No interior defense? Rasheed Wallace, Antonio McDyess, Jason Maxiell, Theo Ratliff....How many teams have better interior defense than Detroit? I know I'm a Pistons fan, but not many imo. And they specifically do a good job against Dwight Howard. Their frontline is obviously old, but it still does a very good job.
In their 4 matchups this year Howard averaged 17 and 11 on 47% shooting. On the season he's 21, 14, 60%. And when Detroit swept them last year he only scored over 13 once.
First, Ratliff doesn't play, thus including him is irrelevant unless you want to talk about the impact of Jason Smith for the Sixers.
Also, while stats are all good and well about Dwight Howard, the fact is you neglected to mention that the Magic beat the Pistons twice this year. Largely because the piss poor Pistons interior defense chose to double team Dwight Howard allowing Hedo and Rashard have their way with the perimeter players.
Simple fact is the Pistons will NOT win the interior battle with the Magic, who have 3 guys over 6'10 capable of going 20/10 any given night. They can try and take away Howard all they want, but the other players for the Magic will beat them.
The Pistons will have to take advantage of their superiority on the perimeter if they hope to win. If you look at their two wins against the Magic this season, they came in games in which they dicated the pace on the perimeter and beat the Magic by exploiting their middling perimeter defense.
But if the Pistons come out shooting cold, things will get ugly really fast.
They were resting Ratliff against Philly because of the matchups. I guarantee you Theo sees major (20+) minutes against Orlando.
Piss poor interior defense. Please.
Orlando's first win against Detroit this year (their first in 10 tries) was a 2 point win at home thanks to a last second shot. Lewis and Turkoglu both shot 7/16...below their regular shooting percentage. Their second win was a wipeout where McDyess was the only Detroit starter who played more than 28 minutes. In that game Turkoglu shot 4-13, but Lewis did have a fluke 8-10 game. Your theory sounded nice, but that's not what happened.
Of course on offense will Detroit rely on their perimeter game. That's their strength, and with Howard in the middle there's no way around it. But you calling their interior defense piss poor is a joke.
It couldn't have ended much worse, but you still have to be pretty happy with the season. They showed a lot of heart turning around the season and if they just get a couple outside shooters they could be a real force. Andre Miller, Igoudala, and Dalembert is a nice core, and the young guys Young and Williams look good. Plus it's always nice to have a guy like Reggie Evans.

Last year Detroit gave up the 7th fewest points in the paint, and they led the league in blocks. I understand that using statistics is an imperfect way of proving a teams interior defense, but if they were really that piss poor I don't see how this could be the case.
ya i cant believe boston is having such a problem with them. the hawks arent horrible but they shouldnt be taking boston to 7 games. the celtics better start playing better on the road or i dont see how they can get past cleveland.

the c's have had extreme problems with younger atlthletic teams all year what i don't get is how all 3 home games they have averaged wins by over 20 points but on the road it's been 2 9 point games and a 3 point game, so strange. i love my boys but they're scaring me right now however no matter what it's been fun watching my boys this season. hopefully tony allen and eddie house play game 7 instead of downtown p.j. brown and alien sam cassell.
pretty embarrassing for the spurs...they usually start off strong, but lack in the third (which sometimes drags the rest of the game)...hopefully they rebound for game 2...and what about that a**-whoopin that atlanta recieved just a little while ago
for real.................they're not just winning, they are blowing out the defending champs. All we gotta do now is go to San Antonio and pull out one of those 2 games, then come back to the NOLA and end it in 5, and then we're set

i am as sick of the spurs as the next guy..
but if you think its going to be that easy...than as the bald dude from judas preist would say (YOUVE GOT ANOTHER THING COMIN)
there is a reason these guys are the best team of the last decade. playoff series are loong and a wise man once said (actually i think it may have been either pat riley or jeff van gundy) "playoffs series dont start until someone loses a home game."
that all being said...i agree....GO HORNETS! get some new blood in there.

