This is actually the first year i took a double take at Coachellas lineup just cause of the DJs... Dj Shadow, Infected Mushroom, Tiesto, and Paul Van Dyk on the same bill makes my mouth water... Nothing else really interests me at all, Willie Nelson would be cool i guess but eh...
God i love PVD... Bring on the haters but i love him...
This Bonnaroo line-up better kick my @ss, mainly Arcade Fire better be there. Otherwise, I might just skip the Roo for Coachella. I mean they have almost all the bands I want to see. I've got to see Arcade Fire in a festival atmosphere. If they're at Bonnaroo I'll be there. If not, then I may strongly consider not going. I'm so anxious to see what the Roo pulls out of their hats. IT'S KILLING ME!!!! ;D

The first thing i thought when i saw that poster was, "i would definatly see marky mark and the funky bunch" haha. If coachella werent accross the country, id go, but i like watching whole shows, so the short set times dont make up for the traveling exspenses.
Last year there were around 15 acts that cross overed with Bonnaroo. Looking at the acts, here are ones I see as being possible: Friday: Sonic Youth, DJ Shadow, Stephen Marley feat. Jr. Gong, Nickel Creek, Comedians of Comedy, Gogol Bordello, Gillian Welch
Saturday: the Arcade Fire, the Decemberists, Kings of Leon, the New Pornographers, the Black Keys, Fountains of Wayne, Sparklehorse, Roky Erickson & the Explosives, Andrew Bird, the Frames, Bojones
Sunday: Willie Nelson, the Roots, Damien Rice, Konono No. 1, Lily Allen, Amos Lee, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Grizzly Bear, the Coup, Avette Bros.
Single day passes are sold out already. So it looks like if I'm goin', I'm goin' for the whole sha-bang. Feb. 14th can't get here soon enough. I need to know what I'm doin this summer.

I dont think it destroys it at all...they are completely different...Coachella has a lot more of a commercial aspect to it, and it has lots of Electronic/Trance/Pop but then again, it has lots of good music as well..The reason i am going is cuz i was going to goto Vegoose but couldnt so we still got the cash. I wanna see Peeping Tom again, and the main thing is the chance to see Rage.. I dont think they should be compared though, im sure Bonnaroo is better :-) it's the festival that changed me life!

This year will be my 4th trip to Coachella and my first time at Bonnaroo. As much as I love going to Coachella (favorite weekend of the year) I am even more excited for Bonnaroo. They both have great line-ups but the festival itself and the atmosphere at Bonnaroo just sounds so much better than Coachella. Anyone who's been to both care to comment on this?

I have been to Coachella twice (2004, 2005) and the Roo going on three times (2004, 2006, 2007) and they are both great but drastically different. However, some of that might be because I would get a hotel at Coachella but camp for the Roo (well, RV which makes the heat much more bearable).
I have had a great time at both festivals, but basically since last year's Roo, I decided I would only go to Coachella if they had someone that I could not miss (and Rage is a close one this year, but more like an Underworld, Boards of Canada, or bands that don't tour ever type bands). Anyways, I generally like the bands better at Chella, and it is a beautiful place for a festival, with the mountains and palm trees all on a polo field. It is a well run festival and I have seen some great shows all in a row like Pixies into Radiohead into Kraftwerk, or Arcade Fire into DJ Krush into NIN into Roni Size into Prodigy.
Howeva, although this sounds cheesy, Bonnaroo is more of an experience. Alot of that has to do with the 24-hour nature of the festival. You have the late night shows and the fact that of the 80,000 people there, probably 75,000 are camping with you. At Coachella, I always stayed at a hotel and the music finished at 12 usually, so it was more like a day of seeing your favorite bands, go to hotel and sleep and then do it again the next day.
Whereas, Bonnaroo is basically get in on Thursday afternoon start screaming bonnarooooooo, set up tent, crack open beers, commence partying, go see some good Thursday night shows until 2 in the morning, and then wander around and start soaking it all in. And then you still have three more days of having a great time which can start at 12:00 pm and go til 6:00 am the next day or the next day or the next day. Also, the fact that the bands generally play full sets, with headliners playing for 2.5 to 4 hours, also sets it apart from Coachella. Finally, its all about the late nights. Being able to see bands play until the sun comes out is a special thing.
There is a different sort of electricity at the Roo, which takes it a step above Coachella in my opinion. Sorry for the long post. Sometimes I have problems getting to my point. You will definitely be enjoying yourself this year doing both festivals. The more that I think about it the more I want to do it as well, but that can get real pricey.

That's exactly as I picture Bonnaroo and why I am so excited. Thanks for the reply.

It's a bit frustrating because they don't make an announcement, but they have added a few names here and there... of Montreal and Kid Beyond are two that I've noticed now on the poster.

The thing that made me not want to go to Coachella was the fact that I could not camp with beer and I could not carry by beer outside the beer tent, is this true??

Beer is important to me.
Yes this is true if you are camping on site. A lot of people like myself camp off site to avoid this and we have found a great place about 5 minutes away which is much cheaper than onsite camping and there are no restrictions about alcohol. The campground is full of people going to Coachella so you still have the festival atmosphere there. Inside the festival there are designated beer gardens and you can only drink inside of them. This is a little frustrating but they are positioned well enough that you can still see bands from inside. Plus it gives you a chance to rest in the shade which is much needed in the desert heat. And like all rules there are ways around them.
