Jesus & Mary Chain's billing so high on the list. Do that many people honestly care? No. But they're banking on the power of the reunion to create more of a draw cause they know pitchfork is going to almost soley report on a J&MC reunion or a Bjork headliner rather than the festivals biggest draws (Rage, Manu Chao, Tiesto, RHCP).
I don't know. I'll be most interested to see how the schedule changes, if they have longer setlists or later nights, etc. The diversity, especially on Sunday, is encouraging. Let's hope they take a cue from Roo and let the artists play a bit longer.
That third day looks so good I'd like to go. But I won't, hopefully Bonnaroo can give me something as great as that (they usually exceed Coachella for what I want to see, let's hope it continues).
I guess I'm the only one totally not impressed with this lineup. Mabye it's me but I have no interest in seeing Rage........period, and Bjork???? I'll pass. Just not for me.
Not to say there aren't some bands I'd like to see on that list....just not enough....
The top bands on Saturday look kinda bare. They have another band or two they are going to add to fill those spots. I believe last year Massive Attack and Madonna were announced later on.
Last year there were around 15 acts that cross overed with Bonnaroo. Looking at the acts, here are ones I see as being possible: Friday: Sonic Youth, DJ Shadow, Stephen Marley feat. Jr. Gong, Nickel Creek, Comedians of Comedy, Gogol Bordello, Gillian Welch
Saturday: the Arcade Fire, the Decemberists, Kings of Leon, the New Pornographers, the Black Keys, Fountains of Wayne, Sparklehorse, Roky Erickson & the Explosives, Andrew Bird, the Frames, Bojones
Sunday: Willie Nelson, the Roots, Damien Rice, Konono No. 1, Lily Allen, Amos Lee, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Grizzly Bear, the Coup, Avette Bros.
I don't think Rufus Wainwright, Ozomatli, CocoRosie, Girl Talk, tG/tB/tQ (long shot possibly), Air, EITS, or Tape n Tapes are out of the question. Not all of them would be on my wishlist, but speaking from a stylistic standpoint, I think they could all find an audience in Manchester.
^^^I'd dig ozomatli, girl talk & air. Not sure wainwright really fits, and cocorosie's one of those groups that i like to listen to, but wouldn't pay to see live. tapes n tapes are sort of meh in my opinion, but could certainly fit in that BE Your Own Pet kind of slot.
Explosions in the Sky would fit well. In fact, if Roo's smart they'll raid Austin this year and bring in Black Angels, I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness and Ghostland Observatory. Great live acts. All could definitely fit.

I think Rufus would fit just fine. I saw him in '04 when he was on a triple bill with Guster and Ben Folds. The latter two have played, so I see no reason why Rufus couldn't. At the same time, he's not an electrifying live artist...
*i like coconuts, you can break them open they smell like ladies lyin in the sun** *Hell I don't even know where I am** *for now I must sit here and ponder the yonder: The herbivores did well cause their food didn't never run** *We listen, if it feels good We shake** *You made a big impression for a girl of your size, Now I can't get by without you and your big brown eyes.**
