I saw St. Vincent in Nashville on Saturday and she was fantastic as usual. I'm always left wanting more guitar from her because she's such a unique and magnetic soloist when she plays. A lot of the new songs sounded good in a live context. Pay Your Way in Pain and Down in particular. The encore was a little down tempo considering how energized the main set was. If she traded out "Live in the Dream" for Cruel or something similar, it might have landed better.
Comedian Ali Mccloskey opened for her, and Ali was not great. Really dirty, which isn't a big deal for me, but there were kids in the audience. And just not a lot of laughs, idk.
I've never seen a bad St. Vincent show though, and that streak continues.
I like St. Vincent's music a lot but I never enjoy her live as much as on record. Same with Tame Impala, actually.
What makes you say that? I'm thinking about buy a ticket to finally see her, but wasn't much of a fan of her latest album hm.
My only guess is that maybe the production is a more integral component to what I like about some music and it gets lost a bit in a live show. I'd still say get the ticket though - more objectively, the show was pretty good.

I saw Future Islands tonight for the first time in 5 years. They were great back then but the show tonight was absolutely amazing. My knees were hurting just watching Sam dance.

Marc Rebillet knows how to throw a fucking party, shame Bonnaroo got cancelled because that would've been one of those "can't believe you missed it" type shows

That's interesting - I saw her last night at Radio City, and I thought the stuff from the new record came off much more enjoyable live than it did when I listened to the recorded versions. Like, "...At the Holiday Party" didn't do much at all for me when I first listened to it, but I thought it was great in a live setting. Same with "My Baby Wants a Baby." I think the theatricality of the performances gave them a boost, for me. I dunno
Anyway, this is the fifth time I've seen St. Vincent, and it's wild how totally different every single show has been. Right now, I'd rank this second behind her set at Governors Ball 2014, and that may be just because I like her stuff from that era and her crazy information age prophet persona better than what she's got going on now. But last night's show was still really, really fucking good. I wasn't sure how into it I'd be after the rearrangement of "Digital Witness" she opened with, because it felt like there was less power behind it, but things escalated from there. I'd agree that the encore felt like a bit of a drop in energy from the last third of the main set, which was insane, but I still really dug it and it made for a great first indoor show since the delta variant kicked us all in the collective groin.
Do you want to dance while also thinking about all the ways you've failed as a human?
UPCOMING SHOWS 5/14 - Neil Young & Crazy Horse @ Forest Hills 6/8 and maybe 6/9 - Governors Ball 8/17 - King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard @ Forest Hills 9/4 - Pearl Jam @ MSG 9/7 - Pearl Jam @ Wells Fargo Center 9/11 - St. Vincent @ Brooklyn Paramount

Saw him on Tuesday, loved hearing throwbacks songs as Klavierwerke, CMYK, and Stop What You're Doing.
Garcia Peoples were pretty good! They do a lot of the 70s rock stuff that a lot of indie bands are really pursuing right now but with plenty of obvious stylistic Dead references to make it interesting. Plus, having 3 guitarists and 4 vocalists trading duties certainly allows the bands to mix things up in the setlist pretty easily. Basically no jamming though. :\
If you’re a country fan and you haven’t seen Flatland Cavalry live yet, make it a point to do so very soon. They’re such a tight live band and Cleto Cordero is an awesome frontman.
Also, Kolby Cooper and Pecos & the Rooftops threw down right before them.
Bahamas put on an amazing show. It was mostly just him and his guitar but he was singing both the lead and backing vocals perfectly. He also did a masterful job of handling some wild drunk people in the front row.
Charli might be the best show I've seen this year. Which is kinda funny cuz I was in the back and could barely see her so the show was like 90% lights and the backing track - her vocals didn't really add a ton to the experience. But definitely a show that's worth traveling and shelling out for imo.

Short and sweet concert (little longer than an hour, maybe 70 mins). She was hilarious in the stories and tidbits she told in between songs and sounded like an angel. Her voice, and the power she has over it, is incredible.

did she play with a violin/harp?
She played on guitar and was accompagned by a cellist (Patrick) who she tours with now. There were some bits of Trinity in the set, but more build towards what she can do with her voice rather than the instrumentation/electronics.

we were notttt in the back! There was a HUGE crowd behind us. Tbh might’ve been nice to actually be a little further back so we could see the screen where I’m sure it zoomed in a lot on the stage like it did for St Vinny. But the energy mid crowd where we were was fantastic. Definitely most fun I’ve had at a show in a long ass time
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

And now at Pinegrove waiting for them to start!
If you're not in the first eight rows you might as well be in the nosebleeds.

Dead & Co was a really cool show. They were pretty mellow, only getting really crunchy in like two or three jams, but Bob's voice sounded incredible and the mix was great. The only *hit* they played was Truckin, which of course they do because it says "Houston" in it. Drums was pretty industrial sounding, always a highlight. Definitely would like to see them at Roo again next year.
Pinegrove was really great. Was able to slide up near the front on the far right side--great view of the stage and good sound from there too.
I love Haw River Ballroom so much and this was the first time I've been there since 2019. They're not only vax only but also masks required at all times, and people were actually adhering to that. I didn't see a single unmasked person except for when someone would remove it for 10 seconds to sip their beer. Definitely made me feel alright about being inside a crowded venue like that.
Evan's voice is great live, and the crowd was full of folks singing along to most of the songs. They played two new/unreleased tracks, and although I left right before it ended (the venue is gorgeous but a SHIT show re: parking, and I wanted to beat the rush of hundreds of cars filing out onto a single-lane road in the boonies) and thus didn't hear Aphasia which I'm sure they closed with, but highlights were Orange, Dotted Line, and Rings. Evan gave a little intro speech to Orange about the despair that comes from the climate crisis which hit hard given my job and all (not that I wouldn't feel the despair anyway but of course it is heightened since it's what I work on 40 hrs/week), and also an explicit shoutout to the Dem Socialists of America lmao <3

Stellar production for the capacity of venues she's doing right now. Really nice to finally hear Galore live. She also did a new song, which was dope. The crowd was completely mesmerized by her aswell. Anddddd I met her after the show at the merch booth. What a sweet soul.
Does Jungle have a bad song? Not a single moment of last night's show did I think "now's a good time to grab a drink." It was just bop after bop the whole set. I know not everyone likes how strikingly similar their live shows are compared to the albums, but I really dig it. It's such a level of craftsmanship that not many bands can do. The only fault to their set was how early "Keep Moving" was. Thanks to work, we barely got in in time to hear that one.