peja really needs to step up if they are going to win the series.
CP3, Tyson Chandler and Xaviers' own David West cant do it all.
I've definitly been slacking on the NBA playoffs this year. I even watched atleast 75 games on ESPN/TNT this season. and then when it matters i blow it...
^^Peja's actually been fairly critical in their success this postseason, and I would argue Chandler, Paul and West haven't really been the reason why they beat the Mavs and why they're beating the Spurs. Because if it was just about the best players on each team, I think the Mavs and the Spurs would both win in five or six games because they feature starting lineups and star players who are better than anybody on New Orleans.
The funny thing about the Chris Paul hype is that it's clouded the main reason the Hornets beat the crap out of the Mavs and are well on their way to beating the Spurs: their bench is way better than the teams they've faced so far.
The Hornets have a rotation that has allowed them to rest Paul, West and Chandler at the same time in critical stretches of the game. The Spurs and Mavs believe in resting stars when the other team rests theirs, as a lot of teams in the NBA do, and Scott has fundamentally taken advantage of this by banking on the fact that his lineup of Pargo, Peterson, Wells, Peja & Armstrong can outshoot your spare parts.
This is also why the one game the Mavs won was when they shortened their rotation to 7 and didn't counter New Orleans substitutions. Cause what happens when New Orleans does that is they'll erase a 6 or 7 point deficit, then bring Paul, West and Chandler back into the game with a one or a two point lead and a five minute rest, and those guys will just ram the ball down your throats.
San Antonio has got to tighten their rotation and not counter sub if they have any hope of beating the Hornets.
the spurs are really digging themselves an early grave...their downfall always begins in the second half...i still have faith that they can pull it off...GO SPURS GO!!!
dudezer kinda hit the nail on the head, nice going there
Also, Peja is currently shooting 7 of 11 from 3 point range in the Spurs series. That ain't too shabby............ he hits threes at critical times as well. Last night had some great examples, when the Hornets came out with their early 3rd quarter lead, the Spurs made a slight comeback, cut the lead down to like 7 then Peja hit a big three to bring it back to 10 and then it was basically over from there.

Nice start for the Pistons.
In game one they held Howard to 12 points and 8 boards in 35 minutes. They dominated defensively, only giving up 30 second half points, helped by poor shooting from Orlando.
Game 2 was won by Detroit's front-court. While they were outscored by Orlando's front-court 54-45, they shot a combined 20-28 while Orlando went 19-43. Good thing they did so well because Detroit's backcourt shot 12-37. So much for Detroit needing to solely rely on their perimeter offense to win.
I'm sure Orlando is going to be jacked up at home, especially after losing their 9th straight playoff game to Detroit, so hopefully the Pistons can just keep it close for a while and have a chance at the end.
But how about game 1 in the other Eastern series?? Lebron 2-18 with 10 to's! Pierce 2-14, Allen goes scoreless. The Cavs shoot 30% and almost win?! Crazy

I turned on the Pistons game last night, and saw the score at 24-6 towards the end of the first half, and I thought I was seeing things. Pistons only scoring 6 while allowing 24?
No worries mates cause the Los Angles Lakers are taking it all this year. Kobe just wills he's team to victory everynight. Will have to say this has been one of the more interesting playoffs so far. Just hope Lebron and Co. can keep it 7 with Boston.

I must disagree with you. I don't think the Lakers are taking it all this year. Maybe next year, but I don't think it'll be this year.
now im not one to gloat, but a 97-74 lead by the spurs with a little over 4:30 in the 4th quarter to me seems like a done deal...two games down, two more to win...GO SPURS GO!!!

so yea, the Hornets couldnt pull out one game in San Antonio. We needed one, then I would have been happy. We simply cannot rely on winning every game at home and none away. If we move on to the next round, it won't continue. We need to be able to win on the road. Last night got ugly. I was a bit upset. We can't let this slip away after being up 2-0.
