Yeah, I got my tickets to the ATP as soon as Sonic Youth was announced. I really have my fingers crossed for a Flaming Lips - Soft Bulletin performance, though that's not based on anything but wishful thinking.
^^I don't think they'll be booking anybody bigger than Sonic Youth for ATP. It's already amazingly affordable for the one day ATP ticket as it is, but Flaming Lips would practically have to do the show for free. I don't think they're THAT altruistic.

just reserved a stay in the hostel for me and my buddy. if your planning on doing the same do it now b4 it fills up. it doesn't require any deposit
Good thinking! Its probably the cheapest place to stay. We waited until the last min and had to book a very pricey hotel, the only benefit, it appeared many of the bands were in our hotel. Spoon was hanging out in the lobby, the National too, plus they had those fancy memory foam beds, damn. Just weird standing out on the balcony over the city and freeway trying to catch your morning smoke..
Added to Saturday: Fujiya & Miyagi Oxford Collapse Dan Deacon
Added to Sunday: Menomena Klaxons Deerhunter Craig Taborn's Junk Magic
I can't say I'm surprised, but I can say I'm excited. Menomena alone is worth the price of admission. Well maybe not, but I still want to see that band. Fucking A!
And there are still 15-20 bands TBA including two more ATP.
Just FYI, the Cowboy Junkies are performing The Trinity Sessions in England in October. Not sure if they'll be doing that anywhere else, but their touring schedule is open for that Friday at Pitchfork. So it might be end up looking like this for ATP night:
Sonic Youth- 'Daydream Nation' Cowboy Junkies- 'Trinity Sessions' Slint- 'Spiderland'

slint seems like a pretty good guess, but doesnt it seem likely they might try and throw in an artist from a different genre...like a hip-hop act or something (dont ask me who, i havent really thought this completely through).

I thought they already announced that one of the artist would be hip hop.
^^^Maybe on a podcast. I haven't read a thing to indicate that. But I wouldn't mind De La Soul doing 3 Feet High and Rising.
That said, there is a direction connection between artists Pitchfork hypes and artists that play the festival. Combine that with artists who have a history with ATP, and I'd say Shellac and Slint are probably the two most likely candidates for the other two slots. Who knows though. Could be anybody.

dont get me wrong, Shellac is great but i dont think they have that Daydream Nation or Spiderland album.
^^True. I'm just throwing their name out there cause they've done stuff with ATP extensively in the past and Pitchfork seems to be updating their every movement this year.
Personally I'd prefer a band I hadn't even thought of yet, but I'm also keeping in mind that the tix for ATP are relatively cheap so my expectations for who those other two acts might be are lowered accordingly.

Mentioning hip hop get me thinking. I guess I could see El-P doing Fantastic Damage, Dr. Octagon doing Dr. Octagonecologyst or maybe even Company Flow doing Funcrusher Plus (I would die for that).
The official lineup as of 4/20/07: Friday, July 13 [In collaboration with ATP] Sonic Youth (Daydream Nation) GZA/Genius (Liquid Swords) Slint (Spiderland) Saturday, July 14 Cat Power and Dirty Delta Blues Clipse Iron and Wine Girl Talk Grizzly Bear Battles Fujiya & Miyagi Oxford Collapse Dan Deacon Beach House Professor Murder Ken Vandermark's Powerhouse Sound Sunday, July 15 The New Pornographers Stephen Malkmus De La Soul Of Montreal Jamie Lidell Klaxons The Ponys Deerhunter Menomena Craig Taborn's Junk Magic
For those counting, that's 26 acts with 17 more promised. The Twilight Sad is listed as playing Saturday on their myspace page. Nomo is listed as Sunday on their myspace. The Field is apparently confirmed for one of the two days. Not sure which. So that leaves us with 15 acts to be confirmed.
All apologies to Bonnaroo which still is the biggest and best American festival out there, but this year's Pitchfork might just be the best festival lineup pound for pound. There hasn't been a misstep yet.
Yoko Ono, Califone and The Twilight Sad were added for Saturday. The Sea and Cake, Nomo and Fred Lonberg-Holm's Lightbox Orchestra were added for Sunday. 5 more left to be announced for Saturday, 7 for Sunday.
