I'd think it's the # of people in Chicago and NYC... Radio City sold out in seconds I think... I was locked out before I even got in And the Garden will sell out I'm sure, but probably not until alot closer... but I've got my tix! ;D
I would bet a lot of money that they can't sell out MSG on NYE....they're no where near big enough (like em or not) to sell that many tickets on a normal night...let alone on a night when there are a million other things to do in town...
Out of curiosity, have they EVER sold 20,000+ tickets for their own show anywhere?
EDIT: New info....which makes the show more likely to "sell out" but also proves my point about the band not being big enough to sell out the Garden....25% of the building's seats are NOT going to be used/sold for this concert. The 400 level will be closed off and dark for the show.
Not evey band sells out the Garden. I saw the Dixie Chicks (The gf wanted to see them and it was her b-day gift) and Bjork and they didn't sell it out. I believe when I saw R.E.M. there in June they didn't quite sell it out. Also, most of the concerts held there don't use the entire round(the seats behind the stage for most shows are closed off) I just checked ticketmaster and the seats for the 400 level are available and looks like some have been sold already. I truely think that MMJ themselves are not worried if it sales out, as long the fans and themselves are having a great time, that is all that counts...that and just to say they headlined at MSG on NYE would just be icing on their cake.
^ I have some friends going. I'd love to go but just have way too much going on this weekend that i'm trying to fit in already and am using up too much gas , otherwise i'd go for it.
too bad tiff
You are right about it being a busy weekend, but my buddy and I are driving down Sunday morning and back to Charlotte after the show...its gonna be a marathon of driving..but it'll be worth it.

quelle shock () but i pretty much agree with you, and im a fan and supporter of mmj! but yeah, most of the shows there have alot of the seats closed off...

They rarely sell the seats behind the stage/equipment for obvious reasons... but I still say you won't be able to buy a ticket at the Box Office on the day of, if not sooner. Between the wildly escalating word of mouth the band is getting, and the fact that there are about 4 or 5 MMJ songs in heavy rotation on WRXP here right now... well, we will see

back after the show? whew. I've done that before but not THAT long of a drive. I have to drive between charlotte/ raleigh and lake james in some sort of order and back that weekend so i dont think adding a trip to MB on sunday would be very ideal. My friends band in Raleigh released an album and their official album release show/ party is Sat night. They're called Buzzround and getting kinda big in Raleigh and surrounding.
I just checked ticketmaster and the seats for the 400 level are available and looks like some have been sold already.
I looked on ticketmaster before I posted that...check ticketmaster.com right now if you like...every section ASIDE from the 400's is on sale....and these are not seats behind the stage we're talking about...
But really...who cares...point is, my original thought that there was NO WAY this would sell out, has now been altered because there are less seats availible than it seems at first glace....either way....I'll be elsewhere...I'm already trying to figure out how I can get back the first 5 hours of my life that I gave this band.

Why don't you stop hanging around in MMJ threads. You must have better things to do, stop wasting your time. Just trying to help ;D

Out of curiosity, then--why do you keep posting in MMJ threads? Your opinions are welcome, of course, but it just seems if you feel the band is a waste of your time, why bother spending any more of your time badmouthing them? Seems like a further waste of your time and energy.

I'm sure when Miley Cyrus, Celine, or Nickleback come to town they sell out every available seat. ;D

sweetie--there are tons of us going, and quite a few who are going solo and meeting up with peeps at the show.
My NYE's have sucked major monkey tatas the last few years and I'm determined to make this one the best one ever.

Man, oh man. Last night solidified them as my favorite band. I only wish I had heard about them sooner so I could have been witnessing these shows all along. I was totally pumped to hear Remnants, I knew that one would rip live. I don't know if he's usually like this, but Jim was really into it last night, I saw him give some people in the front row high fives after certain songs and he was groovin' all over the stage. Here's the setlist, someone posted it on the MMJ forums. Man, I can't stop smiling! ;D

A week from today I will be hitting the road right about now to see them... all I ask is for some Cobra. Anything else will just be icing on the cake. But I would die if I witnessed a 24 minute full version of Cobra...

Cobra was one of the highlights of the night for me. Jim James and Co. brought down the house. I am making it my goal to be at Madison Square Garden on NYE.
P.S. Run Thru was THE highlight of the night for me.

Run Thru...that breakdown is probably just about the greatest thing to hear live. How was the crowd around you? I was shocked at how many people were sitting down and didn't seem into it at all! I was in the upper balcony though so I couldn't really see what the crowd looked like down below, hopefully they were goin nuts.

Great show last night. I was shocked at how many "Bros" were there. Our section was like a loud frat party with people being loud talking the entire time. I still had a great time.

by the way... I think just the fact that there was a conversation about how many people would be in attendance for a MMJ show goes completely against what they band believes in. I think what the band is more interested in is what percentage of the audience is utterly captivated. I may just be blindsided, but I feel like that's what Jim James and company wants most out of all of their shows. I'm a firm believer that this number can be rounded up to 100% the majority of the time
